This movie set gay acceptance back 20 years when it came out.

  2. Believe it or not, I went to see Deliverance with my Father(!!). When that scene was playing, I sat next to my Dad and did not move a muscle. I was mortified!!! We never discussed that scene afterwards -- and I never went alone with him to see another movie!

  3. PS-- I was 14 years old. I don't think I totally understood what happened to Beatty's character.

  4. Ah, Deliverance. Where the phrase, "squeal like a pig" gained a new meaning. It traumatized me, too.

    RIP, Mr. McKinney.

  5. Oh, lord, that's awful, Penelope! I thought it was bad enough when I saw Leaving Las Vegas with my dad, but at least I was an adult!

  6. I've never seen Deliverance. I used to live in rural South Carolina, so that's close enough, right?

I was just checking out his IMDb page and he did quite a bit of work in his later years.

  7. weird how poor Ned was known for that line, his whole life, yet I never knew who Bill was.

There are two movies that really rock my 'energy' to the core and make me wanna scrub down or scream. Deliverance is one, Paris Trout the other.

Gotta go set up my Christmas tree now & forget anyone mentioned 'Deliverance'.

  8. I met Bill a few times. Nice guy, but I couldn't past that scene in Deliverance (and the fact he was wearing a tank top and short, short work out shorts when I met him).

  9. that was a great movie and probably that entire scene the most haunting I've ever watched, ever in a movie. that movie also showed how talented burt reynolds was. his career could have been much different if he hadn't made such bad choices after deliverance.

RIP Mr. McKinney, you were very brave to do that scene.

  10. It was the scene that best illustrated the face that you cannot un-see stuff. I can't imagine how much it saved me from!
