Disney Wanted To Fire Johnny Depp
When Disney executives first started watching dailies from Pirates Of The Caribbean they really considered firing Johnny Depp. I an interview with Larry King, who is going to live longer than Mr. Burns, Johnny says the executives could not understand his character or what he was saying and seriously talked about firing him and at the least subtitling his dialogue so people would be able to understand what he was saying.
"They couldn't understand what I was doing. You know? To the point where Disney wanted to - wanted to fire me. They didn't understand the character. They were actually contemplating subtitling the film."
Obviously Disney got over it and the movies have made billions of dollars and Johnny a very rich guy. He also says in the interview that he is still not used to fame and wishes that he had a normal life sometimes. I am sure he does, but you know what, that is the trade off you made for the millions of dollars. No one made you be in the Pirates movies or make movies at all.
So many Hollywood execs (or any big-corporation execs) are out of touch with the real world. And these are the people making big decisions! SMH.
ReplyDeleteWell it just goes to show you what caliber folks are at Disney that they could EVER doubt the power of a well-established Depp at that point in time.
ReplyDeleteDepp told this story before and he strongly hinted that the Disney execs didn't like the way he played the Pirate as seemingly gay, or overly feminine.
ReplyDeleteand yet Disney have given us the trainwrecks that are Britney, Christina, Miley, Justin , Demi etc..so yah Whatev's Disney whatevs
ReplyDeleteit's not a news! Depp always says Disney's executives disliked his Jack Sparrow but Disney's then-boss loved his Sparrow
ReplyDeleteOh whatever. Nothing like an A-list actor telling a self-depricating story, so believable.
ReplyDeleteI wish he'd stop wearing those ridiculous glasses.
I think he's a full of shit sellout, so whatever. and I still despise him for supporting Polanski.
ReplyDelete...and he also was nominated for best actor for his character.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the attacking of celebrities for saying they sometimes wish they had a normal life. They doesn't mean they do not appreciate what they have, nor does it mean that they do not understand they consciously chose the profession with which potentionally comes the fame. They are saying that sometimes they miss or wish they had a different existence - SOMETIMES. Isn't that normal? Don't we all? I know I have a good life, and I wouldn't trade my kids for ANYTHING, but that doesn't mean that there are days I miss being younger, single and less encumbered, though would never, ever give up what I have to go back. I just go in the laundry, lock the door, let out a primal scream, after making sure the window is closed, and then count to ten, while breathing slowly, before straightening my crumpled shirt and returning to the zoo that is the rest of my house. Pick your battles, Enty - this post just sounds so catty ... the only ones who have no right to say this are realty stars, who ONLY do it for the paps and attention. I wouldn't want the attention of Britney or Brad / Angelina or George, etc. ever. That's got to be miserable, esp if you are a private person by nature.
ReplyDeleteAre people who choose to become Hollywood actors ever "private...by nature"??
ReplyDeleteI love the Pirate movies!
ReplyDeleteI thought Larry King retired...??
ReplyDeleteI don't see what he's saying is that big a deal? Just another actor saying they took a role in another direction. In his case, it paid off.
