That was fast. Faster than some recent marriages. Aretha Franklin called off her engagement to Willie Wilkerson yesterday because she says the pair are moving way too fast. They have been dating for what seems forever so I don't know what was moving too fast. I think what happened is either they decided they did not want to rock the boat of their relationship or Aretha started thinking about the wedding and dresses and reception and just did not want to deal with any of that. Been there done that.
I don't know much about this but what I don't get is - why say anything at all? They announced the engagement, leave it at that. Why say that it's off? If they just said 'we haven't set a date yet', that would work.

ReplyDeleteWas there ever a feud between Aretha and Etta James? I'm positing the possibly out-there theory that Aretha's might be stealing some of the thunder with Etta's posthumous accoladed with this tacky pr announcement.
