Selena Gomez is hosting the MTV Video Music Awards - Europe and shot a promo for it that will definitely make you realize she is no longer the sweet young Disney kid any longer.
The whole thing was just ... odd. It seemed overly long. A minute & a half for a song about Selena Gomez? Congratulating herself for getting a job hosting a show nobody watches? Mmmkay.
Until there is a sex video or she starts sexting pictures and someone "breaks into her phone" and posts them online...this is nothing. It could be far worse. She's adorable still.
Sigh. My fiance is 9 years younger than I am (I know I know...) and we were on a road trip this past summer when an Eagle Eye Cherry song came on the radio, and I told him Eagle Eye was Neneh Cherry's brother.
Him: "Who?" Me: "Neneh Cherry! You know....Buffalo Stance? Him: "What?" Me: "Oh my god, seriously?" (sings almost the entire song from the very beginning) Him: *blank stare* Me: That shit ain't right.
what the eff are you two talking about? Whats Buffalo Stance? *blank stare*
But yeah, I think this came about cause Selena did a Nikki Minaj impromptu rap of SuperBass on tv and it was surprisingly not that bad and so they prob wanted her to do it again- this time in chola gear.
But yeah, her cute (but weird) permenant little girl face could never make this slutty or bad girl or whatever the goal was here.
Thats why her and Beiber mesh so well- its like two cabbage patch dolls skipping along the cabbage patch field or some shit.
I don't think this was her attempt at being edgy or trying to transition to an adult. I think it was intentionally meant to be campy and cheesy and play against who Selena is in real life: sweet, humble, and grounded. I think the whole "Congratulations to me" is supposed to play on her real life humbleness and the whole "chola" alter-ego is supposed to play against her good-girl, clean-cut image. Both characters in this video are two people she definitely is not and probably never will be. In short, she is making fun of herself. When the show airs, expect to see more "characters" that are the antithesis of her actual persona.
my girls are fans of hers. on her show (something about wizards) she plays a girl who really doesn't care about rules and tries to get away with doing as little as possible in school and at home. but she's nice and well intended.
i like that she has done well because she has (so far) behaved. she was so bullied in school that she begged her mom to take her out of it. the girls teased her because she was on barney. so to me, the fact that all the little snots who were mean to her get to see her dating their #1 and doing shows like this; makes me happy.
Oh. Um...
ReplyDeleteWell then.
She still looks like a little girl. Trying waaaay too hard. This was embarassing.
ReplyDeletethese Disney kids need to learn moderation. I get wanting to transition to an adult. But do they have to jump on the pole so hard?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure my Mormon sister will be THRILLED to know her tweener daughter is a Selena fan after seeing this.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Patty, she is definitely trying way too hard.

ReplyDeleteIt's ironic--the bad girl persona was wearing far more clothes than the good Selena.
ReplyDeleteHave pedophile pervs taken over MTV?
ReplyDeletei dont think its bad at all...dumb, but not overly skanky or anything.

ReplyDeleteThis video is weird.
ReplyDeleteHer "chola" alter ego reminded me of Neneh Cherry for some reason.
ReplyDeleteNeneh Cherry!! LMAO!!
ReplyDelete*Does the Cabbage Patch to Buffalo Stance*
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought about that song in years!
I kind of like how she speaks, she's not all giggly and high pitched, it surprised me.

I thought she was cute. This is a tough transition fort any woman, let alone a famous one. She is doing better than most. I wish her luck :)
