Michigan Is The Lip Dub Capitol Of The World
Apparently someone in Michigan must have discovered that the very large film tax credit rebates in the State apply to lip dubs or the population of that great state just loves to lip dub wherever and whenever they get the chance. After Grand Rapids Michigan just set the world's record for most people lip dubbing, Traverse City got their whole town involved in one complete with a head shaking Johnny Depp look-a-like.
I don't have sound at work, but can someone please clarify? Is "Lip Dub" what we used to call "Lip Synching"?
ReplyDeleteI want to know the same thing Rocket Queen. Love you and your awesome comments by the way! Have a great week. : )
ReplyDeleteI live in Grand Rapids, we did a "flash mob" is that the same thing as a lip dub. I have never heard of it called a lip dub.
ReplyDeletelip synch is the accepted industry term...but lip dubbing is the recent phenomena of taking your lip synch of a song and overlaying the original audio of that song for the purpose of making your own home video/spoof 'version' of a video (a 'singing' flash mob is one example of this).
ReplyDeletei defy anyone to get thru the almost 9min. of that. tl;dw. don't give up your day jobs, lovely people of michigan.
I loved it!
ReplyDeleteI watched that whole thing, and y'know what? Good for them! It clearly took a lot of planning to put together and I'm sure it did a lot to raise community spirit. It's nice to see people just putting some good energy out there, and getting away from their computers to do it.
ReplyDeleteYay for them!
My gawd I love shit like this....flash mobs, lip dubs...love love love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks bluebonnet :) Back atcha!
ReplyDeleteyou know, this just doesn't really do anything for me. good for them for putting it together, but i'll pass on watching.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Chrissy Buns, this kind of stuff irritates me. The Office did it once and it enraged me. Everyone wants to go viral. This and stuff like marines asking out celebrities has to stop.
ReplyDeleteThis vid reminded me of what a good songwriter Paul Simon is, but I had to abort mission when Van Halen (who I've always loathed) kicked in.
ReplyDeletei watched the whole thing without a problem. for a bunch of regular folks they did an awesome job. kudos traverse!
ReplyDeleteI loved it. Traverse City looks like a lovely place to visit.
ReplyDeleteLoved the Paul Simon song! It reminded me of college (in Michigan) and my sophomore year roomates... it took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw... For whatever reason, we listened to a mixture of grunge (was the early 90s) and Simon & Garfunkel.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I thought the video was a good ad for "come visit Traverse City". It really is nice this time of year. And for those who said for them not to quit their day job... this very well may be their day and only job. Michigan's kind of hard up for work. At least there is still the natural beauty of the state and film festivals to bring out the creativity in people.
Right now Michigan is in a Depression, the rest of the country has a recession in Michigan it's a Depression. Northern Michigan and the U. P. are some of the most beautiful places in the country. The Great Lakes are Mystical. Once you have been to one, you will always want to come back. The beaches on Lake Michigan are unbelievable. They're a state Treasure. Remember we are the home of Motown.
ReplyDeleteDitto what Hotchacha said. I love seeing so many citizens working to make this little film. YEAH MICHIGAN!!
ReplyDeleteWhat Majik said. I love stuff like this. I love when a community comes together. :) Kumbaya and all that jazz. It made me happy, so thanks for posting, Enty :)
ReplyDeleteI am a true Michigander, and Traverse City is amazing. We have been dealt some tough blows and I absolutely love this. Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteI have no connection to Michigan and thought this kicked arse. Initially didn't think I'd make it through the whole thing, but by the end, I was sporting the biggest, goofiest grin.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend that lives in Traverse City and I get there about once a year to visit. He lives just a couple blocks from where they filmed this. TC is a summer resort town on a bay of Lake Michigan in northwest Michigan on the lower peninsula. Some celebrity tidbits: Michael "Bowling for Columbine" Moore refurbished the movie theater at the very beginning of the clip. He has a home in the area. He started that "Traverse City Film Festival" 3 or 4 years ago and it's been very popular. Julie "Marge Simpson" Kavner lives in the area and I'm told she records her voice overs at a studio there. Madonna was spotted there a couple months ago visiting family and eating at Applebees. She was waited on by my friends' friend so I'm guessing it's true. Traverse City is known as "The Cherry Capital of the World", hence the flower display of cherries at the end of the clip, although a lot of land is starting to switch to grape growing for wine as apparently it has a very good climate for that purpose.
ReplyDeleteLooking for celebs while getting drunk on wine. What more could one ask for while on vacation?
