Today's Blind Items
So, I was reading an article the other day about this actor and I love how he just ignores the part of his life that was wild and crazy. Just because there was no TMZ to capture a moment, does not mean no one remembers. People were there. Like me.
Back in the day, there was a very popular sitcom on the air. It was on one of the big 3, although the 4th network did exist at the time. It was also long running. Anyway, the star (A- list then and now probably a C+)of the show was kind of coming into his own and testing the dating market. He had not done much previous to the show and was enjoying all the female attention. One person he was interested in was a co-star on the show (B- list then. Now, you probably don't even know her name). A little older but so good looking. He was head over heels for her, but she was so far ahead in the school of life that it was comical to watch. She humored him and one day she had a lot to drink and they had sex. To her, not a big deal. To him? It was love. In order to keep up with her he started drinking and doing coke because that is what she was doing and he wanted another chance with her. Every so often she would. Meanwhile, the star was a wreck. The drinking and drugs were out of control. So, a little time passes and our star goes to make a movie. This leaves the co-star behind and she hooks up with this guest star (at the time a no one. Later A list and now still a B) on the show. Well, when our actor comes back and finds this out he is devastated and the spiral downward which had stopped when he was shooting the movie is back on again. She explains to the actor that they were not exclusive and he was away after all. So, the actor resumes his puppy dog ways, until he goes out one night and spots the co-star making out with a gentleman who was also with the show and who was about double the age of the co-star. At this point our star goes on a week long drug and alcohol binge that was legendary for years. And this was at a time when people could spend some money on coke. This was out of control. It lasted for one week then he snapped out of it, went to the producers and said he would walk unless the co-star was fired. She was. Never spoke to her again.
#1 - Show
#2 - Star
#3 - Co-star
#4 - Guest star
Fox started in 1987, so the show would've had to be before then? Since there was just the big three back then?
ReplyDeleteIt's right on the tip of my tongue...
ReplyDeleteWhat I remember is a scandal about an actress getting fired out of nowhere. Oh - I'm just frustrated trying to think of it!
"although the 4th network did exist at the time."
ReplyDelete@ Dana - I'm reading this is as it's a big three, but Fox did exist. So, it could be a show from the 90s. Right?
ReplyDeleteOops, I read it wrong. I thought that he said it DIDN'T exist.
ReplyDeleteF in reading comprehension skills.
@CB - Kirk Cameron had Julie Costello fired from Growing Pains after she posed in Playboy, but I don't think that works for this blind.
@CB
ReplyDeleteCheers?
Head of the Class?
Family Ties?
Full House?
Roseanne?
227?
What about:
ReplyDelete1. Wonder Years
2. Fred Savage
3. Olivia D'Abo
4. David Schwimmer
Oh, wait, not Schwimmer. He's not twice the age of Olivia d'Abo.
ReplyDeleteOff to research Wonder Years guest stars....
Yeah, I was thinking Growing Pains.
ReplyDelete1. Growing Pains
2. Kirk Cameron
3. Julie Costello actress
4. Matthew Perry
Don't think Wonder Years was a sitcom. It was more of a drama?
ReplyDeleteSo guest star is different from the older guy he spotted her making out with? It sounds like it.
ReplyDeleteLarge cast of characters here.
1. Mork & Mindy?
ReplyDelete2. Robin Williams?
3. Pam Dawber?
4. Jonathan Winters?
(5) I actually have no idea.
I don't recall Kirk have a drug problem.
ReplyDeleteThe intro makes Kirk Cameron a good guess. Enty was reading an article about him, he ignores the part of his life that was wild and crazy, etc. And Kirk did make a couple of movies.
ReplyDelete@Trey - Oh, you're right. Why am I having such a hard time comprehending this one?
ReplyDeleteI stand by Wonder Years, then. It's considered a comedy-drama but I think it can fall under the sitcom umbrella since it was just 30 minutes long.
The final straw was the actress making out with 'gentleman on the show'. Alan Thicke then?
ReplyDeleteIf it was Julie Costello, wouldn't she have already spilled the beans on the real reason she was fired?
ReplyDeleteFresh Prince of Bel Air? Googling I found that Janet Hubert was fired from the show at age 53. And I mean the guy who played Carleton would have been the "Star" - not Will Smith of course
ReplyDeleteCorrection, Janet Hubert is now age 53 -- Alfonso Ribeiro played Carelton
ReplyDelete@ Female_commuter_parent:
ReplyDeleteEwww! Now I'm picturing Aunt Viv snogging either Uncle Phil or Geoffrey! Eww! Ha ha!
That being said, it does fit....
Kirk Cameron fits. I've never heard of him having a problem with drugs or alcohol, but he did become a born again Christian during the the run of the show. The cast members have said that he was very zealous about it at the time. That may have been his way of dealing with the addictions. He definitely used that in his attack on his co star. He started complaining that the plotline was too racy for a family show, and of course her posing for Playboy.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Kirk Cameron ever had a drug problem... at least one that I heard about. He was all over the teen rags back then.
ReplyDelete@CB
ReplyDeleteKittens!!! Think of kittens!!!
For some strange reason Kirk Cameron comes to mind, especially in light of the first paragraph.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with:
ReplyDeleteCheers
Ted danson
Shelley long
Kelsey grammar
I realize Kirk Cameron was big back in the day, but would anyone describe him as C+ now? I don't think so.
ReplyDelete@ M - ROFL at Pam Dawber & Jonathan Winters! (I'll be happy to comfort poor Mark Harmon!)
ReplyDeleteThe Kirk Cameron/Julie McCullough/Matthew Perry guess is gold!
ReplyDeleteAlas, Perry and McCullough were never in the same episodes.
Rick Shroeder and Erin Gray?
ReplyDeleteSilver Spoons?
FYI...Fox was around for years...but it was a nothing station in it's early years. I also think it showed local programming at a certain time...like a PBS. It didn't have much on it and it didn't become a network station until '87. THat's when they started putting sitcoms and actual TV shows.
ReplyDeleteNot Kirk Cameron. He married the girl who played his girlfriend on the show. He's still married to her.
ReplyDeleteJason Bateman as the guest star on Silver Spoons
ReplyDeleteTwo problems with the Kirk Cameron guess. He is no way a C list actor now. He also didn't have a "legendary" drug problem.
ReplyDeleteFred Savage was only 12 when wonder years started, and Olivia D'Abo was only on it for 4 seasons...seems a little young for that.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to make Family Matters and Jaleel White work for a few minutes. There was an article about him 2 days ago on CNN and TMZ.
ReplyDeleteAnyone?
Jason Bateman was more or less a regular on Silver Spoons, and Erin Gray was a regular the whole time.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I'd call Fred Savage C+ at this point. He directs a lot of sitcoms and is quite successful behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like the Rick Schroeder guess. And that has the added appeal of Matthew Perry as a guest on the show. That Matt, he's quite the homewrecker. haha
ReplyDeleteEight is Enough?
ReplyDeleteWillie Ames?
I really dunno
Wow, this is a tough one.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was Cheers, but can't work out the female part.
This seems like it should be easy to figure out, what with all the detail clues.
Any female fired from Night Court?
Crap, I'm all over the map now! lol
The female lead on Night Court, Ellen Foley, was indeed fired after one season. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteKirk Cameron and Tracey Gold were the ones who popped into my mind. The actions of the characters sound like young people. It doesn't say that the male had a publicized drug problem, but that he started using and then went out of control for a week.
ReplyDeleteShe missed the last two eps supposedly due to anorexia but she also could have been fired and part of her anorexic appearance could have been drugs.
P.S. I would describe him at C+ now based on the name recognition.
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me how many of us thought of Kirk Cameron. Perhaps his binge was legendary to the people who knew about it, but not to the public. Hollywood used to be good at keeping secrets.
ReplyDeleteFor the much older Wonder Years male castmate - Daniel Stern?
The mom from Family Matters was replaced later in the series....
ReplyDeleteHaving a hard time with the time period, I didn't really watch any sitcoms back then. All I can come up with is stuff from before or after the late 80's.
ReplyDeleteI'm with JW on this. The blind doesn't say C+ actor, it says C+ star, which means name recognition. Since there was just an article about Kirk on here in the past week, I'd say Enty would categorize him as C+, or he wouldn't have bothered with the article at all.
ReplyDeleteIt's the intro that makes me think it's Kirk. Plus, he did become Born Again during the run of the show, he wasn't always religious. And it doesn't say the drug binge was known to the public, I get the feeling it's legendary in the industry. Back then gossip was pretty rare, especially for something like drugs. The public wasn't made aware of it the way we are now.
Didn't the Wonder Years sister have a known drug problem? I would have described her as "so good looking." Although based on his age, that's gross.
ReplyDeleteMy problem with the Growing Pains guess is it can't be Tracey Gold because she could only be described, at best, as cute. As for that other girl that he had fired, would be have been described as a "co-star?" More like recurring guest star.
It can't be Silver Spoons (ended in 87, thank you IMDB).
Why am I thinking "Friends". Can that lead go anywhere? I never really watched it...
ReplyDeleteI don't think Kirk Cameron ever made a movie. That clue is what made me think of Fresh Prince. or maybe it was the Hogan Family (but have trouble picturing Valerie in that way).
ReplyDeleteKirk Cameron did a few movies during the run of Growing Pains, most notably "Like Father, Like Son" with Dudley Moore. (It was a Freaky Friday-type thing.)
ReplyDeleteRemember the blind where Enty and some friends had a crazy (legendary) week (weekend?) in Europe? One of the friends was a very well known tv star and this blind states that Enty was "there" - might be a stretch but I wonder if this is the same guy. I always thought the tv guy in the older blind was Scott Wolfe.
ReplyDeleteI am going back to the Cameron/McCullogh/Perry guess.
ReplyDeleteThey might not have been on the same ep, but it seems like the best fit.
Growing Pains was featured in the the reunion issue of Entertainment Weekly, which Enty has discussed.
Scott Wolfe's show, PoF, was on Fox.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I keep posting. I'm bored at work.
ReplyDeleteIt could possibly be Silver Spoons, because it ended in 1987. Don't forget, Fox Network that we know today, was launched on October 9, 2006. It was a station prior to that and it was called Fox, but it was a nothing station...so yes, it did exist and wasn't a top 4 station.
ReplyDeleteFox Broadcasting was started in 1987, so as it says in the blind, it "did exist."
ReplyDelete@Beth-- I forgot about that movie. I remember now. I'm bored too.
ReplyDelete@crila16 -- Fox launched in 1987 with Married with Children, the Tracey Ullman Show and some other programs that didn't last as long. I've been working in network TV since 1989, that's embedded in my brain.
show - Valerie, before it became Hogan's Family
ReplyDeleteStar - Jason Bateman
fired - Valerie Whatsername
Older gentleman - ?
...and there is absolutely no way that Kirk Cameron is a C+ actor. He doesn't even act anymore. He hasn't done anything since 2008. I think everyone is barking up the wrong tree with Cameron. He married and is still married to the most gorgeous girl who was on that show back then. There are other shows out there that had heart throbs.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThe Cosby Show was a very popular sitcom back in the day. Wasn't there an older sister or something that disappeared or only came back from college for seasonal episodes? (Not Lisa Bonet...) Malcom Jamal??
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not Valerie and Jason Bateman. That's just gross. She's not a little older than him, she's like twice his age. The BV said the actress is a little older. I'm guessing anywhere from 5 - 10 yrs older...which is HUGE if it's a teenage boy.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteNot at all sure, just thinking...
ReplyDelete1. Perfect Strangers
2. Bronson Pinchot
3. Lise Cutter
4. Robin Williams
There is no way that Jason Bateman got Valerie Harper fired from her own show. She did that herself with contract demands.
ReplyDeleteOkay, just to break away from the Kirk Cameron guess ... b/c this pains me to write: Family Ties? Michael J. Fox? He had a massive drug / alcohol problem that never got the attention it would have today. Problem is I think he's much higher than C+ now and doesn't deny he went to AA and sobered up ... Oy. I dunno. Probably Kirk Cameron, the hypocrit. Jason Bateman also had a huge problem and is sober now, but he doesn't deny it, either, and he's higher than C+, too. Family Matters?! Urkel, currently begging everyone to take him seriously? Didn't they swap out the mom on that show?!
ReplyDeleteIt says though that the co-star was B- then, no one would know her name now. Julie McCullough doesn't exactly fit being a B- then, she was a guest star, not a co-star, and had no other credits worthy of B-. And Tracey Gold is a year older than Kirk Cameron, and not "so good looking", so I don't think it's her, along with the fact that KC has in fact spoken to her since the show ended. Does anyone think the "now you wouldn't even know her name" is a Cheers reference. Cheers, Ted Danson,(movie he's off filming is 3 Men and a Baby, 1987) Shelley Long,(B-, had some mainstream H-Wood movies, gone in 1987, replaced by Kirstie Alley). Fox existed in 1987. Now gotta see if there's a guest star who fits.
ReplyDeleteAlf?
ReplyDeleteHee. hee...
Actually, I was thinking Scott Baio, Charles in Charge, something along those lines? But no clue on who all else involved exactly...
Ted Danson was in his 30s when Cheers started and has some credits on his resume (thanks again IMDB), plus he was a very handsome man so I doubt it took that long for the ladies to find him. Shelley Long is also younger.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Urkel was ever A list.
Show: Growing Pains
ReplyDeleteGuest Star: LEO
WKRP in Cincinnati? Wasn't Loni Anderson dating someone younger from the show?
ReplyDelete@Anita, you're right, gotta read more carefully! But it still isn't Kirk Cameron, or worse Fred Savage as a 13 year old coke binger in love with non B- list Olivia d'Abo.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to be convinced it's Cameron, except for the ratings. Julie McCullough's wiki page says he refused to talk to her when they ran into each other. But was she b-? Is he C+? I just don't think so...
ReplyDeleteI'm hung up on the star ratings. I agree KC isn't a C list actor, but star? Maybe. Remember the Blind Item revealed at Christmas (or July 4) that said Kate Winslet was a B list actress? No way is she B-list! We need to make a database of who is A+, A, B+, etc.
ReplyDelete#1 - Cheers
ReplyDelete#2 - Ted Danson
#3 - Shelley Long
#4 - Nicholas Colasanto
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Just a guess - Other than Nick Colasanto who died in 1985, I thought this too, but it was debunked already. If it was Kirk Cameron, Julie McCullough and Matt Perry, the ratings are way off other than Matt Perry, and KC would have had to have had the crush, the addiction, the firing and the meeting of and marrying his eventual wife, Chelsea Noble, all in less than 2 years. Possible I suppose, but also not likely.
ReplyDeleteKirk has made other movies too...Fireproof and the Left Behind movies are two others I can think of.
ReplyDeleteLeo wasn't a guest star. He was a regular during the final season.
ReplyDeleteWKRP (awesome show!) went off the air in the early 80s.
Scott Baio had been on Happy Days before Charles in Charge. Not him.
I think the show is Martin with Tisha Campbell being the co-star fired out of nowhere
ReplyDeleteMartin Lawrence was in Bad Boys with Will Smith in '95
He also was publicly known (arrested) for quite a while with the drugs and guns after
No idea about the rest
Shelley Long quit Cheers to make movies, she was not fired.
ReplyDeleteMcCullough was in Playboy and did a bunch of guest roles. The incident threw her career off the rails.
ReplyDeleteWe may think Kirk Cameron is below C list, but don't forget he still makes money from and has a big following in the Christian community. Not exactly a star power like we normally talk about, but still...
Martin was far too old to start dating and experimenting with the chicas by the time his show started.
ReplyDelete@CB I kinda used to think that was off too, but I kinda agree Kate Winslet is B, B+. Just as Scarlett Johannson is and Kat Heigl is, where Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie are in the A's. That being said, the ratings still don't make sense if this is to be the Growing Pains crew. Even if KC is a C+ now, I just can't see Playboy and guest roles making Julie McCullough a B-.
ReplyDeleteI read the age reference differently. When Enty says she was "a littler older but so good looking," I'm taking it to mean she wasn't particularly young, but still very attractive. Not necessarily older than the actor. Hmm...
ReplyDeleteCan't be Martin - Tisha Campbell did the full run. (And hated Martin Lawrence, because he is one of the worst misogynists ever.
ReplyDeleteCan't be Charles in Charge, because Baio was big before the show.
(Sorry to just give negatives, but I don't have any better guesses. :) )
Female Commuter Parent...Yes the FOX you know today was launched on Oct 9, 2006 and yes, Married with Children was one of it's first sitcoms, but FOX existed prior to Murdock purchasing it and making it a major network. I was called FOX 25 where I lived in boston. BEfore it was a network, it showed shows like Benny Hill and Monty Python...and then went local after a certain time. It did in FACT exist...just wasn't a major network until OCt 9, 2006.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Joey Lawrence? Wasn't he on some shows like Gimme a Break, etc?
ReplyDeleteMy official guess is:
George Clooney
Charlotte Rae
The Facts of Life
special guest star: cousin Gerry
CDANluva: I think you should have added FTW. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI thought of Cheers first, they also had many guest stars, Kirstie Alley replaced Shelley Long, and I think there is a reference with not knowing her name to the Cheers theme song.
ReplyDeleteWoody Harrelson was a regular too. I wonder if this will be a reveal.
the Fonz
ReplyDeletePinky Tuscadero
Mr. C
Happy days
Leather Tuscadero
Enty's comment "but she was so far ahead in the school of life..." instantly made me think of the show "Saved by the Bell". But you guys will have to extrapolate from there, since I never watched the show other than when I was flipping channels ~
ReplyDeleteGood call Whinemaker! Leanna Creel (who played Tori) was only on the first season of Saved by the Bell and is about 4 years older than Mark-Paul Gosselaar. (Tx IMDB)
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking this could be 8 is enough. I cant think of who was fired from the show. Willie Ames fits the star.
ReplyDeleteThere was an actress fired from The Fresh Prince of Belaire. Did he leave the show to shoot a movie?
ReplyDeleteSaved by the bell?
ReplyDeleteMark Paul
Elibeth Berkley
cdanluva's guess IS the best. But...
ReplyDeleteLet's go over the facts:
Very popular sitcom: Growing Pains
A+ star (not actor): Kirk Cameron - he was getting cast in films then
B- co-star: Julie McCullough, if Playboy + Growing Pains = B-. She is 5 years older than Kirk. AND she was abruptly fired.
A List co-star - Leo Di Caprio. (Sorry - I don't consider him "A")
Older male co-star: Alan Thicke
After Julie the "new girlfriend" on the show ended up being his wife, and his life took a 180.
Just my deduction....
Fox was not considered a network (even though it existed) prior to 1987, so we can move beyond that. And it is NOT Kirk Cameron.
ReplyDeleteI immediately thought the same thing as @Eric - sounds like Cheers. However, I remember that it was Shelley Long that supposedly chose to leave to pursue a movie career. Of course, I was pretty young back then, so I believed everything I read in TV Guide.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's Growing Pains. My first guess was Friends, but I can't figure out who the older female co-star would be.
ReplyDeleteI also like the Saved by the Bell guess.
Am I reading IMDB wrong?
ReplyDeleteKirk didn't film a movie at all during the duration of GP
So, if the blind is accurate, not him.
Suhyphen, you are reading IMDB incorrectly.
ReplyDeleteGP was on 85-92. He filmed a bunch of movies between those years.
Mooshki said...
ReplyDeleteCan't be Martin - Tisha Campbell did the full run. (And hated Martin Lawrence, because he is one of the worst misogynists ever.
Um. She "quit" the show.
She ended up coming back, but she was all of a sudden there and then gone.
Saved By the Bell was syndicated....doesn't the blind say it was network?
ReplyDeleteI wanna know why it can't be Kirk Cameron? Someone seems very sure....
What movies Beth? I'm curious.
ReplyDeleteThe only teen TV idol I recall filming movies around that time is MJF with Teen Wolf.
Between him and the Corey's, I must have missed Kirk's big movie debut :)
I'm not sure at all libby
ReplyDeleteI am also not convinced.
subtle, yet important difference
We need a reveal. Bad.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if we've ruled out Saved by the Bell, but going back to Laura's comment about Enty's previous blind, Scott Wolf was a guest star on Saved by the Bell.
ReplyDeleteIf it's Saved By The Bell, then it's Elizabeth Berkley who was fired. Leanna Creel played Tori in the last season (not the first), working as a replacement character for Kelly and Jessie. Plus, Elizabeth Berkley is two years older than Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Tiffini Thiessen and Lark Voorhees are all the same age as Mark-Paul and Mario Lopez, all born in 1974).
ReplyDeleteBut do people really not know Elizabeth Berkley's name today? Also, I find it doubtful that he never talked to her again when there was a well-publicized SBTB reunion on Jimmy Fallon and in People a few years back.
Also, for all the people guessing Growing Pains and Leo for the guest star - does Enty really not consider Leo to be A list?
ReplyDeleteI think the guest star would be Matthew Perry, not Leo. Leo was recurring, Matthew was more of a guest star.
ReplyDeleteI'd also like to know why claudia is so sure it's not Kirk.
But Enty, we need a reveal on this one!
Suhyphen, you looked at Kirk's IMDB page and saw no movies? Um, OK...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.imdb.com/name/nm0131647/
As already noted: Like Father, Like Son (1987)
Listen to Me
The Best of Times (1986)
Listen to Me (1989)
The blind never noted that the movie was a hit.
Enty, please put this in the reveals!
I'm not sure where the October 2006 date for Fox as a network comes from, but I'm pretty sure it was considered a "real network" back when it aired Ally McBeal, and that was well before 2006. I remember Married with children, 21 jump street, Herman's Head and other shows. It wasn't on every night of the week, and it took a while for them to move from only covering 80% of the country to near 100% coverage, but they were Emmy Award eligible back then, so that sounds like a real network to me.
ReplyDeleteThe Fox Network launched October 9, 1986. So this show could be late 1980's early 1990's.
ReplyDeleteKirk Cameron married Chelsea Noble who was John Stamos' leftovers. Kirk's younger sister,Cameron, played DJ on Full House where Kirk never guessed again because of Stamos. Noble guessed (she was never a star) on Full House first where Kirk met her.
Sounds like Kirk Cameron to me.
Valerie Harper/ Jason Batemen
ReplyDeleteThat 70's Show
ReplyDeleteTopher Grace
Lisa Robin Kelly
Dewayne (The Rock) Johnson
What about WINGS? Huge show. Crystal Bernard was a known coke partier. And who would have thought Lowell would get an Oscar nomination and the lead in a Spiderman blockbuster?
ReplyDeleteI think that CB is right!
ReplyDelete1- Growing Pains
2- Kirk Cameron
3- Julie McCullough
4- Matthew Perry
I can't believe this would be Kirk Cameron. He wasn't A+ then. Maybe a middling B while the show was doing well. He's sure not as high as a C now. He's also not ever been a "legendary" drug user. I don't see how this fits him at all.
ReplyDeleteMatthew Perry isn't a current A-lister. He's had too many failures since "Friends." Maybe a current B-.
I read this like the female costar is just a little bit older. Like the male star might be in his older teens, and she might be in her early 20's. If you haven't been around, 18 can be really young. If you've really been around, then 22 cam be damn old!
I am totally drawing a blank on this one. I think because I can't focus so much on the female co-star since the blind says we probably wouldn't even know her name now.
Jennifer, the blind clearly says he was A- back then, not A+. And it said the guest star later became an A lister but is currently a B.
ReplyDeleteThis screams Kirk Cameron, with Enty talking about him recently. And it's gotten so much attention I hope he at least tells us if someone guessed right in the comments!
I thought of Wings too, there was an actress who left kind of abruptly during its run but she was much younger than Tim Daly or that Weber guy.
ReplyDeleteBrad Pitt was on Growing Pains for two episodes, if I'm reading his imdb page right! What other TV did he do? I feel like it's him or Clooney for the A list guest star.
ReplyDeleteI'd say Fox was still a pretty big deal prior to 96' considering it had The Simpsons, BH 90210, Melrose Place, etc. airing and all doing quite well though was not one of the big 3.
ReplyDeleteI think the Growing Pains guess definitely fits. Kirk C. may not seem a A- by today's star standards but he was a pretty big deal in the mid to late 80's - he was the poster boy of every teen magazine. And though it is a joke award, he did win a couple People's Choice awards.
If you read Julie McCullough's wiki profile, she says when she ran into him in later years, he refused to speak to her.
What everyone is neglecting is the big clue Enty is leaving at the beginning. He was there for this happening. Why would he be there? As a child actor?
ReplyDeleteThis is Joey Lawrence, people. Am I the only person who knew this out of the blocks?
ReplyDeleteJoey Lawrence was on Blossom. He's still got name recognition (DWTS) so that makes him C+.
Portia Dawson is about 6 years older than he is and she mysteriously left in the middle of the 93-94 season....
....after David Schwimmer guested.
The end.
Could it be Michael J. Fox, Courtney Cox on Family Ties? Did Michael Keaton ever make a guest appearance on that show?
ReplyDeleteSorry - just reread the blind - not Courtney Cox & MJF! Oops!
ReplyDeleteCould be Family Ties
ReplyDeletehttp://www.imdb.com/name/nm0169480/
Points Beth, Those look like sucky movies though:)
ReplyDeleteHe also mentioned a "legendary" sort of in the media breakdown.
Did I miss that about Kirk as well?
Kate has it right. Read the various imdb and wiki entries and you will see she is correct. Definitely not Kirk, y'all be smoking something
ReplyDelete"Kirk Cameron married Chelsea Noble who was John Stamos' leftovers."
ReplyDeleteEww. Let's avoid this kind of nasty sexism in future, please.
Seriously, do you guys read the blind correctly? It says that the star had a drug problem that was legendary. Kirk was never that. Not even the guy from Blossom. Lawrence may have been the idiot on his show but he never had a drug rep.
ReplyDeleteCheers
ReplyDeleteWoody Harrelson
Shelly Long
How is the word "leftovers" sexist? It can just as easily apply to a male ex as a female ex. There is nothing gender-specific about that term.
ReplyDeleteI think it was legendary in the industry, not to the general public.
ReplyDeleteI am completely convinced this is Kirk Cameron now.
ReplyDeleteFirst time commenter, long time lurker. Although our star had issues with drink and drugs,it was the week long bender that earned the "legendary" tag and not his general partying behaviour. Not a big distinction but an important one IMO if we're trying to say on track. Tough blind.
ReplyDelete-I have to agree with Cara and others to leave out Kirk Cameron as he couldn't be qualified as a C+ actor now. He's more like D+ and maaybe C-...
ReplyDelete-It's not Courtney Cox on Family Ties either, since we all know her now. Ie she's not "B- list then. Now, you probably don't even know her name".
Although I don't expect a reveal, I would love if Enty would come on the comment section sometimes and give small hints.
Btw, Enty I'm following this site since its first day and I'm wondering if you still have time to work as a lawyer in a firm. You used to talk about that, your first-hand experience and it was one of the reason I followed your blog. You no longer do and I'm wondering why.
"Speaking" of Joey Lawrence lol : http://dlisted.com/2011/10/20/pull-joey-lawrences-wax-figure-out-sun-its-melting
ReplyDeleteI still say
ReplyDeleteSilver Spoons - ended in 1987
Ricky Schroder - was A-, now C+
Erin Gray - older but beautiful, was a B, now not really remembered
Jason Bateman - frequent guest star, was unknown prior to Silver Spoons, became and A on TV and now is a solid B
Erin Gray lasted to the end of the Silver Spoons. She wasn't fired.
ReplyDeleteRicky Schroder is a C+? In what universe? He's not even famous enough for vH1.
ReplyDelete#1 Cheers
ReplyDelete#2 Woody Harrelson
#3 Shelly Long
#4 no idea
Kevin James and Leah paleontologist DeMint
ReplyDeleteI think we should pay more attention to the "week long drug and alcohol binge that was legendary for years". Legendary for years. I'm going to spend the day thinking about famous benders and work from there. I don't get the impression this was something only known by industry types.
ReplyDeleteAlso - the math. The star and guest star ages need to be pretty far apart. I'm assuming the star is in his early 20s, but very early 20s, he sounds like a child.
That's my 2 cents. Still have no internet at home. Still checking CDAN before I log into gmail. Priorities! Have a great weekend, everybody, and Enty, please, a clue.
@couriergrrrrl
ReplyDeleteMichael Richards(Kramer)for #4? He was a guest star on Cheers.
full house, john stamos, lori laughlin?
ReplyDelete1-Home Improvement
ReplyDelete2-Tim Allen
3-Pamela Anderson
4-not sure about guest star
Still going with Saved by the Bell. Elizabeth's departure was never explained. Also found info that says Eric Dane guested.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't Joey Lawrence. He was on Gimme a Break in the very early '80s. Blossom was not his first big show.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it could be SBTB - Dustin Diamond aka Screech pretty much ratted out the cast for all sleeping together. MPG dated EB, TAT, and possibly even LV as did Mario Lopez. And despite not being in the public eye much, I think EB will forever be known as the actress from "Showgirls."
ReplyDeleteAlso, People did a feature on the cast about a year ago and with the exception of DD, the entire cast did a photoshoot together. If we are to believe the blind, the actor has never spoken to the actress again. I doubt he'd take a pic with her. Plus, Tiffani left the show at the same time because supposedly both she and Elizabeth wanted to try other projects. Elizabeth did return for the tv movie, which was only a couple years later after the high version ended. Yes, I know way too much about SBTB.
I still think KC is a great guess. His sudden turn to religion and Julie M. actually coming out and saying he shunned her and never spoke to her after she left speaks volumes.
I think:
ReplyDelete1. Woody Harrelson
2. Bebe Newirth or Shelley long
3. John Cleese
If we're going with Kirk Cameron, the to-be A-list "guest star" could be Leonardo DiCaprio (although he is not now "B-list" and he was probably considered a regular on the show).
ReplyDeleteI think I got it!!!!! Okay, here we go:
ReplyDeleteThe show is Welcome Back, Kotter.
The actor is John Travolta.
The actress is Marsha Strassman (she's older than Travolta and nobody knows her name today).
The guest star is James Woods (he guested on the first episode, was basically a nobody at the time).
Snap!
The only problem is that I don't think Marsha Strassman was fired.
Doesn't that assume John Travolta is straight?
ReplyDeleteHa, true, cdanluva.
ReplyDeleteI randomly (really, I swear!) came across this while looking for something else and thought it interesting:

kate was right, joey L is the only guy that fits & he is in the pix of today, oct 21, enty gave it up...
ReplyDeletere-read the blind, it all works & enty was just reading about this actor....kate wins
Joey Lawrence doesn't work. Blossom was not his big break; Gimme a Break was.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I don't think it was Joey Lawrence is that he was a pretty big child star before Blossom (from Gimme a Break and a million little TV movies), whereas this actor hadn't done much before the long-running hit show.
ReplyDeleteI think a big clue is that it has to be someone who Enty would be reading about now, and who has a hypocritically squeaky clean reputation now, ignoring these early coke days. Which disqualifies folks like Kelsey Grammer and Woody Harrelson.
joey wasn't a big child star before blossom, & he was just coming into his own on that show...publicity wise & sexuality...reading comprehension folks, re-read the blind slowly & insert all the characters to see if they fit. try to fit all the other guesses into the slots...doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteFamilies Family Ties and Michael J. Fox and Courtney Cox?
ReplyDeleteI think she was older and ended up hooking up with Michael Keaton.
Wow, the star sure sounds like Matthew Perry. Friends began in 1994, and he started getting weirdly skinny around season 3. Late 90s he started doing movies in addition to the show. He had some crazy meltdowns that should have gotten a lot more press.
ReplyDeleteThis is from 2001: Matthew Perry launched into a suicidal binge of wild drinking and drug taking -- spending as much as $1,000 a day: http://www.nationalenquirer.com/celebrity/matt-perrys-sad-drug-hell
One of his open letters to Friends cast, during 3rd stint in rehab: http://www.plaintivewail.com/pw/feb01/2_27_01.html
Strangely enough, there was an article out in every paper this week about him putting his home on the market.
Sandman was the first to post here that Joey was in the photos today. Ding ding, winner winner chicken dinner. There is no way enty just randomly threw in Joey in the randoms the very next day....
ReplyDelete@bob ross and @Upside Downunder
ReplyDelete.....but who would be the older actress that was fired from Friends? the blind basically says the actress was a regular on the show, and well known at the time.
