The daughter who wrote these texts is fine. Many others were not. It is amazing to see that even during moments of high stress and a mother who is worried about her daughter, they still have time to bicker. The mom wants to know the daughter's travel plans for the next day even though the shooter is still firing away. The daughter replied that she really did not have time for that at the moment.

Texts Between Mom And Daughter During Norway Killings
I don't know what I was expecting when I read the texts between a mother and her daughter while the daughter's life was in danger from the gunman in Norway. I guess I expected more panic, but in the texts, there does not appear to be that much. They both seem cool and calm despite the fact there was 90 minutes of shooting. I have several friends who live in Norway and I know there are lots of readers from the country too, and even though I feel like I am a million miles from there, and had no reason to suspect my friends were on that island, I still did not feel 100% at ease until I spoke to them.
I can't imagine the horror those kids must of gone through.
ReplyDeleteI know when my mom gets extremly upset or stressed she talks about obsurd topics sometimes. A self soothing way of not dealing with what is going on.
I've been reading stories about young girls and boys who would lay down next to their dead friends and play dead in order to survive. It is just so heartbreaking and senseless.
ReplyDeleteI think the ones who jumped in the water are smart as hell, and were able to think logically in that kind of a situation. I feel really badly for those who didn't get away.
ReplyDeleteFive of this girl's best friends are dead, murdered without ever even knowing why. Unimaginable.
ReplyDeleteI would have been looking for any way out of there. The ones who jumped in the water made a good decision. Even if you die trying, it is better than just sitting and waiting to die. And even pretending to be dead was good thinking in their part if they could not get away. I am ashamed this murderer is calling himself a Christian. He is not one.
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is, he actually shot into the piles of dead people too beacuse he wanted to make sure there were no live ones in there. And yes, swimming was an option, but the water is freezing cold and they would not have lasted there for very long.
ReplyDeleteI read one woman's account of how she swam, got shot at four times and didn't even realize she was hit until she made it to a boat.
There is one story of a young man who laid down and played dead. Even when he was shot in the shoulder at close range, he did not move, and therefore, was not shot again. He lived.
ReplyDeletedevastating...Robert, you just put things in perspective. and timebob, you may be right...it could've been the mother trying (or not) to deal...i can't imagine the terror those parents must've felt for their children.
ReplyDeleteFor me, this just brings back Virginia Tech.
ReplyDeleteI am an expat Norwegian, and this was such shocking and devastating news that it still blows my mind.
ReplyDeleteThe senselessness is overwhelming, and I feel so bad for the families that are affected.
R.I.P.
My b/f is Norwegian and he had a few scary moments when he couldn't get in touch with his younger sister who lives in Oslo. He has always firmly believed that Norway is the safest place in the world to live and this has shaken him.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what those poor kids were going through. It reminds me of how the Nazis would kill thousands of people at a time as they were spread out in ditches. What a horrible situation.
ReplyDeleteI used to work for a Swedish company and the two countries have similar cultures. I expect the stress of this event is 9/11 x 10 for these people. They are not used to senseless violence like us Americans. It is heart breaking what these kids experienced.in a socialist country for one of their own to do this will have a devastating impact for years.
ReplyDeleteThis is my nightmare. Reoccuring. Or at least one of them. I can NOT fathom having to actually go through this and knowing that at any minute, you may be shot. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Oslo. Absolutely tragic. :(
