Producers Need To Just Say No
The NY Post has a story posted about how Nicki Minaj is making the producers of the American Music Awards crazy with her demands. Do you remember when the American Music Awards were the best thing ever except for the Grammy Awards? They happened a month before the Grammy Awards and it was the greatest concert on television. Way better than the Grammy Awards for performances and everyone was always there and then they decided to change months, more awards shows started airing and they did some things to make people lose interest and now it is almost on the scale of the People's Choice Awards.
Anyway, Nicki is refusing to perform unless two young British girls who appeared on Ellen rapping Nicki's songs were also there. So, the producers had to fly them from England with their parents and pay for lodging and this put them over budget. Just that put them over budget? Seriously? Four airplane tickets and a hotel room put a network show over budget? Crazy. I don't believe that part. The producers also say that Nicki is not going to tone down her act and that she will have a vibrating phallic symbol between her legs during the performance. You know, I don't understand why producers don't say no. I think the same number of people will watch the show with or without Nicki. This is not like Michael Jackson has just been discovered in a cave by his disciples and is going to perform if you will give in to his demands. This is Nicki Minaj. Drop her. As soon as you do she will come back. She wants the record sales boost. When you give in, it just encourages diva behavior and establishes a new baseline.
I don't care too much for her, but I did see the episode of Ellen that those two girls performed on and she surprised them by showing up. She said that she had only been contacted by the show the night before, so she did not have time to buy them anything, but wanted to take them on a shopping trip the next day.
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand, I think it's sweet that she wants them to be there. On the other hand, it sounds like she's stroking her own ego...
I agree with Cathy. However, Nicki has been on a downward spiral for a few months now: wasn't she the one who fought with the help, pulling hair, scratching eyes out, etc?
ReplyDeleteWhatever it is, Nicki was on my radar for new special talent a year ago, then simply dropped out. I personally dislike diva-ish behavior, and much more prefer to hear about stars being gracious, rather than abusive.
when Gwen Stephani promoted her solo album, she had a staff of 20 peoples with her in Europe more 2 japanese girls paid to sit next to her during the interview
ReplyDeleteWasn't she a popular answer for a R&B singer who has serious drug problems? Yeah, I can see it
ReplyDeleteI don't follow her, but maybe she needs the side show to detract from the quality, or lack of , of her live show?
ReplyDeleteBut Pomme, that was Gwen Stefani. This is Nicki Minaj.
ReplyDeleteMy question is, were the American Music Awards ever good? I always equated them with the People's Choice Awards. If the person was in the audience, they were winning. I always thought it sucked the worst.
Either drop her or deal with it. I have a hard time feeling sorry for the Awards Show - if they want a certain artist who is famous for performing in a certain way, that's what you're going to get! Why on earth would she tone down her act, which is why she's famous in the first place? I'm no Minaj fan, but I don't see the point in forcing her to do a performance that isn't really authentic.
ReplyDeleteAir commercials during her performance, so she can do what she wants. Problem solved.
ReplyDeleteNicki, meet Foxy Brown. Foxy Brown, Nicki. I'm sure you guys will be sharing a room on The Surreal Life or a jail cell for beating up a manicurist in the near future, so please, get acquainted.
ReplyDeleteI actually think having the two young British girls perform is FANTASTIC! How amazing will it be for them? Yes, it is a bit ego stroking but whatever.
ReplyDeleteAs for the phallic vibrating thing- uhhhh. just say no Nikki, just say no
I watch Ellen everyday, & the 2 British darlings have been on twice. The last time they were on, Ellen actually "hired" the little girls to do red carpet interviews for her, as she has done in the past with other audience members/fans.
ReplyDeleteSo, Ellen would be the one flying them out & putting them up, not the AMA's.
Although, if I were their parents I would not want my child on stage with Nikki & her dildo.
Nicki needs to do something to add some umph to those boring dead dry sorry excuse for a performer antics she pulls on stage.
ReplyDeleteDildo + children? Who does she think she is, Rihanna?
"Who does she think she is, Rihanna?" Sounds like she's trying to be. Great thing about her demands is that either she gets them, upping the ante for the next time she does an award show, or she doesn't get them but we'll all be talking about it so it's free publicity. (Think about JLo's bizarre all-white dressing room demands from a few years ago.)
