Whoops! Pan Am Actress Says Show Is Canceled Then Has To Backtrack
I have to give some credit to Pan Am actress Karine Vanasse for trying to break interesting news quickly. Yesterday she Tweeted that Pan Am was being canceled and that there would only be one episode airing after Christmas. About three hours later she went back on Twitter to apologize and backtrack. Apparently someone at the show told her there was only going to be one more episode filmed, but ABC says the show is not canceled and is still in contention for next year. No it isn't. It is ok to say that you will finish the 13 episodes you ordered and probably air them, but it is not going to be on next season. Not enough people watch it. If it was on a cable network it would be successful because they are used to smaller numbers of viewers and could take more chances. ABC says it is going to run the series until February. They are stopping then because February is sweeps and if you are not good enough to make sweeps month you probably are not going to be back in the fall.
I really like this show. The first two episodes were weak but they picked up after that.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the clothes in that show. I die a little inside (of happiness?) when I see their outfits.
I tried to watch it, but did not click at all. Fell sometimes quite aggressive towards Christina Ricci perpetual "Chuck"-like freaky smile. Wanna get my hands around her neck or something. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteAnd now that they have Ashley Greene on... Well, unfortunately that doesn't make me anymore interested. She's a really bad actress.
What anita_mark said. It picked up after a few episodes. I like it, but like I said in the comments on a different post, I don't think it'll last long. If you don't grab the viewers' attention right away, it just won't last, and unfortunately they failed that part. It's too bad, it's a good show! Not crazy about Christina Ricci in it though. Overact much?
ReplyDeletethese shows just seem like cheap knock offs of Mad Men.
ReplyDeleteYou can't recreate magic that easily.
I watch it and it's enjoyable but not must see TV. If they are not going to renew it then why keep shooting the remaining episodes?
ReplyDeleteI was quite nauseated by all the blatant attempts to knock off the gem that is Mad Men this fall. But, people seem to love Pan Am. It's sad to me that networks do not give programs a chance to grow.
ReplyDeleteI think they had 3 done, and then decided to give the new producer 3 more to see what he could do with the show, and that brought it up to the 9 or 13 minimum order? I can't remember the exact numbers but there was also mention of getting at least some of the cost of production back with a few more airings and also nothing to put in the schedule until February. I have it on in the background, but its not a must see show for me like Once Upon a Time, Revenge, and Grimm.
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of getting into these new shows on the big 3 networks and then having them get cancelled on me. NBC is the worst. They're cancelling everything. I think I'm going to stick to the good cable shows, like Mad Men, Walking Dead, Homeland, etc. It's like, why bother getting into a show when it's going to be yanked off the air by Christmas.
ReplyDelete@FS - Revenge is dirty crazy good in a surprisingly clean way, no?
ReplyDeleteRevenge is good, but I'm a bit concerned where it might be heading. I'll reserve judgement until after tonight, but I got tired of Ringer after 3 episodes, don't want Revenge to take the same path.
ReplyDeleteChristina Ricci is terrible on this show. Her acting consists of bugging out her eyes and grimacing.
ReplyDeleteJust because it's set in the 60s doesn't mean it's a Mad Men rip-off. It's just the same time period, that's all.
ReplyDeleteThat French actress is the best thing about Pan Am. They blew it by focusing on Ricci and the others instead of her. I bet she speaks the truth and the show is done after they shoot the scripts that have been paid for.
ReplyDeleteKarine and Kelli both tweeted yesterday but because Kelli's is a locked account it didn't generate as much attention.
ReplyDeleteKarine is most definitely awesome though, I had a chance to do a Q&A with her before this went down and she's definitely the real deal(and those who know her from her home town says she hasn't changed either).
Uuugh. I agree with Kelli. I am so sick of getting into new shows only to have them cancelled. I'm still sad over the cancellation of Carnivale. Such a good show.
ReplyDeleteI watched most of one episode and thought it was boring and poorly written. They're trying to copy Mad Men, but the genius of that show is the great writing and storylines, not the sets and costumes.
ReplyDeleteThis is also bad news for poor Ashley Greene who just got cast in the show. She gets hired then the show gets cancelled? Who is she? Paula Marshall?
ReplyDeleteIf they wanted more viewers they should have done an episode where terrorists get on the plane and then the 4 girls would have to battle them until only the main bad guy was the last one on. Then the blond girl would kick him in the nuts repeatedly down the aisle to an open door and growl "Get off my plane." and kick him out like Harrison Ford did in Air Force One.
That I'd watch.
I loved the clothes on the show too. And the special attention they gave the passengers.
ReplyDeleteI know everyone said Ricci hasn't done anything to her face, but I disagree. Something
LOL @ JasonBlueEyes ;)
Karine is the best part of the show. She needs to have a big career after this!
ReplyDelete@Krab, how are they trying to copy Mad Men? It's set in the 60s, that's it.
ReplyDeleteOopsie, didn't finish a sentence. I meant to say I think Ricci has had SOMETHING to her face. It's frozen and there is something off.
ReplyDeleteAhsley was never becoming a permanent member of the show. She was only ever doing a 3 episode arc, which has now been turned into 4 (Episode 9 is her first ep, 12 her last).
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is getting the Paula Marshall tag it's Kelli. LOL.
