Candace Bushnell Getting Divorced

On Friday, Sex And The City author Candace Bushnell, filed divorce papers from her husband of nine years Charles Askegard. Apparently the two grew apart after he left the New York City Ballet and started working on his own project. He would end up staying at the city late at night while Candace was in their country home alone. Yeah, sounds like to me that one of them probably did something with someone which made the other a little upset. Candace wished him the best in her statement but it was not a very friendly statement she released to the press at all. So, I am guessing if someone did do something outside the marriage it was probably him. When you can feel the anger coming through a press release, then you can imagine what the reality was like.

"We had some wonderful times in our nine-year marriage, and I still care about Charles as a person. I respect his desire to pursue his own happiness and hope that we will continue to be friends in the future."

  1. Yeah, he did something alright: "pursuing his own happiness", means that self-centered bastard cheated on me.

Hope she has an iron clad pre-nup. As a ballerina, I don't think he was making millions. And she is worth millions after her books and tv deals.

Ah, the original Carey Bradshaw dumping and getting on with her life.

Where is Mr. Big when you need him?

  2. That fucking bitch needs to be banned from ever publishing again. "Trading Up" was the worst piece of shit excuse for a book I've ever had the misfortune of reading. Wanted me to start a bonfire with her as kindling. She and that Twilight bitch are doing the written word no favors.

Fuck this bitch makes me hulk the fuck out.

Hope he takes her for everything.

  3. Vicki, I agree 100% but take it down a few. On another note, can someone tell me why the volturi want the baby. I have never read twilight, but that just intrigues me for some reason.

  4. Vicki, but how do you really feel? LOL

  5. Yes Vicki, tell us how you really feel! Is my gaydar pinging just because of the ballet comment??

  6. OMG, Vicki, I totally agree. Bushnell's books are made of suck. She is the worst writer ever. How this bitch got a book deal is beyond my comprehension. Of course, SJP and co. made Sex and the City into the phenomenon that it is. I wonder if they'll put out a film a few years down the road with Carrie getting her divorce on.

  7. She got a book deal the same way Lindsay Lohan continues getting "work."

Trading Up was so bad it actually made me angry! I love Sex and the City, the show.

I'm sure they'll die of old age before that happens, Susan.

My landlady used to work with her in NYC and she's a huge vapid bitch. Big surprise.

    Team Charles!

  9. Yeah, her writing is atrocious. Love the series too though.
That statement was quite the burn!

  10. So was it another woman...or a man...

  11. Vicki, don't hold back - tell us how you really feel!

I never thought this marriage was going to make it for the long haul. Not that many do under the best of circumstances.

  12. In her defense I should point out that, when S&TC was a column, she was quite readable. The problem is that when you expand a character or situation from one page to five hundred pages you need a lot more ability.

  13. I remember something about how her wedding was a freebie, like she latched onto the back of someone else's wedding...? Yeeeaah, the details are fuzzy, but it was funny at the time.

I thought Mikael Barishnykov was the world's only straight ballet dancer.

  14. haven't read her book. but i read (or tried to read) 'bonfire of the vanities'. nothing could be worse than that.

anywhoo...yes, sounds like her husband found comfort outside the marriage.

  15. @Susan, The ballerina is not the real Carrie's Mr. Big. Candace Bushnell did not marry the man Mr. Big was modeled after (Ron Galotti), they went their separate ways.

  16. lol (and a wee bit of side-eye) at the hatred towards this complete stranger. it makes me want to brew some of you some chamomile tea.

  17. I haven't read any of her books, but I hate(d) Sex and the City. It was so depressing. The women were so desperate.

  18. Well, I don't hate her. Her books may not be as interesting as the show they inspired, but I don't see why she's provoking all this vitriol. Jeez.

  19. Hmmmm ... He gives off a gay vibe. On a side note, I met her at a book signing and she nice, but a bit of a lushie ...

  20. I say save the hatred for the Kardashians. Candace Bushnell may be a crappy writer but there are a lot of others out there that actually earned the repulsion.

  21. I read two of her books, after I finished the series and was SOOOO disappointed! Agree that they are not very good and how often does it happen that the translation on screen is BETTER?

And I thought the same as Enty, when I read her statement.

  22. Amen to the Bushnell writing bashers! Did anyone read Sex and the City? My God! She went from first to third person narrative within one paragraph. I never who the hell Carrie/I was talking about. Where was her editor? Drunk? God that was such a hot mess. I teach fourth graders who write better.

  23. Vicki, don't listen to them - I love a good over-the-top rant!!! ♥
