Happy Nerd New Year
I hope that all of you have stopped what you are doing and looked at your clock and if you haven't then you need to so tonight. Of course, since I am on the west coast, the people in just about the entirety of the world have had a chance to celebrate one of the greatest nerd events of the century. 11/11/11 11:11:11. Apparently I am not alone in thinking it is a pretty cool event. Wedding licenses in Las Vegas are up a zillion percent because people all want to get married today and at last count some 4,000 couples have already applied to get married and that is just Vegas.
I actually think this should be a post about Armistice Day - just in time this morning I remembered about the minute silence at 11.11am and it felt like the longest minute of both my life and that of my colleagues. That feeling never changes each year I observe it.
ReplyDeleteStill, I get the kitsch factor about marrying on 11/11/11, but I think remembering those who died in the wars should take precedence. Sorry to turn my post into a serious-fest, don't mean for it to sound preachy.
Jessica Simpson was supposed to get married today.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who turned 33 today. 11/11/11 = 11 + 11 + 11 = 33. He's a pretty cool/lucky guy.

As a disabled vet, I'd like to thank you, Sio, for remembering today for what it is. I appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention that the Veteran's Day ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery start at 11:00 a.m.
ReplyDelete@BinkyM - thank you for your service.
ReplyDeleteSio - thank you for saying what I've been thinking all day. So all the numbers are 1's...big whoop. It means nothing, whereas the sacrifices our veterans have made mean we live in a free, prosperous country. I hate that 80% of my twitter feed is about the date.
ReplyDelete@Treesap that's cool. Happy 11:11:11 Enty and everyone who makes CDAN so great. (You know who you are).
ReplyDeleteWell said, Sio.
