Moammar Gadhafi Is Dead

Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, the most wanted man in the world, has been killed, the country's rebel government claimed today. The tyrant who terrorized his country and much of the world during his 42 years of despotic rule was cornered by insurgents in the town of Sirte, where Gadhafi had been born and a stronghold of his supporters.

What a great way to start the day! I am happy for the citizens of Libya. I hope and pray they get the government that they have been dreaming about all of these years. : )

  2. Wow, great ! When I read about his capture this morning they said he had been shot in both legs, this is way better...no trial.

  3. I'll never forget being a little kid, sneaking up past my bedtime and overhearing a newscaster talk about the threat of Qaddafi, some 25 years ago. I think that's when I first learned and understood what death was and that this guy wanted to kill us. In short, he terrified me.

The Arab spring has done some amazing and world changing things, I'm elated at Libya's liberation!!

  4. I heard they killed him when he was hiding in a ditch. So long as the people of Libya are happy than so am I.

  5. Hope it was a painful death - my support is for the victims of Lockerbee (sp?)

Hope you're right about it being beter for the Libyan people - I've heard there are some repressive people looking to take over and reinstate poor treatment of women, etc.

That's the problem when situations like this happen. Yeah, he's dead, but who is coming up behind him? If it's someone just as bad it kind of seems pointless, non?

edit - beter = better. Need more caffeine!

  8. Honestly, like anyone thought he'd be alive to stand trial?

Here's hoping that the people get a voice in Libya, and that it isn't subverted by Gadhafi 2.0

  10. The world is well rid of him.

I find it funny that while all this drama is going on my local Fox morning news was running the story of a dog that can play fetch with itself. ʚ(°.°)ɞ

Did you all see the video where they stripped him naked and dragged and kicked his body around? I'm squeamish, but that didn't bother me a bit. From what I've read, he was wounded in both legs and hiding in a drainage pipe and one of the rebels shot him with a golden pistol. It just seems right for him to have that end.

  12. @ Sherry, how did you make that emote? I don't mean to derail the thread, but it's darn cute.

  13. I would of liked to see him at the Hauge courts for crimes against humanity.

    But this works too.

  14. End of an era. I, too, remember learning at a young age what a monster Gadhaffi is. Best of luck to the people of Libya going forward.

  19. @Syko: Not only shot with a golden pistol, I heard he was shot with his own golden pistol. Irony! (Shooting irony, that is.)

  20. I saw a heartbreaking story about a woman who had been tortured by Gaddafi's daughter-in-law. The woman had been starved, treated like a slave, beaten and had boiling water throw on her. The woman had lost most of her hair, had festering sores and burns on her head and face and was denied medical treatment. All this took place in one of the Gaddafi lavish homes.

I don't want to wish anyone dead, but I hope Aline Gaddafi spends the rest of her miserable life hiding in a squalid slum.
