Bethenny Frankel Has A $112M Lie

This is just not turning out to be a good week for Bethenny Frankel at all. First there was the whole lying about being lost at sea, and then there was her mom saying that Bethenny would divorce her husband as soon as she could. Now, it turns out that the $120M Bethenny claimed she made from the sale of her Skinnygirl franchise is not true. At all. According to SEC papers filed by the company that bought Skinnygirl and makes my favorite bourbon, their total purchase price including tax and a free car wash was about $8M. How someone turns $8M into thinking they are getting $120M is beyond me. When you figure all the people that also had a stake in Skinnygirl, I wonder how much Bethenny really ended up with. No wonder why she is so desperate to keep her show on the air with the lost at sea stunts.

  1. It's probably still more than I make in 10 years. She did good!

  2. I don't think Bethenny ever said how much it was. From what I remember (and NYC is the only housewives franchise I pay attention to) it was Ramona! that said it was "rumored" to be 120M. And I think the press just ran with that number.

And if the press is running stories that you made 120M why bother correcting them? Because at the time it was a HUGE "in your face" to the other housewives that bagged on BF all the time.

And I don't think Ramona or Jill will come close to even the 8M with their pinots or rip off spanx.

  3. How long till we find out that she is a "chef" with an eating disorder who would never actually eat anything she makes.

  4. Eight million dollars is nothing to sneeze at. And she doesn't seem like the kind of girl to waste her money. And I wouldn't be surprised if either someone made a joke about being lost at sea and it got spun out of control, or a publicist told her it would make good copy to "elaborate" on her sea excursion. I like her, but she needs to take a step back.

    Actually, I realized I don't care.

  5. Yawn, another one I don't care about and won't react to any more until she does something interesting or important.

  7. I think you're right Bnl. Smart of her not to correct it. I think she is pretty savvy businesswise but annoying nonetheless.

  10. I've hated this trick since she was on the Martha Stewart Apprentice (yes, I watched it. *sigh*). Let's move on to the next publicity whore.

  11. Bnl is correct. bethenny never claimed it was that much or said any amount. ramona and her big mouth are responsible for that figure ever being out there---not bethenny.

  12. I am not a big Bethenny fan. While she was at times a human character on the Housewives show, her psychological issues are too great. She radiates a broken little girl's psyche, and I don't think the prognosis for her to get beyond that is good. In fact, I think she is probably deteriorating. The narcissism of being "on camera" empowered the worst parts of her fragile psyche. She's a goner.

  13. I don't want to get into any fights with Jill-haters, but the Zarins don't have 8 million dollars? Really?

  14. @Barton

The Zarins must have some cash. Their apartment is worth at least a million, non? I think I remember Bravo putting a price on it on the first episode of the first season. I know Luann's townhouse was over 10 million. And they have the textile store, and the Hamptons mansion. I'm not fan of Jill, but they must have some scratch. This isn't Atlanta after all ;)

  15. @Barton - I agree that the zarin's have money and plenty of it. I'm not a Jill hater at all. I am neutral with these two for the most part, but I don't think Jill's Skweeze line will ever be worth what the Skinny Girl line is. People ate that Skinny Girl shit up. And the Sangria is flying off shelves the just as fast. So just as far as their personal product endeavors go I think Bethenny will always be one up in that category.

  16. ^I haven't tried the bottled sangria yet but the regular recipe is yummy. I didn't like the margarita.

I don't recall BF ever saying how much she sold it for either. $120mil seems unbelievably high anyway.

  17. I still like Bethenny. Just when I'm ready t write her off, she says something hilarious.

@Sue Ellen - I think Jill's Hampton mansion was rented.
