Hugh Jackman's Wife Evasive About His Sexuality

Deborra-Lee Furness gave a quick interview to the NY Post. She talked about how she has been shoved out of the way by people desperate to see her husband and that despite her being older than Hugh that Hugh is much more mature than her. To their credit, the Post did ask her a tough question and asked her about the speculation of Hugh's sexuality. I don't understand her answer. “The line I heard was, ‘Wolverine? Who would have thought?’ Hugh and I don’t pay much heed. It’s kind of tragic that these people have nothing better to do than gossip about people they don’t know.”

What kind of answer is that? She obviously did not even have to answer the question and could have just said it is private. She did answer though and I'm not sure if she is saying they don't pay much heed to the speculation or if this is a denial or just something for everyone to discuss today. What do you think she meant?

  1. She has been asked about it before and she said that he is not gay. Gay or not, he is yummy and very talented.

  2. I see it as her denying it w/o totally denying it?

  3. I could care less if he is or isn't gay. What a shame that people just can't be who they are without all the OOH HE OR SHE IS GAY shit. Just be! Screw what everyone else thinks!

As for Hollywood not treating gay people like they treat heterosexuals...its just bs! I mean movies, tv, all of it is just make believe right? Then why can't we just make believe a gay actor is straight in whatever show or movie they're in? I mean we do it with NPH on HIMYM? Why can't we do it with everyone so that people can just live they're lives and BE WHO THEY ARE!

  4. who cares! he's talented, they look happy together and have a nice family

  5. He is SUCH an awesome man. I know people who have worked with him, and no one ever has anything bad to say.

I'd beard for him in a SECOND! Just to be around him! :)

  6. I think he's talented, nice, & hot regardless of his sexuality & don't care if they're married for companionship/bearding or not...but there's a part of me that hopes their's is a full-on sexual relationship because of the snub that gives Hollywood etc of what they normally propagandize as being the most important in relationships--ie youth & beauty.

  7. I think she was trying to politely say nunayobiz...and she's right.

  8. Don't care love him....he's a great dad....and they seem happy, so it's none of my business...
Now ask me about some of the other closeted actors...

  9. whether he is or not, my chances of being with him is still the same = no gonna happen. ;)

  10. Agreed, he is one yummy yummy man. Recently saw Swordfish and he was soo hot. Like Paris said, I'd be his beard any day. And we share the same birthday too! Ooh the presents I would give him!

  12. Ugh, why should she HAVE to answer? Seems to me her answer was pretty clear: "You're pathetic for asking that question and gossping, you parasite."

I'd like her better if she didn't have that Kate Gosselinesque hair.

  14. Amen, Janelle and RocketQueen!

  15. if you want private life; don't do an interview w/ the post. you cannot have it both ways. his sexuality has always been questioned. i think she answered it well. she basically said that she and her husband find everyone wondering about it amusing. kind of like, "yes, you are all dying to know & so we aren't saying"

  16. Shame on you, Enty. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill!
Let me translate: "Who cares? None of your business."

And I'd take him in a heartbeat.

  17. sounds like a denial to me...either way, who cares? He is talented as all heck and they seem happy.

  18. I have no real opinion on whether he's gay or not, but I don't think there's any shame in gossiping about celebrities. It must be difficult though, to be married to someone about whom there are so many rumors like that. Of course, it must also be difficult to be married to someone who is secretly gay.

  19. I'm still having a hard time believing she gave an interview to the NY Post. Do people really do that?

  20. I don't think he's gay. I think people can't deal with the fact that he married a woman that doesn't pass THEIR standards of acceptable beauty standards. They have a nice family and seem very happy together. I don't blame her for not giving the freaking NY Post a straight answer. What did they think?? That she was going to say "Why yes, he is gay. I've been bearding for him for all these years because we just didn't think he could make it on Broadway as a gay man."???? More power to them and their marriage!

  21. I think she's saying eff you. Good for her. Seriously, why should anyone care about his sexuality when they are both ok with what ever it is? They are married with a family, he seems like a cook guy, a good actor and sexy as hell and he's with her.

I dont know if Jackman is gay or not, but to me his relationship with Furness makes sense.
Jackman's mother abandoned him when he was very small and he and his brothers were raised full time by his Dad. Jackman only reunited with his mother when he was an adult and I understand it is still strained.
So if he has a few mommie issues and married an older woman who made him feel safe, secure and gives love unconditionally I would say psychologically speaking it makes perfect sense.

  23. "Every marriage is a mystery, some more than others." I don't know who originally said that, but I first heard it applied to Bill and Hillary Clinton. It could apply here, too.

  24. I'm getting so sick of the who is gay in Hollywood gossip, and I think her answer was along those lines. The fact that Hugh is a great musical theater talent just adds oil to the fire, plus that they adopted. So I'm with everyone else here who says, who cares? He's great.

From what I've seen, he truly seems to cherish her and love her, and he certainly seems a great father. He is also gorgeous, funny, talented and warm. I hear his new show is miraculous. Go, Hugh! I'm a fan.

  26. I think its none of my business. Love comes in all shapes and sizes.

  27. I agree with Gypsy. As far as the quote is concerned, it does sound like a nice way of saying, "None of your business!" It also could have been taken out of context of a larger statement which was more definitive.

  28. Why do people feel like they have the right to ask about someone's sex life? Seriously, the next time someone asks someone if they are gay, that person should look at the interviewer and ask "do you like missionary or doggie-style?"...turn the tables! Why should what anyone does in the bedroom be anyone else's business? Being gay is only a big deal because people make it a big deal. They are not gay or straight, they are human. Stop treating them like they are some alien life-force that needs to be studied! /steps off soapbox

  29. Asking about intrusive gossip is a tough question? Actually, no. But she's a tough lady and her answer is quite clear. Well, it's clear unless you're one who insists that everyone's gay until proven otherwise and are constantly looking for any "clues" about who might be gay. Then, yes, it's quite ambiguous and mysterioso that she didn't acknowledge the legitimacy of the gossip and expressly deny it. Jaysus.

  30. I really don't care what his sexual preference is. It's his business and no one else's. He's a good looking actor who is great to watch in movies. I've also heard he's the nicest male actor in Hollywood. If he's not out there causing trouble or hurting anyone, then who cares.

  31. I love these two, they have been together since they hooked up on the set of an Australian TV show years ago before Hugh became famous in the US. So there is no doubt to me that he is NOT gay. Its sad that she has to put with people saying shes not good enough for Hugh. Perez was really nasty about her a while ago, like I needed another reason hate that vicious little ****!!

  32. Enty, the reply was taken out of context. It's called tabloid reporting. It's crap writing.

Deb and Hugh used to live around the corner from me in Melbourne. I used to see them all the time and they were constantly kissing, holding hands, walking with their arms around each other, nuzzling and being quite revolting. There were no paparazzi either, this was Melbourne, Australia - it's not LA. I'd also like to say how fucking nice they were too, they joined the local charity attached to the supermarket - and yes, they were always in there and the market as well.

I don't know whether this makes him straight or camp as a row of tents. This sort of question is such bullshit because, who cares?

    ReplyDelete
  33. The best answer, of course, would be "Why? Are you planning on hitting on him?" ;-)

Whatever the story, they're wonderful parents and seem to enjoy each others' company, which already puts them way ahead of a lot of people, famous or not.

  34. I could care less if he's as flaming as the candles on a drag queen's birthday cake. I'd take him in a minute. He looks like he'd be really fun to even just talk to. He is even nice to the paparazzi. What's not to love about Hugh? Deb is a lucky lady.

  35. It's always thought to be one or the other: gay or straight. The reality is, there's a substantial portion of humanity that identifies as being in one group, but likes to occasionally play with the other. That's why researchers into male sexual habits include a category of men defined as "men who have sex with men". No, they're not gay. Call them heteroflexible.

It may be that Hugh falls into that category. If his wife is okay with it, then there's no problem at all.

  36. Another Melburnian chiming in here. These two got together when Hugh was a nobody and Deborah was a very well-known and well-respected Australian actress with the higher profile (her work is amazing). Well before he made it in the US, these guys were all over each other like cheap suits. Very in love and not just for the sake of a photo op (that doesn't really happen in Melbourne). I couldn't give a toss what happens in their private life nowadays but I do hate how people report on DLF. She's an amazing, gutsy and talented lady.

  37. Its fucked up to me because I think these people question Hugh's sexuality because hes married to a woman who is not some super hot chick. If he were married to some super hot chick there wouldnt be any gossip about his sexuality.

Pretty fucked up and insulting to this lady.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Harry I agree with you. People expct Hugh to pull an Ashton and go off and cheat on his wife with any 21 party girl that throws their panties in his face.

He's happy she's happy the kids are happy. The media would love to tear their fairytale down. It's nice they don't let it get in the way of their family life.

  39. I always giggle that Hugh is married to David's mom from Newsies.

  40. and amen to the rest of the rest of the commenters! I love reading insightful, interesting comments from the readers here on CDAN...The commenters from Melbourne especially! I find it fascinating that so many people know that these people are married, and happy and so many others want to make an issue of this mans sexuality. Why? Because he is happy? Because he is gorgeous? Because his beautiful wife doesn't try and fit some insand Hollywood standard that a size 0 is the only way to be presentable? Cheers to this wonderful woman who is obviously living a fantastic life. Good for her and good for her family!

  41. I thought this was a gossip site. Now we're saying that it's none of our business? Of course it's none of our business. Very little on this site is our business. That doesn't mean we aren't curious. Knowing that Hugh Jackman is straight, gay or somewhere in between won't quell my love for him, but damnit I'm nosy... and curious.

Something a real entertainment lawyer (or *any* entertainment insider) would have realized long time ago.

  43. Yes, I'm with the wife. None of anyone's business. She brushed off a completely ignorant and intrusive question with a bit of a joke. Good for her.

  44. Love the comments from the Melbourne readers!

I am also disgusted by the fact that anyone would think he was gay because of his wife's hot factor. And for what it's worth, I think she's quite pretty!
