Fifteen People Huh?

Earlier this week you might have seen this photo of Kirk Cameron celebrating his 41st birthday at a ministry close to Los Angeles. Anyway, the photo went viral because it just looks like a very sad way to spend your birthday. Turns out the ministry says there were about 15 people behind the photographer. Uh huh. Lets look at the cake and the spread from Subway. You think that is truly going to feed 15 people. Look, I know I eat a lot. I eat way more than an average person. I realize this. However, I want you to know that I could eat that amount of Subway. It appears to be 3 foot long sandwiches. How on earth is that going to feed 15 people? I realize this is a ministry, but I don't think the whole fish and loaves thing applies to foot longs from Subway and a cake from Ralph's. I also think they were trying to make it seem like way more people were present, when actually, this photo is probably pretty accurate.

That's sad. The women seem really excited to be there, too.

  3. Well, when you exclude gay people, it's pretty unlikely you'll have a fabulous party. Homophobia has it's price.

  6. I don't see the big deal about this photo. He's at his workplace, not his home or a restaurant. I've seen birthdays at my workplaces that looked about that simple and sparse, and they weren't a ministry (which I'm sure prefers to keep things simple and focus on the work). This all seems like a huge deal about nothing to me.

  7. I'm with FS on this. Looks like a standard office party to me and that means people wander in, say hello, nibble and get back to work. Besides, I had about 10-15 people at my last bday party (if you exclude all the other people at the bar) and I had a great time.

  8. Yeah, it looks like a typical office thing. So what?

I would be more miffed if this ministry had thrown some extravagant affair and taken money away from those who really needed help.

  10. I don't get the big deal either. Is this intended to make us point and laugh and say haha he cant get anyone to come to his birthday party? This was a work event, no? I get a birthday card from my daughter every year, no cake, no subway sandwiches, no photographer. Looks pretty nice there to me, tbh.

  13. that looks like one of those cakes from KFC, and they are NASTY! but maybe there was some good chicken-y yumminess hiding somewhere near those 15 people!

  14. I'm with FS and Cecilia. It's a work place party. And it's a ministry, so money should not be wasted on a big party.

  16. Jeez, sounds like some of you work at some pretty awful places.

The way the women look is even more depressing than the lack of people/food. They are not happy to be there.

  17. i have never seen a cake from KFC. was thinking it looks like one of thise crazy expensive cakes that cost a like $40 and is so rich that a teeny-tiny piece is what you serve. that size would serve 12-15. you guys have seen those, right? and being that no one ever buys me a cake (mom take care of that on her b-day at every house i know) it looks pretty good.

  20. It kind of looks as if the office workers bought the food and cake for Kirk. They probably don't earn much working at a ministry and this was what they could afford. I don't even see why this is a story.

  21. It;s my birthday next weekend, I'm having five of my closes girlfriends round to my house then we are hitting the town.
Does this make me sad and boring and deserved to be laughed at?
    I don't think so!
Why should anyone make a big deal about their birthday if they don't want to?

  22. I'd rather see something like this than one of those ridiculous parties "celebrities" are paid to have in Vegas nightclubs.

  23. Oh, Jasmine, I don't think Cameron needs to suck a million dicks, or whatever that comment was. As a man, I would like to speak out against unmotivated, unskilled blowjobs everywhere. They're the worst. The crash of expectations when you realize that someone is phoning it in is horrific. Besides, those footlongs would probably be better used by people who really want them. Scarce resources call for wise use.

  24. As others have mentioned, this looks like a typical workplace birthday "party". I do find it interesting though that someone felt the need to circulate this photo (not just here, I have seen it on several gossip sites) and imply that this guy is a loser with no friends. I'm not sure what the point is supposed to be.

  26. Who put this pic online? It's horrible. There were at least 4 people there though. The 2 girls in the pic, Cameron and the photographer. Maybe it was just a little gathering at the church with church friends...and then someone took him out for a birthday dinner later that night and his outside of church friends were there. Besides, it's not a big birthday anyway...it's a 41st, not a 40th. You don't have to go crazy every year with your birthday.

  28. I don't agree with this guy, but I'm not going to mock him for having 1) a crappy birthday or 2) a modest birthday.

  29. I think the funniest thing about this pic is the expression of the two women. They look just dead inside.

  30. Now THIS is an atheists nightmare. I don't care for Kirk Cameron because he is one of those obnoxious, judgy evangelicals that make you want to run from any room they're in - they're no fun at all. And apparently neither are their birthday parties. If your work party is even close to this, you work in HELL and not the good kind where Jim Morrison and Hunter S Thompson are hanging out. I do work in hell, and even our daily snack table spread is more exciting than this. Maybe someone should've brought in bananas:
