Murder At Wal-Mart - Store Stays Open
Wal-Mart showed this past weekend that nothing will keep them from earning a buck, even the murder of a customer in their store. Over the weekend in a Wal-Mart in South Carolina, a woman was stabbed to death by her husband. Instead of getting everyone out of the store, Wal-Mart just roped off the section closest to where the woman was stabbed and let the police do their work while people continued to shop and look at the crime scene in the store. The store made the area closed as narrow as possible so people could still checkout smoothly and ring up those holiday purchases. Nothing like being asked credit or debit while looking at a pile of blood on the floor. Although the woman died en route to the hospital, would it surprise anyone if Wal-Mart had stayed open while police investigated and left the dead body there for all to see.
Isn't it the cops call to close or not the store?
ReplyDeleteAw, I wanted to read the WalMart story about the person mixing meth in the aisles.
ReplyDeleteShameless
ReplyDeleteDoesn't surprise me
ReplyDeleteHopefully they don't have any children.
ReplyDeleteNothing surprises me when it comes to that shithole.
ReplyDeleteLook for the next meme "Bodies of WalMart".
lol, i'm sorry, but i have to laugh at this. it's really the natural next step for a culture that thinks the kardashians need their own network and that michelle duggar miscarriage's should be named and have a public memorial. there is nothing that is beyond sharing. nothing is too personal. every thing is either a story that will make money, or in the way of a story that will make money.
ReplyDeleteDurrrh. Wal-Mart BAD. Refuses to inconvenience customers by closing store when it doesn't have to. How awful. Let's make up fictional scenarios in which horrible bad Wal-Mart is even more horrible and bad albeit fictionally. This story is an open invitation for stupid sanctimonious ignorant comments about Wal-Mart. The truth is that Wal-Mart is great for poor people who can't afford Whole Foods or even Safeway prices. It's a fucking godsend to poor people but unions don't like Wal-Mart so it must be denigrated. You think you hate Wal-Mart but it's just that this has been suggested to you over and over again in stories like this one.
ReplyDeletekeeping it classy.
ReplyDeleteOn the other side, if the store closed that would be a lot of employees sent home without pay.
ReplyDeleteI never, ever shop at Wal-Mart, simply based on their treatment of their employees, and the impossibility of buying anything not Made in China.
ReplyDeleteHey, Amartel - there would be fewer poor people if employers like Wal Mart paid them living wages!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with this at all. Wallmarts are huge, only a small part needed to be roped off.
ReplyDeleteOWS on the left coast didnt' mind disrupting ports and sending longshoreman home without pay. What a classy bunch.
MS Snarky must be a Target shopper, wehre they hate gays and get all of their designy stuff from China.
ReplyDelete@Armatel - it is a godsend to poor people who buy things there, not to the poor people who work there.
ReplyDeleteUnions don't like Wal Mart because they are absolutely ruthless in squashing any organization attempts, and they don't come close to paying a living wage. I don't like unions, but I think Wal Mart workers could use one.
I'm with Ms. Snarky, I don't shop there because of how awful they are to employees.
I saw a really low-budget documentary a while back (not Michael Moore), and a large percentage of Wal Mart employees are on food stamps and other state funded assistance programs, especially healthcare. Wal Mart actively encourages employees to join these programs because it pushes the cost of having employees back onto the state.
It was one of the more infuriating things I've seen, showed how perfectly they scam local tax bases, their employees, and how much money of our taxes goes to support Wal Mart employees, instead of Wal Mart supporting them.
Cleanup in aisle 4.
ReplyDelete(Yah, I'm sick.)
Wal-mart could always pay their employees for the lost time but they probably couldn't manage 15 employees on minimum wage for 6 hours with their billions.
ReplyDeleteIf the government took more into account that minimum wage DOES in NO way cover the real cost of living, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
ReplyDeleteThere are a whole lotta other employers in different industries, with a bigger margin profit than Wal-Mart, also paying strict minimum wage.
Walmart is great for people who want to buy cheap, disposable shit they don't need. They are horrible for the economy and for small businesses. They exploit workers and even take out "dead peasant" policies on their underpaid employees, while offering them zero benefits. I contend Walmart is bad for poor people. And the fact that they can't even close down for an hour or two after someone gets brutally murdered is just incredible, but typical of this POS, greed-infested parasite of a company. Rot in hell, Walmart.
ReplyDeleteI shop at Wal-Mart all the time. And since the one near me remodeled and added a huge grocery section, I buy lots of my food items there as well. Maybe the ones posting they hate Wal-Mart have more money I do, but I appreciate the fact that I can get items cheaper at Wal-Mart than I can at other stores. If I can get something that sells for $2.50 at Wal-Mart, versus $4.50 elsewhere, I'm going to choose Wal-Mart every time. And as far as not closing the store, I don't see any blood on the floor, and there is obviously no body (or chalk outlines), so why inconvenience the shoppers who are probably trying to get their Christmas shopping done?
ReplyDeleteI cannot understand all the hate WalMart gets. They are no different from any other retailer. I worked at one for two years, you got raises, offered medical for parttimers after a year, 401k, stock options, store discount. I had applied at other stores too, their wages all start around minimum wage. Walmart's salaries are also based on what your job is in the store. I started at more than the minimum. Granted it's not a real living wage, but neither are the other stores. Why should Walmart close in the middle of the busiest season of the year? They didn't kill the woman, it was roped off, and as others said it's the police dept call too, and workers would not get paid
ReplyDeleteMy mom is 78 and works at Walmart (no, not as a greeter). She was hired at age 72 after the Mervyn's closed. She had worked there about 20 years.
ReplyDeleteShe got a higher starting wage at Walmart, she was promoted and got other raises based on her promotion and merit. She gets an employee discount.
They don't hand it to you on a platter but if you have a good work ethic you can do fine as a worker at Walmart.
And, based on her stories, if they had tried to close the Walmart during the Xmas season, there would have been riots outside.
I think the meth story is better.
ReplyDeleteYou think this is bad, what about the molesters in Walmart! Wasn't there some guy who raped a little girl at a Walmart? The crowd caught him or something.
I don't like shopping at Walmart because looking at the people who shop there makes me too sad.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is the hand-to-heart truth.
Yah .. I am officially Poor as Sh*t now, and I would NEVER think Walmart is a "god send" or - for that matter - shop there. Rather, I see Walmart for what it is. A conglomerate that destroyed mom-and-pop stores thereby killing jobs and helping make sure prices stay higher than they could be if those same shops still had any buying power.
ReplyDeleteWhen that isn't enough, I like to recall when Walmart's original "Made in America" meme was exposed to be bullshit and the fact damn near NOTHING in that was in that store was American made. Walmart largest importer of Chinese goods, you don't say! No! Surely not!
When that isn't enough, I like to think about how - though a huge conglomerate with money to literally wipe there asses with - they chose not to properly light nor camera their expansive parking lots, leading to countless rapes, kidnappings and murders of both their valued customers and employees.
Now I guess I can add these two lovely stories to my "think list" of joyful stories about the Satan of big box stores.
Yeah, there's no way Wally World would pay its wage slaves if they had to send them home, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise (particularly since this week's hours are probably their Xmas money).
ReplyDeleteI hate Walmart, too, and for the same reasons, but I feel for those store employees and wouldn't want them to lose wages right before the holidays.
The Wal-Mart meth cooking story comes straight out of Oklahoma. God, sometimes it SUCKS to live in a state with stupid people.
ReplyDeleteI won't dip into the WalMart debate but will add a 'funny' story about it. I work with my mom, she's a Sr. VP of our company. We moved floors and had an awesome new office. She turned it down so she wouldn't have to look at Wal-Mart every day. So I got it. I said I didn't want to look at it every day either so my option was an office with no window. So I took the office with the Wal-Mart view. NOW she complains at how much bigger my office is than hers and the kicker is... my back is to the window so I don't even have to look at Wal-Mart! :-)
Walmart pays about the same wages and offers about the same benefits as other bottom tier places. I really dont think people do any better at fast food chains or mini marts.
ReplyDeleteI also want to point out that there is a big difference between a woman being carried out of the store alive and one laying there dead waiting for the meat wagon. People leave the store in ambulances all the time. I admit they havent been stabbed but her being alive when she left makes a big difference in my book. Why should they close the store if the woman and her husband have been removed?
I went to Wal-Mart for the third time in my life last weekend. Great deal on the Christmas lights I needed but a depressing experience in general. We're digging our own collective grave with those places.
ReplyDeleteSue Ellen said: "I don't like shopping at Walmart because looking at the people who shop there makes me too sad."
ReplyDeleteHey! *I* shop there & I'm hawt!
I shop weekly at Costco & Walmart. I'll take the attitude & friendliness of both the employees AND the shoppers at Walmart anyday. Costco shoppers think their shit don't stink. Parking lot full of Escalades & BMrs, but they check their social grace at the door.
And heads up readers....EVERYTHING is made in China. I work for a mammoth international manufacturer. What I know is this:
People bitch about Chinese products, but don't want to pay for European or North American made. That shit's 30-40% cheaper when manufactured in China.
Even products that *seem* or are labelled as being "Product of USA", are most likely made in Asia, packaged in USA.
Minimum wage/treating the employees badly is no argument for hating a company. All retail pays badly. What is say, Aritzia/The Gap's (etc) excuse? They pay minimum wage, but charge $100 for a cheap shirt, $100-$300 for jeans. All made in China. At least Walmart passes on the savings & keeps it real.
I live in Canada & I CAN"T EFFING WAIT FOR TARGET to come to town! Whoohoo!
What does that mean, looking at the people who shop at Walmart makes you sad? What do they look like? Like me - average weight, reasonably attractive, advanced degree, professional job? Most of the people I see at Walmart look like the reader photos Enty is posting.
ReplyDeleteAnd how many of you who won't shop Walmart will shop Home Depot or Lowes? Don't they kill off the local merchants too? How about downloading your books at Amazon? Movies from Netflix? Sorry, Walmart provides a service to a hell of a lot of people and they employ a hell of a lot of people. No one makes them work there. I'm sure the McDonalds (who killed the local burger shop) is hiring.
Just because almost everybody nice and normal does a thing doesn't mean we should pretend it doesn't suck...
ReplyDeleteOMG spare me the reverse sanctimonious speech about how Walmart is a godsend to poor people, etc. I would be so ashamed to reveal that my sensibilites are more wounded by the potential presence of a 'sanctimonious' speech than admitting to being callously inured to craven brutality in a retail store. I fart in your general direction.
ReplyDeleteMissPoppyPants: What does that even mean? Fart...Direction, I got that. Everything else though, wha?
ReplyDeleteI stay away from Walmart because I'm afraid I'll get shot. I live in Oakland, and it is very scary there.
ReplyDeleteEeek, I know where this is! This lady was working at a bank inside Walmart, when this happened. Apparently, the cops asked Walmart officials if they wanted to shut down, but they declined to close the entire store. Despite the fact that multiple customers/employees witnessed it. :(
ReplyDeleteOn a separate non-murder related note, I used to live in a county in SC where there were "blue laws". Walmart participated in this and so before a certain time on Sunday, all the "non-essential" items were roped off. You could only shop for groceries. So stupid!
Mygeorgie : I think the rest of it means the fart backed up and came out the keyboard because that post is a load of merde.
ReplyDelete@ amh-producer.
ReplyDeleteI was born and raised in the State of Oklahoma but now live in Springfield Ill. Most of my family still live and work in Oklahoma and they are far from stupid. There are stupid people ALL over the world and it seems you are one of those people yourself. Stop making snap judgements and hateful comments. And your little story was neither funny or entertaining.
