Today's Blind Items

This married, aging A++ list director is one of the best known directors in the world. Everyone knows him. What they might not know is that he has been having an affair with an A list actress within her own country but probably a C list outside. The affair has spanned almost 20 years and while it used to be all about the sex and passion and may have even led to a child. Maybe the child is her husband's and maybe it is our director's child. In any event as out director has aged and the actress has gained much more international fame, the affair has evolved into more friendship then sex. Although, you know, it still does happen.

  1. A++? Steven Spielberg?

  2. Martin Scorsese? He's A+++ to me.

  3. Warren Beatty and Catherine Deneauve?

  4. Beatty is a director?

  5. About 20 years ago, Francis Ford Coppola directed Monica Bellucci in a bit role in Bram Stoker's Dracula. Could be them.

  6. A++ Directors:

    Spielberg
    Scorsese
    Lucas
    Eastwood
    Cameron (?)

    Who else?

  7. My first thought was Eastwood but would he have written director/actor or is that too obvious for the blind.
    Spielberg maybe then.

  8. A++ and world renown leads me to believe Spielberg, Ron Howard, Oliver Stone, James Cameron, Scorcese, Coppola, now which of these can it be????

    ReplyDelete
  9. I like Coppola, but I would say he's more A, or even A+, not A++ like Spielberg, Cameron, and Scorsese.

  10. I thought Lucas but he is not married, I believe he is still dating the pretty sistah who does the Financial report on GMA Melody something or other

  11. Good guess Dana! She has two girls too born 2004 and 2010.

  12. Mike Nichols, as an alternative

  13. This is what I came up with:

    Steven Spielberg

Caroline Goodall, who was in both "Hook" (1991) and Schindler's List (1993). Both movies were directed by Spielberg.

She is British, and has 2 children. Not sure of their ages. All of this from IMDB.

  14. I think it's either Scorcese or Spielberg, possibly Coppola, but for some reason I just don't think so. Would you describe James Cameron, Ron Howard or Oliver Stone as "aging"? Ron Howard and Oliver Stone are A++ here (well Howard still is anyway), but how popular are they worldwide, compared to Spielberg and Scorcese? Also, at least for me, despite his great recent work, I still think of Clint Eastwood as actor first, or at least actor/director.

  15. Momster - nice find! Would surely put Spielberg in the running.

As for Oliver Stone, I would definitely put him in the 'aging' category. And not aging well at all. And not A++ either.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @ Rita: I guess he is aging, but yes, the main thing is Stone is not A++.

For the Coppola/Bellucci guess, which is a good one, I see she is married to Vincent Cassel, which probably would have had some mention if it were her, don't you think? Scorsese I see has been married 5 times, so maybe him having an affair wouldn't be a shocker. I think it's Spielberg.

My first guess was Spielberg, then I read & liked the Ron Howard guess, however @Dana just might be right on the money with her guess.

  18. @Montana Marriott - actually, Ron Howard is the last person you'd expect to do this, which puts him at the top of my list now instead of Scorsese.

Although, I can totally see Eastwood doing this.

  19. @spacecowboy: ...'Maybe the child is her husband's...'

Clearly means the actress is married with children, one of the children may, or may not be from the director. Without the husband's knowledge.

As for Bellucci, a few months ago she came out saying honestly that you cannot expect fidelity from a man like Vincent Cassel. Maybe she expects it to work both ways.

  20. Spielberg came immediately to mind, but I love the Beatty guess.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think it's definitely Spielerg. He's probably the most well-known director with the largest number of classic, well-known and loved movies under his belt. ET, Close Encounters, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Poltergeist, Gremlins, Back to the Future, Schindler's List, etc. followed by Scorsese, Cameron and Coppola.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Beatty is a director? I totally forgot. I still think of him as more of an actor.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Scorcese, Speilberg, or Coppola for this one. All 3 could be good for it, for the reasons stated here. :)

  24. cameron and winslett. Titanic.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I immediately thought Spielberg but I have noticed that Dana is very good at blind items so I'll go with hers. :)

  26. Isn't this how Spielberg found wifeypoo number 2??

    ReplyDelete
  27. Cookie, the affair has lasted 20 years.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't think it could be Polanski. ENt hates him enough to just make it utterly obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pedophanski cannot be A++. Lost a lot of feathers in the past 2 decades.

I like the Spielberg guess on this one. He already has a bunch of children.

    ReplyDelete
  31. To be different Woody Allen and Helena Bonham Carter

    ReplyDelete
  32. I thought Spielberg, too.

Embeth Davidtz was in Schindler's List and even tho she was born in the US, she grew up in South Africa. Married, two kids: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001110/bio

    ReplyDelete
  33. Caroline Goodall, British, also in Schindler's List, married two kids: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0328751/bio

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ooooh, Caroline Goodall was also in Hook! Which came out 20 years ago!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Woody Allen and Judy Davis have worked together often.

  37. "Doesn't always live with her husband Vincent Cassel, for avoiding routine, the two live in separate apartments; she lives most of the time in London and he lives in Paris."

    from IMDB, on Monica Belluci

  38. This one is old as the day is long. Mel Gibson/Sophie Marceau. While filming Braveheart it was rumored Gibson was seducing Marceau. 9 months later, Sophie has a baby. Even though the boy is a carbon copy of his father, Andre Zulawski, the rumors persist. It was believed that she got the role for Anna Karenina because of Mel.

  39. I'm with Tipsy. Another recycled blind.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't think it's Mel, because he's equally well known as an actor, plus even though he's American-born, he's considered Australian and the blind makes it sound like the director is American. Besides, the relationship is continuing and it doesn't sound like Mel's had that long a relationship outside his ex-wife.

I'm sticking with my Spielberg/Caroline Goodell guess!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree that Enty would have specified that this was also an actor if it was Mel, and I wouldn't say he's one of the best known "directors" in the world.

Coppola came to mind first, and love Dana's guess of Bellucci. I'm on that train.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think Monica was the subject of a blind recently (she was the best guess) about having a husband AND a boyfriend, and saying that it wasn't that uncommon or weird... something like that, I can't think of the exact wording at the moment.

I've also noticed that Dana seems to be right a lot!

My internet got shut off a week ago and I'm jonesing. At a friend's house now. Do I check my email first? NOOOOO, I go straight to CDAN. Oy.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm not disagreeing, just noticed that most (not all) of the directors being submitted are american.

I see the actress sounds like she is from another country, maybe that makes the director seem american.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I don't think I'm right but I thought about Penelope Cruz and Pedro Almodovar initially.

    ReplyDelete
  45. NOT Coppola/Belucci.

Coppola had at least one known affair (with Colleen Camp, during the shooting of Apocalypse Now) but he's quite a prude and the sex scene in Dracula were actually directed on set by his son Roman.

If you have read Peter Biskind's book on Holllywood during the 70's, you'll see that Spielberg was also some kind of naive guy regarding sex, that actresses such as Margot Kidder and Amy Irving basically took him his virginity, and that he has always been pussy-whipped.

My guess would be Martin Scorsese.
Scorsese can now basically get any project green lit by a major studio since he got the Oscar for The Departed (which would basically the definition of A list for a director), while Coppola went indie.
He has a history of affairs with actresses: Liza Minnelli, Isabella Rossellini, Illeana Douglas (most of them with well-known relatives), while Spielberg would be a boy-scout in that regard.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Spielberg had an ongoing affair with Kate Capshaw while married to Amy Irving. A friend of a friend was one of his assistants during that time. So don't think Stevie was that much of a Boy Scout.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anonymous5:52 PM

    Robert Redford FTW...????

    ReplyDelete
  48. Scorsese was married to Isabella Rossellini in the early 80s. It might be him, but not with her.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Pedro Almodovar and Penelope Cruz? Though I don't know if she's C list

    ReplyDelete
  50. Almodovar is more likely to be having an affair with Javier than Pene. He's gay.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I've known a few guys who were gay but not openly who had children with their wives back in the 80's.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Almodovar is openly gay.

I think this is Bellucci and Coppola. Everything fits.

People keep referencing Spielberg and Goodall. She's actually more successful in the US than UK. They don't fit.
