Padma Lakshmi's Boyfriend Dies
Padma Lakshmi's on and off again boyfriend, Theodore Forstmann, who was 71, died yesterday of brain cancer. The couple had been together for about four years. She went from Salman Rushdie pretty much to Forstmann, although there was the fling with Adam Dell that produced her daughter. Forstmann was an interesting guy. Prior to dating Padma his most noteworthy girlfriend was Princess Diana. They were hot and cold over the last few weeks of her life, which considering she was also seeing someone else probably makes sense and at one point the two had discussed marriage. Forstmann died of brain cancer.

ReplyDeleteWho cares about the girlfriends? The guy was actually a good guy. He eschewed junk bonds when buying companies, built firms instead of just piecing them apart for profit, pledged half of his wealth to charity, and helped 123,000 low-income kids get a great education by avoiding failing schools (http://dropoutnation.net/2011/11/20/a-considerable-legacy-ted-forstmann/). The fact that he dated Padma just says that he also had good taste in women.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm with Sevenmack. This guy was incredibly smart and gifted. His life was far more interesting than just who he dated...
ReplyDeleteOn a snarky note: I still can't believe anyone thinks this woman is good looking.
ReplyDeleteHe was an incredible man, didn't marry cause he said he wouldn't be good at it, gave tons of money mostly for the well being of children and was part of the Bill Gate pledge to giveaway half of his wealth.
ReplyDelete@ Robert. I think Padma is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteOT: Just saw Giada on Rachael Ray with Tom Colicchio and Emeril, which got me to thinking about the blind item a few weeks ago re: a celebrity chef and a talk show and keeping her away from the band. Giada said it was the first time she was on the show.
Susan - I watched some TV this morning because my son woke up ridiculously early. Giada was on the Today show... Don't know if that is new or not, but they alluded to her weekly spot. Could it be the today show? I can't remember the specifics of the blind...
ReplyDeleteI thought he was married to Charlotte Ford? Or maybe they were just together for a long stretch, maybe 20-30 years ago?
ReplyDeleteis there anyone princess diana wasn't going to marry in the last few weeks of her life?
ReplyDelete@zelda: Yah. That Prince Charles guy LMAO
ReplyDeleteI don't find Padma interesting at all. I don't think her food critiques are helpful or thoughtful. But I love Tom Colicchio and Top Chef!
I used to get happy when Padma said "Furnished by Buitoni."
ReplyDelete@Susan - I'm watching that episode right now & was thinking the same. It would be funny if the answer to the blind was Rachael Ray since so many people though she was the subject of the blind with John Mayer. : )
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe anyone doesn't think she's good looking. To each their own. :)
ReplyDeleteI think she's interesting looking which can be much better than being beautiful. But I bet she's super smart and very charming.
ReplyDeleteHer face is bizarre. It's like the center part doesn't move -- and not in a botox sort of way.
ReplyDeleteI know she had a major accident when she was younger. Did she have reconstructive surgery on her face? (That's a serious question, not a snide remark.)
