Jessica Alba Plans On Starving Herself
I believe that Jessica Alba has previously admitted to having issues with anorexia. So, it is surprising that she has come out so openly about how she plans to take off the baby weight after baby number two. She says that she eats 1,200 calories a day and tries to work all those 1,200 calories off. "I have a hard time with portion control, so I have 1,200 calorie meals delivered. But I also work out, so basically I'm starving. It sucks. I drink a lot of water."
In the past she has admitted to an eating disorder so why would she now come out and say she is starving herself? How does this help anyone who has an eating disorder? She has also said that she hates having any fat on her body and that she freaked out the first time she saw some.
"A lot of girls have eating disorders, and I did too. I got obsessed with it. When I went from a girl's body to a woman's body with natural fat in places, I freaked out. It makes you feel weird, like you’re not ready for that body."
Is it sad that I'm kind of glad she's at least being honest about what she does to achieve that body? So many actresses lie.
ReplyDeleteYou know what? AT LEAST SHE'S HONEST. I get so fucking tired of bony celebrities who camp out at the gym, pick at salads for dinner, and suck on ice cubes while proclaiming how they're "just naturally that way."
ReplyDeleteBeyonce is open about how she physically punishes herself, and so is Gwen Stefani. I'm *not* saying it's excusable, right, or remotely healthy, but -- again -- at least Jessica and those other women are being truthful.
I actually don't have the same hatred for Jessica Alba that so many other people do. She's a young woman aware that her beauty and body are her number one commodity -- and that's way more than most b-list starlets are willing to admit.
Ha ha. Jinx, Rocket Queen. :-)
ReplyDeleteMove over ^^, I totally agree with you both. She says it like it is. At least she's not saying the baby weight just falls off her body and she never works out.
ReplyDeleteI agree... at least she still has curves, unlike Leann Rimes, who is always tweeting about eating fatty foods.
ReplyDeleteTest
ReplyDeleteHonesty is refreshing, if scary. And bottom line, in Hollywood, if you want to work when your only assets are a pretty face and a good body, then you have to be hang on to those assets. It's just how it is. She's not exactly Oscar material. I'm actually a little proud of her for telling the truth about how she loses weight.
ReplyDeletelol exactly, Cathy.
ReplyDeleteIda - I like her honestly, but I'm still not a fan. I can't be neutral, be Sweden, when it comes to Alba. She's still stuck up her own ass in interviews (though not this one) and was downright nasty to people I know while filming Dark Angel or whatever the hell that was called that she was in up here in Van.
That's: I like her HONESTY
ReplyDeleteumm isn't she still pregnant?.. So she's starving her baby.. not really herself..
ReplyDeleteUGH! Seriously why is this woman famous? Because she has a nice tush? Who cares, tons of women in Hollywood can offer that. I swear her IQ is about the same as my shoe size. Oh but then again with such pursuits as randomly vandalizing Oklahoma with shark posters and telling people to be neutral like Sweden under her belt, I supposed we ought to stand up and give her a big round of applause. I am checking my watch...her 15 minutes was up a long time ago.
ReplyDelete@Danielle - I think she's talking about when she's getting back into shape after baby. She looks healthy pregnant, not super skinny.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with everyone. I appreciate the fact that she's admitting to sticking to a diet and not all "oh I lost it all from breast feeding! I eat whatever I want!" Please. And besides, 1,200 is not "starving" yourself, she's basically just saying she's always hungry because she's not eating whatever she wants. It doesn't mean she's doing anything unhealthy.
ReplyDeletedont like her and probably wont ever! btw all her pictures when you see her out and about are all orchestrated by her mgmt team! oops!
ReplyDeleteshe may not be ready for that body but i am ready for her career to be over-NEXT!
ReplyDelete1,200 calories a day is what many dieticians suggest for people to lose weight. 1,200 to 1,500 is actually a healthy amount. And her delivered meals are probably actually very healthy.
ReplyDeleteIs it extreme to exercise for 4 hours a day and eat that little? Yes. Is it starving herself? No. Is she admitting that she, like most of us, could easily eat more and want to eat more? Yes.
She knows what she has to do and she does it, After all she is the bread winner in that family so she needs to be in shape....
ReplyDeletei'll never forget hearing about her and Cash up here while she was filming something. she ordered a cheeseburger and so did he but when she got up to go to the bathroom, he changed the order to a salad-dressing on the side. the waitress was a friend of a friend and she said Jessica was seething.
ReplyDeletemakes you wonder how much it's her and how much it's his control?
LOL delilah me too! I don't respect her. Sure she is being honest about being stupid...1200 calories is just on the edge of what is healthy. And extreme exercise to try to work those few calories off is considered to be a sypmtom of eating disorder behaviors too. Another crappy role model out there for girls to try to emulate is all...
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone. I hate hearing celebs say that 2 weeks of breastfeeding (which I TOTALLY support) took off 40 lbs. magically.
ReplyDeleteIt's the nature of the business. Plus she's got two kids and a loser husband to support.
ReplyDeleteI didn't read it as saying she was working off all 1200 calories each day. 1200 calories, btw, is NOT starving yourself. It's what most diets suggest when you want to lose weight. I took it read that she eats her 1200 calories AND works out. It would take a hell of alot of exercise to work off 1200 calories each day and she openly admits to hating exercise.
ReplyDelete@Jamee and @Kara - I agree. For a woman her size 1,200 calories seems just about right.
ReplyDelete1200 calories is not starving yourself, I agree. Working off 1200 calories probably makes you wicked hungry, though. That's a lot of working out.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the posters mentioning that it's her job. Since we can all admit she's earning money on her looks, not deep thoughts or talent, I applaud her discipline. And delivered meals (like NutraSystem or whatever) are very well-balanced.
ReplyDelete1200 calories/day is not a crash diet for a woman her size. I'm impressed at her candor, letting us know how it's REALLY done.
BUT----If an actress mentioned starving herself literally, and/or BAD, unhealthy ways to lose weight, I would fault the magazine or site for PRINTING that, as much as an actress for saying it. People with anorexia are mentally ill---you don't quote them as role models for other girls, KWIM?
1200 calories, again is on the edge of healthy intake. 1000 cals and under daily is considered to be problematic. Sorry, but that is a razon thin margin (pun intended) to be comfortable with. Healthy is as one earlier poster mentioned 1200 to 1500 cals a day. If people really think that 1200 is a median range of healty calories to take in each day, then no wonder so many people have eating disorders. 1500 is preferred from the weight loss reading I've done, 1200 is used to try to jumpstart weight loss.
ReplyDeleteI think the key thing here is the excessive exercise, not the 1200 calories. For someone her small size, that's probably plenty while trying to lose weight. It's not bordering on anorexia on its own. However, working out that much is a bit of an obsession.
ReplyDeleteYou know though, she gets paid because of what she looks like... I don't think it's her spectacular acting that gets the $$, so just like small business owners that put in the long hours to turn a profit, she's doing what she has to for her chosen career.
I cannot stand Jessica Alba; have always felt she was incredibly overrated and conceited. That said, I give her HUGE props for being honest. The reality is that I myself have never been able to lose weight without restricting calories severely and working out like crazy. Her job is to be thin and beautiful (gag, she so isn't); at least she is doing it via diet and exercise as opposed to surgery and drugs.
ReplyDeleteStrange, in Sweden they usually tell you that 1700-2000 is a healthy, normal cal intake.
ReplyDelete1200 is ok for her size, but yes it depends on the amount of exercising. Frankly 2000 is too much for some women (depending on height etc). I'm pregnant now and struggled with a serious eating disorder for over 10 years. As someone who is already nervous about losing the baby weight and HATES the "Oh! It just dropped off! tee hee!" celebrity bull shit that's pushed on us - I too like her honesty. I think it's at least a little better than makig women feel bad wrong because they don't magically drop the weight.
ReplyDeleteshe's honest
ReplyDeleteThe whole calorie amount thing, I'm not going to comment on.
ReplyDeleteI do appreciate her honesty though. It sucks to see celebrities who are stick thin claim that they got that way "from yoga and walking my dog".
If one more dumb b*tch claims to eat pizza all day and stay skinny I'm going to kick some ass. 1,200 calories is far from starving. Being big and pregnant is tough and I can't fault her for wanting her figure back. I know there are few (very few) people who are naturally thin and struggle to keep weight on. I've starved and lost weight, braincells, and my period.
ReplyDeleteI like her honesty. 1200 calories isn't starving, but it feels that way at first because you're used to more food. Late night snacks also pack on pounds.
ReplyDeleteI'm with everyone else. Her honesty is refreshing, albeit sad. That's life.
ReplyDeletejax - That is a sad, sad story. I hate it when men control what women eat and encourage them to be stick skinny. My dad did that shit to my mom all the time. Not necessarily going behind her back to change an order, but snide comments were always expected.
Just to add to the calorie debate - everyone is different. I have only ever lost weight on 800-900 calories per day. I will remain fat for the rest of my life because I refuse to starve myself ever again.
ReplyDeleteI admire her for her honesty. The debate is an important one because there are people willing to starve themselves to be thin. I have a friend (female) who has lost 15 kgs by literally not eating. She was on holidays with us (there was a group) and hardly ate anything. She was literally shaking from the lack of nutrition, had no energy and no patience with her children. So she will wreck her health, her family, and try the patience of her friends so she can fit into smaller clothes. She is also too tired/frail to exercise, so she has lost weight but has no tone whatsoever and is looking like death warmed up. I have always been the biggest person amongst my friends, I am not jealous or I would have no friends, I am just sickened by watching my friend kill herself. I hope she stops soon, I don'e want to attend a funeral.
"I don't want to attend a funeral."
ReplyDeleteTypo
Here's a question I'm curious about: Can you lose weight by just eating crackers and walking an hour and a half every night? Or what about if you ate whatever you wanted and still walked that hour and a half each night. I'm trying to lose weight to slim my face.
ReplyDeleteI just want to say that if she is doing 1200 cals a day AND working out AND breast feeding- that IS starving herself.
ReplyDeleteSay she works out and burns 400 cals, that MINUS her dieted intake for the day would be only 800 caloriees! NOT enough and honestly just cause you are eating DOESNT mean you arent starving yourself if you eat low amounts and work out 1/3 of that amount. In addition- I think many of you are forgeting that if she does breast feed that is an additional 1000-2000 calories that are exiting her body and going to the baby. Now if you incorporated all those calories, it makes total sense why Enty would say she is admiting to creating a plan to stave herself once the baby is born.
JasonBlueEyes, please don't just eat crackers. That's unhealthy and as soon as you stop, the weight will come back plus more.
ReplyDeleteJasonBlueEyes, you cannot focus on removing fat from a certain area of your body. That's why people get liposuction but it comes back after a while even with that.
ReplyDeleteThe best advice is to go on a exercise program you can live with for the rest of your life for your overall good health, and to live with some minor imperfections. I'm sure no-one but you thinks you need to slim your face :)
I just wish more of the actresses would admit they're doing coke and heroin to stay thin. THAT'S the day I'll be happy...
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone about her honesty. I'm sick of all the models and celebs who say they can eat anything and stay thin. Sounds like she will be starving herself, but than who isn't in Hollyweird? These are not average size people.
ReplyDeleteJason, face is often drink - you can get a bit bloated from alcohol. No offence meant, it happens to me and my husband and GBFs notice that my face slims down when I'm not drinking.
ReplyDeleteLove Jessica's honesty, hate that Cash story!
Linnea,
ReplyDelete1700-2000 for the Swedes may be accurate, since Europeans are generally more active than Americans. However, I'm not convinced that most Swedes (or Europeans for that matter) actually consume that many calories in a day. I've lived in Europe and have a number of European friends. Their portions are MUCH smaller than ours, so they're automatically eating less than we do. My friends are amazed by American portions and can't eat like we do.
As for the actresses, when I used to act, I was always the fattest one at auditions, and I was 5'2 and 103 lbs. And I actually ate! It's no lie that actresses have to watch everything they eat because even a size 2 is now fat by Hollywood standards. My razor thin friend was recently told by casting director that she had to lose her tiny bit of belly fat. She's tinier than I am! And she's Ivy league trained! Very sad, since being ultra skinny doesn't make one a better actress.
On Cash and the salad-burger switch -- that's especially nervy since she's paying for it. (Quick: can *anyone* identify any employment Cash Warren has had since they were together?)
ReplyDeleteI'm re-thinking Kirstie Alley's weight issues now. Maybe her overeating was a way of seizing control of her life after having men/the industry managing every morsel she ate all these years. I realize she has an addictive personality (she had a serious coke problem 20 years ago), but it's something to consider. Marilyn Monroe, too.
ReplyDeleteJason - totally agree with lollydarling. I'm not drinking right now (it's been about a month and a half which is a LONG time for me ;)) and I've noticed a huge difference in my face...my cheekbones are back!
ReplyDeleteMarilyn Monroe wasnt fat!
ReplyDeleteJasmine -- she wasn't by our standards,, but producers and agents and the people in her life gave her endless grief about keeping her weight down.
ReplyDeleteoh yeah, forgot about that, good point Weezy
ReplyDeleteCongrats, RocketQueen! It's weird, I don't really lose weight by cutting out drink but goodness, I see the difference in photos of my face when I've been 'clean' for a while. Thank God I'm not an actress and I don't need to be careful all the time...
ReplyDeleteAnd Weezy, I totally agree re Kirstie Alley. She needs to replace the overeating with a healthier addiction... maybe Pilates...!
Seeing her working out all the time, I have always said that she knows what her career is about, which is her looks (she knows she isn't Meryl Streep), and so she is making sure she wrings every last penny out of it. Her body and looks will go, eventually, and her career will be gone, puff!, like Keyser Soze. She knows that, and is working hard to keep it going.
