Hugh Jackman Turned Down James Bond

Imagine in Casino Royale if it was Hugh Jackman coming out of the ocean in those blue trunks instead of Daniel Craig. It almost happened. Hugh Jackman was offered the role of James Bond but turned it down because he was involved in the whole X-Men franchise and also working on the separate Wolverine movie and did not want to be in two franchises at the same time. I can understand that, but they are also two completely different kinds of characters and I think he would have done a great job. That being said, I think with Daniel Craig in the role for at least one more movie what you get is someone who looks completely different than all the past actors to play the role. You also have a person who is a little darker and takes it away from the campiness that has really been a mainstay for the past 30 years. With other actors, it always felt like it was cartoon violence. With Daniel Craig there is a grittiness and I am not sure Hugh would have brought that same grittiness. I think it would have been more of a continuation of Pierce Brosnan.

  1. Anything that hot man Hugh is in, I am there. ; ) Daniel is a delicious looking blonde, but I have a thing for tall, dark and handsome. Pierce is my I get a pass from my husband if the opportunity was ever there....

  5. @Bnl1016, I hate to hear that. I'm with @bluebonnetmom on the "Pierce 4eva" train. :)

Pierce is the Bond you want to walk into a party with. Daniel Craig is the Bond you want to, uh, get to know in the coat room.

  7. I've been hearing rumours that Idris Elba (yum!) is under consideration for the next Bond. How awesome would that be?? Hot, black Bond!

  8. I'll take the caboose of the Pierce train. I've watched Thomas Crown Affair a jillion times. Even Mamma Mia didn't scare me away.

Daniel Craig was never James Bond for me. He's okay looking, but I've never been giddy.

Hugh definitely could have pulled it off.

  10. I don't find Daniel Craig at all attractive, so obviously, looks wise Hugh would have been better, but I get what you are saying about the grittiness of the character.

I think the last Bond movie I watched was Thomas Crown Affair, so I don't really care either way.

  14. The first Bond movie I ever loved was Casino Royale, because of the grittiness and Daniel Craig. However, I'd love to see Hugh doing it too. (double entendre intended)

  17. I loved that Daniel Craig played a more serious Bond. I hated the campiness of it because it was just too much. Roger Moore was AWFUL. However, I think Casino Royale was written in a much more serious vein, and the "jokes" were kind of slipped in, which made them more fun. I think Hugh would have done a terrific job, but I love Daniel Craig in the role.

  18. Didn't the "Bond People" also want Hugh not to do Broadway anymore???
I would go to movies just to see Hugh make funny faces at the camera for an hour and a half. He is VERY lickable. ;)

  19. I like Daniel. Hugh does not do it for me. He always seems to be acting, what we see of his "off" moments too.

  30. Well, thank goodness for small favors.

I love Hugh Jackman and think he is really talented and attractive. But he isn't hot the way Daniel Craig is. Smoking hot.

  31. I am a huge fan of Ian Fleming's books and I would love to see them start the series over again and make the films as the books are written.

Um, Califblondy, I think that has a meaning you might not know it has, lol.

  33. @Astrid: Hear, hear!
FWIW: Ian Fleming said that when he wrote the books, he had Hoagy Carmichael in mind as the physical model for James Bond.
