Wife Of Syracuse Basketball Coach Watched Him Molest Boys - ESPN And Police Knew Years Ago

In the wake of the Penn State child molestation scandal, it was discovered that long time assistant basketball coach at Syracuse University, Bernie Fine had also allegedly molested boys. He was suspended and has since been fired. How could the head coach at Syracuse not know about this? It supposedly went on for years and years. In fact, ESPN and the police had known about it for at least eight years and nothing was done. It also turns out that Bernie's wife watched him molest a boy that was staying at the house with them and that when one of the victims turned 18 she also slept with him. WTF? Isn't ESPN owned by Disney? You know, the network that caters to children. How is it they knew about all of this but did nothing? How did the police do nothing? I think every policeman and every person who knew something at ESPN should all be fired. I wish they could all be prosecuted or at least forced to apologize to every victim every morning for the rest of their lives. How do you just ignore something like this? Now ESPN is trying to cover their butts by airing the tapes they have had since 2003. They say they could not confirm everything in the tapes when they got them 8 years ago. It is not like they can now either, but they aired them because they know they are going to get sued. Even if you cannot report it on air, you sure can at least call the cops. If you see or think someone is being abused, get involved!

  1. Quickest and easiest explanation is in Dr. Robert Hare's book Without Conscience. The textbook explanation can be found in Mask of Sanity by Dr. Robert Cleckley. There are free downloads of Mask of Sanity all over the net. Happy reading folks!

  3. There's so much blame to go around, where do you even begin?

But shame on ESPN for not airing the tapes until yesterday. It seems when a third person came forward, ESPN decided to air the tapes, and within a few hours of them being aired, Bernie Fine was fired.

Every single person who was complicit in the cover up should be hanging their heads in shame.

  4. Next up, Disney.

Let that house of pedophilia crumble on their heads. We're in 2011, we all agree the Net had given disgusting slime free reign in indulging in their attraction to children, most of them unpunished, and never getting caught.

Let it all end now. Hope all comes to light, hope all that were in the "know" from near or far pay the proper price, and let's make sure that once and for all our children are truly protected.

Saw an interview not long ago with a pedophile who had opted to get castrated (balls caught off, not penis). He clearly states that where they used to hide, the internet now gave pedophiles the right to shine, and be part of communities (!!) where their sexual attraction for children is celebrated. That no matter what, it's in their blood. That even though he had been castrated, he still desires children, the softness of their skin (gag me with shovel), and that it's never ending.

However, like a lot of countries see women as a means to an end, or more likely a whole to an end, said pedophile community does not perceive children to be human beings with rights, and a voice. Just a sexual object to be used.

  5. Well, that's it. The whole world is just sick and crazy.

If I had kids I'd never want to let them out of my sight until they were--what--21 years old?

Dear God what a sick mess.

  6. I'm disgusted by this whole thing, and think that this is the tip of the iceberg of the corruption going on in college sports.

Could someone please point me to an article or something indicating that ESPN had this tape for years? I'd like to confirm it, so I can rant and rave against ESPN properly and honestly.

I'm disgusted by CNN.com. I went there to read about this story, and the headline is buried very deep on the page (I missed it at first). I didn't see the story on the CNN Sports section. I finally turned to twitter to read up on this.

How can a wife watch her husband molest a boy, and still stay with him? And then sleep with the boy when he turned 18?! WTF?

  7. And there ESPN was all this last month partaking in the Sandusky finger-pointing, when they had( and still WERE) participated in a similar cover-up themselves.

    Shame on them all.

  8. Fucking pigs!

I never let my 6 yr old boy out of my sight. I go everywhere with him. My babysitters are my family only. I take him to hockey, soccer, scouts, karate, Sunday school, etc & I volunteer with everything that he is involved with. PEOPLE - we need to protect our children. The monsters out their are damaging OUR children.

  10. I'm a pacifist and againt the death penalty but pedophiles can't be cured, they will always go after children. They deserve the death.

  11. I'm beginning to think this country needs a goddamn moratorium on sports. When pedophilia gets covered up again and again in the name of protecting the game, by not only institutions but by LAW ENFORCEMENT ITSELF, something is grievously wrong.

  12. f- pro sports...most of it is so damaging to players, people....just a bunch of f-ing puppet masters getting big-$$$.
go out and play sports for fun and stop supporting this sh^t

  13. ESPN says they couldn't corroborate the story. they also say they only recently got confirmation from voice analysis that this is really fine's wife on the tape.

i don't know what THEIR culpability is, but for sure there is something rotten in the world of athletics, especially for kids.

if you have a son and some coach or whatever shows a special interest in him, be very suspicious and never let your son be alone with the guy. that's all i got.

Be careful of Big Brothers/Big Sisters too. That's the group that connected my son with his molester, and I had a friend whose son's Big Brother did the same thing - to the boy's entire scout troop - while she was dating him.

I can't give to United Way to this day because they help BB/BS with funding.

  15. Woa Syko, how horrible! Hope you and your son are doing much better, and wish your son to lead a happy and fulfilling life. Stay strong!

  16. the pedophiles want to be close of children so many have a job who allow them to have an influence on the kids and to mix with kids

@syko:i hope the better for you and your son

  18. @ Diane - sticking with family is not necessarily a guarantee. It was my grandfather who did it to me. I think the most valuable thing we can give our children is confidence, loving parenting, and the knowledge that if something feels wrong it probably is, so get the heck out and tell a trusted grown up. These perverts build a relationship with the vulnerable kids, who are so needy for affection that they are thrilled that someone is singling them out as special - until, of course, the molestation starts. Poor, poor kids.

  19. I hope they all rot in hell.

  20. @gralismom - Very, very well said! Love this "I think the most valuable thing we can give our children is confidence, loving parenting, and the knowledge that if something feels wrong it probably is, so get the heck out and tell a trusted grown up".

  22. I think a lot of this is coming out because of the Penn State stuff. I wonder how many other stories will come out.

  23. Good posts everyone. Especially if you have children, please read the book I mentioned at top. Stay safe everyone!

  24. Disney is probably riddled with pedophiles too!

  25. These poor kids. That's all I can say.

  26. I am normally anti death penalty, but in the case of child molesters, let them fry.

Syko and Gralismom, thank you for sharing. Your words of wisdom could be what helps a child. You never know how you touch other people. I hope you and your families are doing well.

The abuse that has been mentioned makes me sick. The wife could have ended this years ago by ringing the police, but obviously she is a pedophile too, I don't care that the boy was 18, she abused him as much as her husband did. May they all rot in hell on earth and then hell after death.

  27. we live in Syracuse, and this is pretty awful. The university, newspapers and local government entities all seem as though they may have had a hand in covering this up. At the time of the complaint, the police chief was a former SU player and close to the program. This is quite likely going to get bigger and uglier as more facts come out. The current mayor called in the feds last week, otherwise who knows if it would have been covered up again, as it was in 2002. Ugly.

  28. I should have said, "covered up again, as it seemed to have been in 2002." Lawyered!!!!

Gralismom, you're right. The molestation of my kid went on right under my nose because, oddly enough, he loved his molester and knew I would have his ass thrown in jail if I knew...and he would have been embarrassed to have his friends know. This is the nature of molestation, it is usually someone the child knows and trusts and even admires, and the victim always feels guilty. We need to teach kids that this is not their fault if it happens to them. In my son's case, it happened when he was 11. He never told me until he was nearly 30, but that explained the years of drug abuse and misbehavior. He's 40 now and clean...or claims to be, and I think he is, he passes drug tests for prospective employers. But his teeth are falling out of his head (his drug of choice was crack), he's unemployed and just sort of skating along, mostly off me. Makes me very angry. At myself for never suspecting that the charming Marine officer who ate dinner at my table, joked with me and teased my teen daughters was anxious to get out of the house so he could perform oral sex on my baby and rub himself against him. At my son for not telling me. But mostly at the sick, disgusting pervert who ruined his life, and probably other kids', and was lucky enough to die from AIDS before I found out what he did.

  30. @Syko - I am so sorry. I wish I could wave a magic wand, doubtless your son does as well. I greatly admire your willingness to talk about it on here and promise you, just because of your comments I will be even more careful who I trust with my girls. Thank you.

  31. @Syko, I'm so, so sorry too. I send you hugs and affection. This kind of stuff has such aftershock for everyone. Fortunately, I'm happy and well adjusted (thank you therapy!) and the things that happened in my situation were not as horrific as other children have experienced.

These perverts will always exist. And they will always attempt to prey. However, I don't want to raise my children to be frightened of their own shadows - it's really tough to balance out keeping safe and smothering. Again, keep your kids loved, secure feeling and confident. Certainly the right therapy for children who are victimized is essential.
Actually, therapy for the caregivers of victimized children would probably be good too. I think the worst result of my own experience was my damaged relationship with my mom. We're better now, but for about 10 years after it was pretty shitty.

Hm... we need something to lighten the mood now... anyone have a joke up their sleeve?!

  33. Am of course always up for a joke!

Here's one that always lifts my spirits, although cheezy, with a lot of zzzz, but makes me stifle giggles like a loon for at least 15 minutes. Here it goes:

    Hey, did you guys know?

There's a new NASAL Viagra on the market.

    Yeah, it's for DICKHEADS!

Cheezy goodness, or plain cheese go to bed early Rita?

  34. See, this is exactly why, in the Penn State case, when everyone was shouting about who told the police, what the police knew, etc. I thought "Who cares?". They probably had a hand in covering it up, since it would affect the football program, just like the police covered it up at this school. I don't trust cops.

Agree w/ the rest of you. What a world we live in. :(
