Donald Lapre was scheduled to go to trial on Tuesday after being charged with 41 counts of conspiracy, and about four other crimes. With the way it would have worked he probably would have got like 5 years in jail for defrauding 220,000 people of about $52 million. This is the way it goes. Instead, on Sunday morning he was found dead in his prison cell, apparently a suicide.
Although Lapre sold some shady things in the past, the one which landed him in jail he called the greatest vitamin in the world and had people try and sell them online.
Never heard of this guy, but I *have* noticed a huge increase of suicide stories on this site. Do not like.
ReplyDeleteCoward!
ReplyDeleteI remember some of those infomercials. I think he started with "get rich quick through real estate." or something like that.
ReplyDeleteRQ, he was all over US television selling stuff - real estate schemes, multi level marketing, whatever. Infomercials at all hours of the day. The biggest fraud in the US is that natural cures guy. Should have been him in that cell.
ReplyDeleteSeriously @rocketqueen...it's what's keeping me away most of the time. Too many sad stories. I have Gawker for that, thanks!
ReplyDeletei read about this in a "tiny little ad"
