Your Turn

I think this one is pretty obvious for today, considering the time of the year. New Year's resolutions. Maybe if you write them down here you will have a better chance of following through. I am going to try to lose 50 pounds this year. I know, I know, you love me big and cuddly and believe me there will still be plenty of big and cuddly. I just think I need to do something so I can hang around and not die a very early death. I am thinking of going on the all bacon diet. Anyway, I figure that one pound a week seems doable. I could cut back on a beer a day and probably hit that. What is your New Year's resolution?

  1. Similar to you, Enty, it's to lose 35 lbs. But that would put me back to my ideal, college weight.

I just got a head start with the 5-day Flu diet w00t! ;-)

  7. No more trying to lose weight, I just want to eat a lot better, do more cardio and take care of myself more. I also want to try to abstain from alcohol for a month, and that is a huge for me since I love me some Champagne lol

  8. 1/i stop to spread the rumors:i believe i wrote here last year or in the begining of the year a story about a friend cheating her future husband with his best friend. The best friend had his coming out this year(he was outed)and has some trouble now

it's so weird to say it here (and unless i think it's the one resolution that i will pass)

2/ i stop the nutella (or only a box per month)

  9. I mentioned it yesterday, but I am going to try to not get stressed out about how much I have to do and the limited time I have to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Mine is to keep it as real as possible this year. Reduce or eliminate time spent on things or relationships or habits that just aren't working for me.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm going to cut off all my moles with a pair of kitchen shears.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I just finally got a show horse this fall (something I've wanted for years) so my goal for 2012 is to enter a few shows and try to win a few cheques.

  17. Sue Ellen. Ditto. I have wasted so much energy stressing about What I can't get done in one day. Nobody else does that in my office! Plus I've noticed too many stress induced grey hairs! No more!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lose weight, save for a house/ child, find ways to cope with stress

  20. I did bikram yoga for years and then stopped. I started doing ashtanga yoga about 6 weeks ago and I love it and my teacher. so, one resolution is to continue with that practice at least 3 times a week, hopefully 4.

another resolution is to get my business off of the ground so that I can stop practicing law.

enty, wishing you the best year ever. you bring alot of joy and connection to us, your faithful following. xoxo!

  21. I gave up on weight loss resolutions 3 years ago. Since that time I've: not eaten Girl Scout Cookies, started to recycle and always park in isle 4 the farthest away from the store as I can get...therefore getting a little exercise and never losing my car in the parking lot. :) It's been great! Haven't figured out what I'll do this year, but know it won't be about weight loss!

  25. 1. Be more gracious & flexible in all aspects of my life.

    2. No borrowing money from work unless I absolutely need to.

    3. Not one dime will be charged to a credit card in the year 2012. If I don't have the cash to buy it, then I can't have it.

    4. Buy a vaporizer and get rid of my bong. This is essential to better lung/throat health.

    5. Get rid of all plastic storage and the microwave; replace with glass and toaster oven. I already have both now from xmas, so all I need to do is toss the plastic and microwave!

  26. Quit smoking. My quit date is 1/1/2012 and I have 100 pieces of Nicorette gum in my pantry. I *REALLY REALLY* want this to work - I've started to hate the act of smoking, yet I'm just so addicted.

    Wish me luck!

  27. @Tempestuous Grape - I am in agreement with Numbers 1 and 3. And Number 4 is hilarious!

  29. @dbfreak and @Lauren @everyone else trying to quit smoking!
Good luck! I know it is so hard, but I finally did it 4 years ago, October. I had smoked upwards of 2packs a day for 20 years. I started at 15 yrs old.
It's probally one of the hardest things I've done.
I know you can do it, just don't give up even if you cave one time!

  30. My resolution is that I am going to try to convince Enty to stop eating bacon and other processed meats that contain sodium nitrate - which have been proven to cause cancer. Love you Enty!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. To all CDANERS - May all your wishes come true, this I hope from the bottom of my heart!

My wish? To live in peace, stay away from dramatic people (blood suckers), and keep on fighting the carb addiction - it had truly worked for me this year, health wise.

And mostly, I wish to be always surrounded by good loving people. Is that too much to ask?

  32. For Enty and anyone else who wants to lose weight, this is the easiest plan ever:

For five days a week, eat as you normally would (assuming you already eat healthy; if not, you need to eat more fruit, vegetables, and lean meat). The other two days a week, and they have to be consecutive days (mine are Monday and Tuesday), you eat only 650 calories a day.

I've been using this plan for a few months now, and almost all the flab on my tummy is gone, as well as a lot of the flab on my thighs (which I couldn't lose no matter how much exercise I did). I lost 10 pounds (I'm down to 102), and feel great.

    ReplyDelete
  33. i'm doing a 365 photo project. at least that's te plan,lol.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Now that I'm gaining weight because of new medication that helps me absorb my food, I am going to start exercising. My only "goal" is to not have to buy larger clothes.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 1. Drink more.
    2. Smoke more.
    3. Smoke more weed.
    4. Eat whatever I want, whenever I want.

There is no point in making a resolution that you can't keep...I guarantee I will do all of the above.

    ReplyDelete
  36. My goal is to get pregnant. I'll finally be done with vet school this year, and my husband and I have decided it's time to start a family. I'll be 34 soon, so I hope it's not too late!

    ReplyDelete
  37. My resolutions for 2012 are pretty simple this year --

    Be a little kinder,

    laugh a little more,

    love a little more,

    stress a little less,

take better care of my health,

    and enjoy every moment.

  38. I am going to try like h*ll not to beat the sh*t out of myself every chance I get.

I am the most self-deprecating person ITRW. It is sick .. really. I need to stop that. Just hard not to be when certain segments of the populace don't have a clue what it is like out here. Chronically ill from meds to "make me better by keeping my transplant," lost everything last year and just feeling like an utter failure. Hard not to beat the crap out of myself.

Then there are the chants of "Let him die!" that tend to rattle around in my bean. Hard to be positive and uplifting with one's self when you know there are actually people out there who would wish you death because of your health concerns.

I would also like to lose a serious amount of weight .. but til the other stuff is straightened out .. that might be quite unrealistic.

Maybe I will just leave it at not murdering myself emotionally all the time. Leave that job to others .. or hold it to only weekends??

  39. good luck! cut out cheese and walk a mile and a half in a half an hour everyday, and I guarantee, you'll drop 5 lbs this week.

(oh, and say goodbye to booze)

    My NY res....to slay Goliath.

  40. Good luck to everyone looking to quit smoking cigarettes! I was fortunately able to do that earlier this year.

@Tempestuos Grape - I made the same decision today. (re: #4) I quit the cigarettes b/c of some lung stuff but I won't be giving up "the other" any time soon.

I've been going back and forth between using a vapor wand and special bowl piece (that goes on any standard glass bong) and using a lighter still. The only reason I was switching back and forth is b/c the vap wand can be tricky & make you feel "cheated" when you take a rip. Once you get used to it though - it is insanely worth it, for the high & the health benefits.

I use a particular wand I have found to be absolutely stellar so if you are interested in my opinion, feel free to shoot me an email. Just add @gmail.com to my handle.

  44. My resolution is to not get too angry at all the people who will be invading my gym next week thanks to their New Year's resolutions. I had the whole fricking pool to myself today, and it was glorious. Won't be getting that luxury for a few weeks...

Once upon a time I had a really abusive marriage which left me scarred and unable to trust men. I've been single for almost 7 years. So my resolution this year is to trust myself enough to start dating again...who knows maybe I'll even fall in love?

    ReplyDelete
  46. David's girl; wondering why you want to date again. (my disso was final this year). just ignore if too personal :)

  47. I think I might start smoking again, and maybe try to pack on a few pounds. I have these nice jeans that I'd like to not fit into anymore by the end of January.

But seriously. I don't really make resolutions per se but I usually have a project every year. This year, I am going to learn to sew my own clothes.

Oh and yoga. I am going to do more yoga.

For those of you who want to lose weight/ get in shape - start right now. Why wait 'til Sunday? Get up and do 20 squats right now! :D

  48. To those who want to quit smoking, I wish you all the best - I quit smoking six weeks ago, I was rushed to hospital, extreme chest pain - after a number of tests they determined not enough oxygen was getting to my heart. my doctor strongly recommended I quit smoking - My resolution this year is not to worry as much, walk more, laugh more, love more, smile more and lose twenty pounds -

  49. Be nicer to the hubs. Hopefully get pregnant, write more, and belly dance more.

To stockpile a months worth of food and water for myself and my kids. Also batteries, flashlights, etc etc
Basically turn one of my storage areas in my basement into a survival pack.

I'm not a 2012 loony but I feel something in the air..besides things such as earthquakes are expected in my area soon and seeing as our dependence on everyday shopping has the very real possibility of being cut off..even for a short period of time.. I want to ensure I'm not last in line or get turned away from the stores in case of emergency.

Also to love myself more and realize I have something to contribute to this weird world :)

To write more. I haven't kept up on my journals this year and I'd like to get back to that. I've kept one since I was 10!

Be kind to others always. This includes on the road!

To win the lottery - hey.. Why not?

  53. Alicia, that's a great idea. It's always good to be prepared. You never know when the next zombie apocalypse will happen.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Alicia, I totally agree and some might think me crazy, but I live in Los Angeles and am VERY prepared for an earthquake (or whatever). If it interests you there are some great books out there-start by going to Amazon and look up Patriots. One of the best books on survival, but also gives you lots of 'similar' reads which are fascinating!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I stopped smoking many years ago, it was probably one of the hardest things I had done and it was a process - it did not happen overnight. But after 6 failed attempts the 7th worked like a charm.
The fact that you all WANT to quit is huge, it's amazing what we can achieve when we really WANT to.

The next biggest challenge was loosing the weight I put on after I quit - I switched one bad habit for another so learn from my mistake. Chew lots of gum instead.

I love the idea of being independent and having a survival kit, you are taking charge of you and your families potential future survival Alicia, there is something to be proud of in that. Please don't care what anyone else thinks in terms of you being crazy. We should all want to get that pioneer spirit back and be able to fend for ourselves when we have to.

Thanks girltrav! I ended up ordering How To Survive the End of the World As We Know It by the same author as Patriots. Great lists! I also found his blog so no I have fodder for the weekend to daydream about my future stockpile!
