Justin Timberlake Goes To The Marine Corps Ball

If this had been Scarlett Johansson instead of Justin Timberlake, a Marine would have been waiting forever before he realized he had been stood up. Much like Mila Kunis, Scarlett does not have the best reputation when it comes to honoring commitments that do not line her wallet. Justin Timberlkae though made good on his promise to be the date of Corporal Kelsey De Santis after she invited Justin to be her date via YouTube.

Justin wrote about the experience on his website, and you can tell how happy he is that he went. He called it one of the most moving evenings he has ever spent and said, "She seemed to me to be so humble and honest... Very cool. She also simultaneously seemed like she was nervous about the whole evening and if I was going to enjoy myself. 'Are you ok?' she asked 2 or 3 times. 'I hope you are having fun. I know you will once my crew of friends get here to the table.' "

"I have to tell you, it's not every day that I meet a 23 year old girl and she's more worried about if I'm having fun or if I'm comfortable! It hit me all of a sudden that these were the type of people that look after us and our freedom... Humble, concerned for others before themselves... This was the type of person our Marine Corps was building. I was really blown away. I felt so proud to be there. I felt like I was getting a chance to be among my heroes. It's funny too because a lot of them are SO younger than me."

This kind of moves Justin up a few notches doesn't it?

  4. Yes it does. Makes me realize how out of touch celebrities are also.

  5. Let's hope he doesn't forget this a week from now, and go back to his dickish ways.

  6. I can't help it. He seems like an okay person to me, so I like him.

  7. i've always loved him and feel no need to qualify it. he just seems like a very nice guy.

  8. I love that he dressed up as Ernie for ComiCon (sp?). To me, JT seems like the goofy friend of your little brother who always cracks you up when he's over to visit. Kinda geeky but funny.

  9. Best think JT has ever done.

So Mila backed out after all? I guess I missed that, last I heard, she was going still doing it.

  10. Yea what happened with Mila? Last I heard she was going?

  11. I have to say this was very cool of him. Plus this wasn't blasted to every web site and tabloid show.

His PR team could of gotten a lot of steam out of this and didn't.

I guess Mila didn't have a champagne sponsorship to send a case of wine and free advertising for it.

Very nice that Justin went. I'm not a fan, but this wins him some points in my book.

  15. I think I really like JT. I never paid much attention to him during his boy band days, but he seems like a nice guy. What he had to say about the Marine ball was very cool. I actually got a little misty reading this!!

  16. I have no idea what JT is like in person, I just like that he seems to be so damn hard working and fully participates in whatever he actually commits to. He has been the best thing about SNL the last few years. I just wish he would do another album in between his acting gigs.

  17. Me too nancer. I didn't know he accepted so it's really cool he showed up when Mila & Scarlett didn't. Not that being a celebrity requires you to say yes to everything. It sounds like he really appreciated the night and genuinely had fun.

  18. I think the more impressive thing is not that he went its that he isn't famewhoring it out. Either way I think its hard to not see that there definitely is some cool in Justin... I don't think he would collaborate w the Lonely Island/SNL/Jimmy Fallon contingent if not, I don't think he would do this if not, I don't think he would treat his mom like gold if not. But there is also clearly a dickish side to him as well... I think that is called being human and that everyone celeb or civilian has both. Not a big fan of him in any way other than on SNL; just think this a nice thing of him to do and also even nicer to not milk it for press.

    Kudos JT for doing this!

  22. I don't know why people think JT is a dick...I actually really think he's a decent guy. Who should stop acting and get back to singing and dancing. Immediately.

  25. Was never a fan of JT but this just shows what a good guy he is....his mom should be very proud of him. From now on he'll have my respect.

  26. This does make me like him and I was a bit moved by what he wrote about it. He surely didn't have to go, but I bet he's glad he did.

Meh.. He still doesn't do it for me. I used to love him after he came out solo when before he blew up liking JT was not considered cool.. However after years of reading and seeing his interviews I've had a change of heart. What he did this weekend was sweet but he's still meh in my book

  29. Well played, Justin. I'm proud of you for honoring your commitment.

  30. between this and the snl "put a ring on it" act, yes, like him.

  31. There are a lot more quotes from JT and yes, it bumped him up a few notches in my book. We at the ball in Ft. Huachuca, AZ on Friday night and it never fails to touch me deeply.

My husband served in the Corps for 21 years, his father served during the Korean War and both of my sons are currently serving our country. My baby just graduated from boot camp. The USMC are the best and the brightest.

They deserve respect and our support, as do all of our men and women in uniform.

  32. Dammit! He's supposed to be a pompous ass. I don't want to like him, but I do. For this. I may need to reconsider.

  33. Yep, this makes him hot. And he looks cute in the picture, too!

  34. I think he had to go because his butt would have been crap in the press. I think JT is still a douche, but smarter than I gave him credit for.

  35. @Sussique, I was wondering the same thing
