At Urban Outfitters?

Every year Black Friday just gets more insane. I thought several years ago when the woman died at a Wal-Mart and others were hospitalized was the worse, but this year was the worst. I think it is because you have people who have been up all day cooking since 5am, spent 12 hours with their families in sometimes stressful situations and then have them head out at ten at night or midnight to try and get deals which really are not that great. You also know Black Friday has gone too far when you get a crowd like the one below at an Urban Outfitters. Seriously? You would think it was a bunch if teenage girls and they were lining up to spend their 30 seconds alone with Justin Bieber. It is an Urban Outfitters.

Never left the house. Not going to risk death to save $5 on a toaster when a toaster is a crappy gift anyway because they are so cheap, everyone has one.

  4. I worked in retail, and had to spend my days on the selling floor from Black Friday through Christmas.
Believe me when I say these people are crazy. The best sales start after Christmas. We used to bring in "special merchandise" to promote for Black Friday weekend and it was never the best...but it sold like crazy.
If I can't do it online I don't do it. Cash or a Visa, MC, or Amex gift card is the way to go and there's always cash.

I hate Urban Outfitters. You wash a shirt once, and it falls apart. Biggest scam in the clothing biz. At least with Walmart it's cheap, and you know it's crap.

  8. I don't think it's even because of the "deals" anymore. It's become a blood sport. The pepper spray Mom here in SoCal really took the cake.

I'd rather pay full price TYVM.

  9. I wonder why the Fire Marshall does not enforce rules at stores like this? You know when you see a sign that says something like "This building/room has a 300 person limit capacity"

    All that mayhem....for STUFF.

  11. I think there should be some kind of law for this foolishness. The store should at least have to PAY the fire department to come out at 5am to control the amount of people in the store, AND the store should have to either pay police or private security for crowd control.

  14. My honey works at Walmart and the store was shut down seven times on BF for capacity violations. Two women broke another woman's arm pulling her down off of a pallet of SHEETS and several people were pepper sprayed. Twenty-seven arrests were made that night. Insanity. And this is in rural Tennessee.

  16. I did some online BF shopping - if you want to see some online craziness, check out Sephora's Facebook page. Their website crashed for several hours due to the traffic and you would think that Sephora took away some people's first borns with the hell that broke loose. I understand it's frustrating but at the same time, it's STUFF people.

  18. if you live in So Cal i have been hosting a fun, handmade, locally made craft fair...our Orange County event was today and it was the best time shopping locally while having fun...people come out for it in crowds but they are all hugging each other-great community event

and i have a retail store too- we are closed on Black Friday and Sat-we are just not that type of store and wont support it.

  19. Good for you Uunknown. I just don't get the appeal of "Back Friday". Everyone who can read knows there aren't real deals. MAYBE one or two but not enough to risk life and limb. These people are mindless sheep following the herd. I feel sorry for them.

  22. God, I feel bad for the employees at that store.

I am a recovering retail employee of Macys. I worked all departments. Juniors is the worst with shoplifting. I bet you half of these asshats in Urban are looting the store.

I felt so bad for the employees of WalMart, Kohl's Toys R Us, Target, Macys, etc., in the days leading up to this year's Thanksgiving. The stores just open earlier and earlier. It's crazy.

I did go out this Friday, just because my husband was around to stay with the baby. But I went out around lunchtime. Everyone was perfectly nice and reasonable. Good deals at Kohl's on kid stuff. I actually think it's more hectic the week before Christmas.

Christmas is such a racket. And let me tell ya, people are such No. 1 assholes as the holidays approach when shopping.
