Fatal Attraction Reunion
Entertainment Weekly has been reuniting some great casts from great movies and television shows and I really enjoy seeing them all. One of their reunions is Fatal Attraction, and Glenn Close and Michael Douglas sat down for photos and an interview with EW. When reading what they had to say I get the feeling that as great as Glenn Close is an actress that greatness comes with some drama. Apparently it took a lot of convincing for her to agree to change the original ending of the movie where she tries to frame Michael Douglas for murder by killing herself. Audiences hated it and it took Michael awhile to convince Glenn to do it. She also feels that giving her a knife in the movie was a sell out and that it somehow cheapens the character. I don't know about you, but I thought it fit right in with her character just fine. The whole movie it built up to that. I have no problems at all with her like that. Glenn says she does not feel her character would do that. I disagree. Still love you Glenn.
Thank you for weekend blogging, Enty.
ReplyDeleteShe was right. Original ending avoided that awful sexist catfight. Without it, audiences wouldn't have screamed 'Kill the bitch!', and other nasty misogynist comments. It was added by male studio execs wanting to provoke exactly that.
ReplyDeleteso she'd boil a rabbit alive and kidnap a child, but going after her rival with a knife is too much?
ReplyDeletei liked the movie just the way it was. it was great. he's downstairs, can't hear the screams over the teapot, etc. it worked for me!
great movie..do they make them like this anymore?

ReplyDeleteThat was one bad perm. (I think I had the same style in the 80's).
ReplyDeleteThe first picture scares me! haha
ReplyDeleteAnd this movie is so fucking sexist I cant even deal with it. Did you know they werent going to kill her originally but when they test screened her death people got excited and shouted out stuff like 'kill the bitch'.
I still remember feeling so sorry for her :/
omg Lollydarling!!!! I JUST read your comment after writing mine and all I gots to say is JINX!
ReplyDeleteI owe you a coke.
Thanks for the Saturday blogging Enty; quite the unexpected treat!
ReplyDelete"Fatal Attraction" was great as it was; haven't seen anything as creepy/scary in a long time. Great cast; I bet Anne Archer still looks really good too.
The rest of the pictures are great. Cary Elwes is yummy.
ReplyDeleteLove the bunny here, though!
I was never a fan of the movie. I thought Michael Douglas' character should have been the one shot. He was the major douche for doing what he did to his wife AND the other woman. It was a sexist piece of crap movie/message.
ReplyDeleteI do get the feeling Michael Douglas and Glen Close genuinely like each other though and next year marks 25 years since this movie AND Wall Street.
Gotta disagree with Enty about Glenn Close bringing some sort of drama to the production. Sure there are script changes during shooting, but completely changing the ending was probably not something Glenn signed up for. And actually, her killing herself and framing Micheal is EXACTLY the sort of thing Alex Forrest would have done. For all of the characters freakish behaviour, none of her actions were violent towards another person (bunnies don't count. Sorry). So for Alex to somehow end up in the country barefoot with a knife trying to kill Dan's wife doesn't really fit.
ReplyDeleteAnd count me in as one of the people who actually felt sorry for her. The "I won't be IGNORED Dan" line sums up her character pretty well. She was used by a man for cheap thrills while the wife was away, and then cast aside.
I loved Glenn Close in The Shield-- but I preferred Sean Young in Fatal Instinct.
ReplyDeleteThe original script had it be a straight forward man cheats on wife and the consequences of that. Not all the psycho stuff that went on. The original ending had his wife picking up the phone with Alex on the other end telling her about the affair. Then it got turned into psychotic woman after affair ends. I also think Michael Douglas' character deserved far worse.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the weekend blogs Enty!
I really like this movie, and I feel sorry for her character too...I was hoping she would kill Dan in the end. Or that she and the wife would get together and do it.
ReplyDeleteI can't even express in words how much I love the top picture with the rabbit.
Hah, Jasmine! Too funny! And glad that Henriette and Basil and feraltart all agree with us too...
ReplyDeleteI forgot her character boiled a live rabbit. I don't know...not much sympathy for her there. :)
ReplyDeleteThis movie really scared the shit out of me, along with The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.
I thought the movie was perfect just the way it was. Sorry Glenn.
ReplyDeleteGreat movie. I thought it was a cautionary tale for men "Don't Cheat."
ReplyDeleteThey both did some good acting there.
