$5600 A Night For Beyonce & Jay-Z's Hospital Room
Have you ever seen a bill from a hospital and looked at the outrageous charges? When you see someone charging you $20 for one aspirin then you know you are getting gouged. So, when I saw that Beyonce and Jay-Z were only charged $800 a room for all 7 rooms of the executive suite per night at the hospital where Blue Ivy was born, I thought it was a pretty good deal. I have seen people get charged over $1000 a night for sharing a room at a hospital so when you get what you see here, $5600 does not seem that outrageous at all. I think it might because they are getting the no insurance special though. Just for kicks sometime get your bill from a hospital and look at the total at the bottom and then ask them for what the total would be if you were paying it directly. Watch it get cut by about half for many of the items.
Honestly, they should have been charged for more. All the trouble they have caused. "Moving hazardous material" my ass.
ReplyDeleteGAH! I'm so sick of hearing about this birth, as if it is the first time in human history a baby was born.
ReplyDeleteCan we please move on and ignore this family for a while till they do something in their chosen profession?
Swear I read that the wing was built with Beyonce in mind, or rather that Beyonce was going to be the first person to use it...
ReplyDeleteMust be nice (sigh).
That's alot less then was first reported.

ReplyDeleteThey paid one million dollars to the hospital wether it was a donation I don't know..also Beyonce was the first to use this new "private wing"......Ben Laden could have been in there and no one would have been the wiser.
ReplyDeleteSo no I don't think she had a natural child birth or any other kind but the surrogate did....the birth certificate had Beyonce 's name on it and that is that....No one will ever know for sure...
Hay-zeus Crease-toe! I scream bloody murder about the $200/month I pay for my family's health care benefits. That doesnt include the dog's annuals too. It is trully a Blessing for those who can afford healthcare without a benefits plan, anywhere in the modern world, especially in the United States. Go Jay, B and lil Blu!
ReplyDelete@Misch, I thought the $1M was for security, not necessarily to the hospital staff and what not..?
ReplyDeleteI read the million paid for the wing....
ReplyDeleteWas the bed even used? ;)
ReplyDeletePlease! How is this only $5600 a night?! I spent two nights in the hospital after I was hit by a car and the room and board bill was $21,000! And the room was SEMI private (a curtain between me and the person next to me)! WTF.
ReplyDeleteF-ck me! $21 000 US??? Holy shit.
ReplyDelete$5,600 sounds like a really bullsh*t number...i'm not buying it...most especially given that it's a private hospital in one of the most expensive cities in the country.
ReplyDeleteMy partner was in the hospital for 2 night with kidney stones, a total of $10,000 and this was a over 5 years ago...and his room was semi private...and didn't look anything like that...
ReplyDeleteActually, that might include the medicine too, but definitely not my doctors bills! :) Those are where they get you! Just to give you an idea--I remember specifically that x-raying EACH section of my body (pelvis, chest, spine, etc.) was $250. EACH PART! One dose of morphine was $15. Luckily insurance covers it, but it's insane when you see it itemized. And honestly, that was nothing. I had to have brain surgery the following month after the accident (at a different, more expensive hospital with better doctors) and my doctors bills ALONE were well over $300,000. And that's just doctors' fees!
ReplyDeleteHeck my fun afternoon with a kidney stone costs 10,000 before the 'insurance discount'.
ReplyDeleteGranted I had bloodwork, xrays and ct scans and fun drugs and only came home with a kidney stone to pass and not a baby...
My bill last month for 2 nights in the hospital w/pneumonia amounted to just over 12K.
ReplyDeleteI think we can safely say that just about everything involved in this "I'm having his baby" thing has been either an outright lie, a remodeled truth, an exaggeration either up or down the money scale, or bulls**t.
ReplyDeleteI wish the baby well, and hope it doesn't look like him.
I had an emergency appendectomy back in '08 & spent 3 days in the hospital, and I think that bill was around $30K, so I'd say they got off cheap for having a baby (well, somebody had a baby...).
ReplyDeleteWow- @Jolene Jolene, can I ask how much you had to pay out of the $300,000 for your brain surgery?
ReplyDeleteI've said it before and I'll say it again, I feel so blessed to live in Canada. My grandparents are all getting old are constantly having to go to the doctors- I'm glad they don't have to deal with the stress of having to pay/see if they can afford to go to the doctor.
Good lord, people! I am always in shock when I hear about American healthcare. How anyone could be against any kind of reform is just beyond me.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like there is an unusual flurry of hospital stories around this "birth," so we'll all believe she was actually there, giving birth. I think Beyonce and Jay-Z's PR machine is churning out these stories, frankly, followed by the denial, just like the "Beyonce gave birth naturally" BS - so that people are distracted from the truth: Beyonce didn't give birth. And, FYI: the baby was born on a FOUR: 01.07.2012 = 4 in Numerology. 1+7+2+0+1+2= 13, 1+3 = FOUR. Don't tell me they didn't hand pick the day to coincide with their beloved number ... It's much more of a true 4 than Jan. 4 would have been ...
ReplyDeleteOh - P.S. and if they had "picked" Jan. 4, everyone would have called BS much faster ... this way, they are getting away with the four, and most people won't realize it. Lying losers ...
ReplyDeletePS, I think Lainey owes you a call-out. She didn't see the 4 until after you had posted about it.
ReplyDeleteI too second the horror at the cost of medicine in America. I really admired Hilary Clinton for trying to sort it out, it is a shame she wasn't supported. Thank goodness for Medicare in Australia. My husband and I pay private health insurance, but every worker in Australia pays a percentage of their pay to Medicare, that way everyone is entitled to the best care in a public hospital, but when I had my hysterectomy I went private, which was wonderful.
I really thought the room would be more impressive.
ReplyDeleteI co-sign everything

What Maja said. Jesus.
ReplyDeleteI was in a class last night and we were discussing healthcare costs & the instructor he had a bill one time, for an overnight visit, (NOT life threatening) and his bill was over $35k.
ReplyDeleteInsurance companies are such a pain in the ass to deal with. I can see them cutting them a break if they paid cash and ESPECIALLY for that $1m donation/renovation/whatever for baby Blue.
My GAWD am I ever happy to be living in Canada!
ReplyDeleteFrom another article I read, quoting a hospital representative, they did not rent out a whole floor. As they said, no hospital would do this, since they need every bed available. Though employees had to hand in their cel phones (&/or cameras I guess) so as not to have any photos leaked to the public.
But hey, I wasn't there, so what do I know...
Jewels, that was the problem - they didn't rent out the whole floor, but at times their security did lock down the whole floor. I'm sure we can all speculate about why they did that.
ReplyDeleteMy dad was in the hospital for 10 days before he passed, and yes, he had a couple of surgeries and very intensive care, but still it was a shock to see his final bill clocking in at over $950,000. And as far as "informed consent," if they had told us he'd had a stroke, or made it clear just how bad things were, we would've let him go a lot sooner. It was an eye-opener when a doctor friend who worked at the the same hospital went over his chart later on and told us what had really gone on with him. :(
What - you are paying 200 dollars for insurance a month? For me alone, a healthy 20-something year old that has NEVER had any medical problems, the cost on my husbands government plain was over 400 bucks. A month. I thought it was a joke.
ReplyDelete*plan
ReplyDeleteJesus.
ReplyDeleteDo they actually expect people to pay them? And if they do, how are you meant to do so? Mortgage the house?
What did they need seven rooms for?
