I found out last night that the older brother of a childhood friend of mine died that day in the attack. I just watched him read his brother's name at the memorial, I haven't seen him since high school, but I recognized his voice immediately (alot less hair). 10 years later and it continues to hit home more and more.
ReplyDeleteMy b-day falls on 9/11. My favorite city is NY and happened to go there for my b-day the weekend before. We stayed in the Marriott (building #3) of the WTC. I feel fortunate to have seen it in it's final days. What still haunts me are the whistles that we would hear watching the news. I can only imagine what the people of NYC went through hearing them knowing it was a fallen hero. Today is a reminder to pray for all who perished on that day in the twin towers, on the flights, and in the Pentagon. All are remembered and not forgotten.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in NY, and the Twin Towers were completed when I was a little kid. I still get angry when I fly to NY for a visit and see the skyline. It looks WRONG. Just WRONG.

I give thanks for CDaN and all of you for adding compassion, smarts, humor and humanity to my days. With so much darkness in the world, CDaN and our community are bright lights!
ReplyDeleteToday my thoughts are with the first responders and the minimum wage clean-up crews who spent so much time at Ground Zero in the weeks and months afterward. So many of them are ill and don't have the assistance/benefits to get the health care they need. I am sorry for their prolonged suffering, and for the many that we have lost in the last ten years.
ReplyDeletehave friend worked at WTC, watched people jump and fall right by he side. It was enough to almost loose mind and stop being kosher. She is now half mad eating pork happy jewish lady.

ReplyDeleteI had to stop watching the stories this weekend, it brought back all the heartbreak. One story that touched me were the 2 men who were the only survivors above the 86th (I think) floor. They happened to go down the one staircase that was clear.The one said he was headed toward another staircase and felt a shove on his back toward the right one. There he came across another man, trapped under some debris who was pleading for help: he stopped to help free him and they both made it out of the building with 4 mins to spare. Both had cut and bloody hands, and they shook those hands and said "blood brothers for life !"
ReplyDeleteMay they all rest in peace, those first responders who went in as the civilians came out, and all the innocent souls who perished that awful day.
I know so many people who were there that day, including me. Devastating. I remember I didn't get out of bed for days due to the depression and the loss. Yesterday was a tough day for everyone here in NYC, it doesn't feel like 10 yrs have passed.
