This Dog Is Living The Dream

Who among us has not wanted to just give in and be so lazy that we just lie down to do our eating.

  1. Reminds me of the menfolk laid out on the couch watching football & trying to eat & drink without actually sitting up.

  5. Love it!

I have a cat that lies down by the water bowl, skims her paw across the water, and sucks her paw. Kinda cute, except when you're eating, and then it's a bit offputting.

  8. Meh - sorry, my dog is waayyyy cuter! And I wouldn't leave her with Hugh Hefner for all the money in the world.

  9. My one dog does that sometimes. Most of the time if the other female is done eating (they are girls and have to do everything together) she grabs a big mouthful, comes into the living room and plops down, spits the mouthful out and then casually eats it while laying there.

  10. Thank you so much. I have to put my cat down next week and I've been in tears ever since I took her to the vet. Thank you for reminding me how love is about the fun things.

  11. Sis, I am so sorry to hear that. Anyone who has loved an animal has been where you are right now, and it sure does suck. But you're right: Always remember that you gave her a beautiful life.

  12. Sis, my heart goes out to you. My dog is nearing the end of her life, and I don't know how I'll go on without her.

  14. Sis: *hugs* Been there, had to do that, know how much it sucks. :-(

Momster: Jezebel doesn't just skim her paw--she gets right in there & splashes away, frequently stopping to sip water daintily off her paw. (In fact, the first time I laid eyes on her at the shelter as a half-grown kitten, she was playing w/the water in the big communal water bowl!) She's also been known to scoop up kibble in her paw & eat it that way, when she's not just knocking it out of the bowl onto the floor and eating it from there.

  16. ((Hugs)) to you, Sis. :(

My cat also enjoys eating from her paw or from the mat that's under her bowl, but to her nothing compares to drinking from the sink (either straight from the faucet or faucet-->paw-->mouth).

  17. Get your vet to give you oral morphine solution to give to your cat before you begin your journey to the vet's office. I do this now and it has made euthanasia easier, in that my pets have been so relaxed, blissed out, and calm. It's certainly easier on me knowing they are not feeling anxious etc.

  18. Black Magic has 2 extra "thumbs" on both front paws no less. He figured out how to use them as scoops for water and other foods and beverages and I have only seen him drink with his mouth once in 10 years of living with him. It IS cute to see him do this and visitors just delight watching him and want to take photos and videos of him but it's horrific watching him wander over to a rug when you know he has something sticky on his feet or have him jump up on you with his cold, wet feet.
I came home to a scene like that a few years ago, the cats opened up the cupboard where the dog food was kept and dragged it out onto the kitchen floor. I came home and cats and dog were sprawled out like beached whales on the kitchen floor in a circle around the bag of dog food. I went out and got childproof locks for the cupboards the next day.

  19. @Chilie, I wish I'd known about that when I put my dog down a year ago. I think she knew what was happening and trembled like a leaf. Which in turn caused me to sob uncontrollably, upsetting her further...oh boy, to have avoided that. :-( RIP Frangomint.
