Get Well Soon Lauren Scruggs

Lauren Scruggs is a blogger. She runs the fashion site LOLO and she does a great job with the site. She also is a model and has worked on television shows like Gossip Girl. In addition to both those things she is just an amazing person. She was involved in a very serious accident on Saturday while doing a report on Christmas lights around Texas. She climbed out of the plane and somehow walked into one of the propellers. The result of the accident is that doctors ended up amputating her left hand and she suffered severe head and shoulder injuries. She is a very tough person and I know she will make it through this ok, and I want her to know my thoughts and prayers are with her.

  1. I feel very sorry for the girl, but good lord! How do you walk into spinning plane propellers?

  4. Ever since that horrific episode of ER, that has been one of my worst fears. I can't believe it happened to her in real life. That poor woman. :(

  5. ABC news says:

"While it was dark out, investigators aren't sure why Scruggs didn't see the propeller. Her family thinks she may have turned back to thank the pilot when she walked right into it...It sounds like this is a combination of a bad procedure by the pilot and the passenger not properly realizing her proximity,"

It cut her face too, and there may be some brain injuries. Poor girl, I wish her the best.

  9. This has me thinking, in a very sad vein.

The thing about accidents is, they often make NO sense. Like, everyone is left saying "how could that possibly have happened?" A friend of mine drowned in October in Lake Michigan, and his body wasn't found for a month. The thing is, everything about the accident was stupid and utterly unlike him. Out in a canoe in a storm, no life jacket, there were ways for him to get to shore so why didn't he, on and on.

Sometimes people just get disoriented or their brains turn off for a second and *wham*, it happens.

What's really scary too is thinking HOW many times we are all almost in terrible accidents, but are saved by chance.

Okay, I need more coffee now, I'm really sad.

  13. Awful, awful story. :-( Best wishes to her.

Figgy is right, it's easy to be a "Monday morning quarterback". Sometimes human beings do things without thinking ... I know I do, all the time.

  15. Figgy my condolences on your loss. And I do hope Laura fully recovers. Something about the way Enty decribed her tells me she will.

  16. I don't know who she is, but am also sending best wishes her way. Hopefully this story will be a cautionary tale to everyone in the future who is riding in small planes or helicopters: You can get seriously hurt if you are not careful because it's not like you are on a jumbo jet and a great distance from moving parts. Spinning blades can do serious damage.

  20. This is so sad....but I have to agree. How do you walk into a plane propeller...and why on earth was she allowed out of the plane before it was completely shut down?

Anyway, I hope she gets well quickly.

  21. I read that she may have stepped out to change seats, but the props should have been stopped. She lives not far from me here in Plano.

  22. OMG, I swear to GOD I just heard this:

I was in the kitchen cooking with the news on in the other room and her parents were being interviewed and her mother said, "She will SOAR and she will be PROPELLED".

  24. I heard this story this morning on the news. I wish her the best. I don't understand why the propeller was still going, but that doesn't really matter. What matters is that she has successful recovery s possible.

  25. Dear god! My thoughts are with her. What a horror. I am with Mooshki .. since that ER episode .. I am scared to death of props! Thank heavens I have only been around two small prop planes and one helicopter in that time frame and hope like hell not to be around any more for the rest of my life.
