BuzzFoto Blind Item
Once a year, every year since her first spouse died, this actress remembers the day of his death by donating her entire wardrobe to charity (because he was dedicated to many good causes). After that, she spends the following few weeks buying herself new clothing. It helps give her something to do and to think about new beginnings.
so sad... Yet so self serving at the same time! "I give all to the less fortunate... Yeah, this means I'm going shopping!"

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what to think about this one.. yet. Maybe it's the thought that counts and someone does reap benefits.
ReplyDeleteBetty White and why not?
ReplyDeleteMarcia Cross?
ReplyDeleteBette Midler?
ReplyDeleteBo Derek?
ReplyDeleteAnd I am right with you @Rita. My first thought was. A. Tax write off on the value of the clothes/donation. B. Free shopping spree.
Nothing wrong with a little retail therapy!
ReplyDeleteSorry but our hero Betty White first came to mind. She loved Allen Ludden. I had no idea she was also married two other times. Betty you little minx!
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna go with Joan Rivers, just feels right to me
ReplyDelete^I love the Joan Rivers guess!!! Although would not consider her an actress, more like an entertainer.
ReplyDeleteBetty White has often stated on red carpets that what she's wearing is very old. Simply based on this, she couldn't be the one giving up all her wardrobe.
I don't see how it's not a good thing. Charities are happy and it helps the economy. If she can pay, she might as well. At least she pays for her clothes. Lilo, I'm looking at you.
ReplyDeleteThe use of first spouse implies to me that the actress remarried. If thats the case then most of the people mentioned wouldn't qualify.
ReplyDeleteAren't most donations given by celebs given for the tax write offs.
ReplyDeleteNot very humane but I always think of that when I hear about donations made by the very rich.
The main decision is which foundation/charity, etc to give it to.
I'm a rotten person. But the celebs that the IRS is after for back taxes, we never heard of them making donations.
She would probably go the retail therapy route anyway, so someone may as well benefit from it!
ReplyDeleteI've donated a lot of clothing to charity, not particularly high end but is that really something that could be a tax write off?
Why is it a bad thing if someone spends their own money? If someone wants a new wardrobe every year- more power to them. It's their danged money and they can spend it as they like.
ReplyDeleteGood for them and more power to them.
This isn't a bad thing. Most of us buy too many new clothes every season, and just cram them into the closet with the rest of our clothes. Good for her for giving her probably barely worn clothes to charity! I doubt she's buying anymore clothes than she would have anyway when she's replacing them. Also, why is it a bad thing to take advantage of a tax write off? I don't ever get a receipt for the the many things or money that we give to various charities because we don't make enough money to warrent itemizing our taxes, but I certainly don't begrudge people who do take the deductions.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds more like Joan Rivers, to me. I have seen pictures of Betty White in outfits that she has worn to different events and in different years. I'm not saying Betty White isn't generous, this just isn't her.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to think of the gesture as a kind act and personal ritual, and not something done simply for a tax write-off.
Anjelica Houston? Robert Graham died just a couple of years ago....
ReplyDeleteThe Joan Rivers guess is great! She adored her husband.
ReplyDeletenot even sure if she's still alive but nancy reagan was my first thought.
ReplyDeleteoh the disfunction. this girl needs some therapy stat. there's nothing wrong with WHAT she's doing, its WHY she's doing it. she's still reacting to the event the same way, year, after year, after...
ReplyDeleteAbout tax donations - there is a standard scale for tax write offs. A blouse is like $20 no matter if it is from the dollar store or Gucci. So she can write off, but not the full price of what she paid. So if you give 10K worth of clothes, you are not getting a 10K deduction.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes her feel good, great.
@Me, I don't see anything wrong with her ritual, she's honoring someone she loved, doing a good deed, and treating herself all at the same time. And btw, people react to the same events with the same actions year after year all the time. They're called "annual traditions". See: Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
ReplyDeletedonating your high-end wardrobe to an organization like the one that provides clothes for women going to interviews, etc, is a fine idea. And it's nice that she honors her husband in this way. Just because you remember someone or something in a special way, doesn't mean you're dysfunctional. It means that they meant something very special to you.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Woodward
ReplyDeleteIt's not Joan Rivers....Edgar was her SECOND husband. Anyway, she does a lot of charity work and doesn't have to PRETEND to give to charity to cover up a tax write off, when she ALREADY (& and quite willingly) works for charities.
ReplyDeleteBo Derek sounds good to me...If it's not her, I'm sure there are many who could and would fill the bill...there are so many 'celebrities' pretending to be charitable, but alas, are shallow and self serving...
It's how I get my clothes! Every season someone from a church by where I live donates amazing clothes in my size to their community outreach thrift store. I have jackets worth around $250 that I pick up for $8 or $10, beautiful tops I get for around $5. They look hardly worn and they're clothes I would never have without this person, and I'm so grateful to her, whoever she is!
