Gary Dourdan Faces Foreclosure

Another reason to not do drugs is that you end up spending your money on things you put up your nose and not in the place you live. According to TMZ, Gary Dourdan faces foreclosure on his Venice Beach house he bought back in 2004. Back then, times were good for Gary and he probably believed he would have no problems paying off his nearly $1M mortgage. Well, some really bad decisions and a lack of work have left him owing his bank over $60K and now they want his house.

  1. He used to be a beautiful man. I always liked him on CSI. I sincerely hope he pulls it together.

Not surprised. I wish he'd get it together.

  4. I was thinking about him the other day, he had the most gorgeous dreamy eyes.

Why do these rich people have mortgages? Why not just pay it off completely when you are buying it?

  6. At the risk of sounding cold, I have to say I do not feel in the least bit sympathetic to Mr. Dourdan. He had talent, good looks and a possibly fine future ahead.
Did he really need to buy a 1 mil house? Who made him recklessly blow through his money on drugs?

He made his own bad decisions and losing your house is just one of many he created for himself.
    A shame really.

So messed up. He was absolutely gorgeous, with a job most actors would have killed for. He's pretty talented, too. That final scene in Season 7 still shocks me.

Had he kept his nose clean, he would still be on CSI, collecting six-figure checks.

One can only hope he gets his act together.

  9. He should not have left CSI.

  10. Sad for him - he was always my favorite back when I used to watch CSI.

@Sorka8 - I know where you are coming from because it was own bad decisions that brought him to this point. Just wanted to point out that $1M for a house in Venice Beach is hardly going over the top. I'm guessing he has like a 3BR/2bath deal or something. Real estate is pricey down there - AND he bought it in 2004 so it was likely wildly overpriced as well...

  11. Biteme, he didn't leave because he wanted to, they booted him off due to his drug problem :(

Maybe they don't pay off their mortgages for tax deduction purposes? I've always wondered about that too.

  14. Buying at the top of the obvious (sorry, but it was) housing bubble is not a mitigating circumstance. I used to love that show but it's really gotten boring. They skewered the whole concept perfectly in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." Anyway, no one could replace William Petersen although Lawrence Fishburne was okay. This guy lucked into an easy paycheck and blew it all.

  15. JoElla, what was the ending?

    Used to watch CSI.

  16. Sorka8, you not only risked sounding cold, you actually sounded cold.

the guy has a bad drug habit and has made bad choices because of that.

he is a very talented actor and its just sad. he hardly lucked into the role, he deserved the role he played and only got canned because of his drug habit.

to contrast, william peterson made good choices and is now wealthy because of the show.

  17. I feel bad for him and anyone in this position. Obviously he didn't have it all and was hurting inside, or else he wouldn't have turned to drugs. It's hard to look at that pic - he was a beautiful man before the drugs took their toll.

  18. I'm with y'all no sympathy here. CSI is running for 12 years now. He could of had one job and retired and done all the coke he wanted if he had just stuck it out with CSI and kept things under control. Who knew that George Eads would be the only orignal cast member left from the start (jorja fox left and came back)I don't count her anymore.

He was fired, he didn't quit. You play, you pay.

He really was gorgeous in his prime.

F' him. He beat up his girlfreind too.

  19. Sylvia, they did this really good 'he got roofied and woke up with a dead stripper' story and while trying to clear him, a dirty highplaced cop was thrown into the mix.. only the viewers saw who it was, and they cleared Gary's character.. they all went out for a celebitory breakfast, and one by one looked back to him sitting at the table and said goodbye (at this point we knew he was leaving..)

He walks out with Grisham and they say goodbye, and he gets into his mustange, Grisham walks away, Gary sits there for a moment (the ole reflection look) and the dirty cop walks up to his mustang and shoots him point blank in the head!

The cop was a big mucky muck and very high up, and like I said, everyone knew he was leaving, but NOBODY saw that coming! I dropped a huge loud Fbomb that made my kids come running out to see what happened LOL!

  20. I had no idea he was going to get canned so when I saw that episode it was quite traumatic. I liked his character. I think the show started going downhill after he left and I stopped watching altogether when the Grisham character left.
I don't have a lot of patience for people who do drugs and become addicts but firing someone because they have an addiction is pretty bad, like that's really going to help anything?

  21. The Black Cat, I remember telling my kids to be quiet and let me absorb what I just saw.. (like I said I dropped a big ole very loud F Bomb)

I don't think his drug problem was the only reason why they let him go, he was in some other trouble as well at the time, and they finally had enough.

And like you, I haven't really watched after Grisham left.

  22. It was my understanding that William Peterson (who produced and still does) had him quietly in and out of rehab over the years. It isn't like they didn't try and get him help. Incidentally, he and Marge had done an series together before this, but it didn't get picked up. I was under the impression she helped him get CSI.

  23. I watch CSI still, and Ted Danson is actually really spectacular. They made him a family man who grew up a hippie, he's just very different from any of the other boss characters they've shown before. It's still enjoyable :)

    What a waste.

  24. "the guy had a bad drug habit and has made bad choices because of that."

The bad choice was doing the drugs. That was his choice originally and it was his choice to keep on and not kick the demon addiction. I read that the show tried to help him kick but he wasn't having it.

And, yes, he did luck into his role. Getting a good role in a show that gets (1) picked up and (2) wildly popular is really good luck! Something most people in show biz, even good lookin' ones, don't get to experience.

He's def got a unique look. I've never seen him in anything other than CSI so don't know if he can act but, hey, he does have a track record and a shot at paying work if he can straighten himself out. Hope he does.

  25. What's additionally sad is if it's a $1 million mortgage he's already poured a heck of a lot of money into it to owe "only" $60K at this point -- and he's still set to lose it. He could have paid that off a long time ago.

I think I might have said the same thing if I was watching that ending lolol

  28. I don't feel sorry for him at all! He is a class A douch bag. I use to work for a concierge service that he belonged to. He would call and just harass us. He was the typical, "do you know who I am?" He would get thrown out of clubs in Vegas and NYC and want a concierge to get him back in! We lost many contracts because of him. Karma is a b*tch.

  29. Drug addiction and obesity...the two things left for everyone to sit in JUDGEMENT and point fingers.

  32. Not to be all judgy, but judgment is spelled without the e... So now it's addiction, obesity, and SPELLING!

  33. I also was just thinking about Gary because 1) it was his birthday yesterday (thanks, Dlisted), and 2) from far away, Brad Pitt looked like him in that recent NYT video.

I've been watching CSI for a long time. I've always enjoyed its sense of humor. The funny little bits make it so much more enjoyable to watch. And not campy humor, like Caruso. I don't watch Miami or NYC. I love Brass and Hodges -- and Doc and David, too.

I liked Grissom, but I was perfectly willing to give Laurence Fishburne a chance. I think the writers perhaps played too much to his dramatic background, and the show got bogged down in his character's baggage and story line. When I heard Ted Danson was coming on, I thought they were nuts. But dammit, he and his character are great!

And I don't understand why Sara came back. I can understand why Jorja would come back (money!), but it makes NO sense for Sara to come back to the Vegas crime lab, given that she left because she just couldn't handle it anymore. Why is she perfectly fine with doing the job now?

RE: spelling... Judgment is the preferred spelling for those who edit using AP style, but judgement is listed as an acceptable alternative in the dictionary.

  38. Linnea, I don't want to be judgy either, but the number is spelled with a "u," as in "four." Mmmmmmkay? :-)

  39. Whether you believe it's sad or what he deserves, it does illustrate how a drug habit can take over and ruin your life.

And I agree with Trashtalker, I thought CSI was crazy for hiring Ted Danson, too, (I didn't even like Cheers) but he has injected a great new energy to the show. Love his character, just what the show needed.

  40. I was just watching Thanksgiving episodes of old sitcoms over the holiday. I watched all of the Different World ones and forgot he was on it for awhile! He was HOT, I mean wow.

Venice is where my life went downhill because of drugs, so he's probably better off not anywhere from the boardwalk to Lincoln.
