No More Butter Beer For Harry Potter
Daniel Radcliffe gave an interview to GQ and told them he is now sober. Apparently Daniel thinks he is an alcoholic or was close to being one or thinks he could have been one or just wants to stay at home and be quiet. I can't quite figure out what to make of the quote.
"I became so reliant on (alcohol) to enjoy stuff. There were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person's lifestyle that really isn't suited to me." He also says he quit drinking last August and now prefers to sit at home with his girlfriend. Does he have a girlfriend? Really? Is it that 40 year old he was pictured with a few times before or is this someone else?
I like the guy. Sue me.
ReplyDeleteI like him too. He hasn't seemed to have gotten too big of a head over HP and has broadened his horizons professionally as well. But, I've been getting a gay vibe from him...maybe because he's British. ;)
ReplyDeleteI like him as well. Saw him on "Inside the Actors Studio" and he was charming and humble. Oh, and very funny.
ReplyDelete@Jackie one favorite things about him is that it seems he could care less if people think he's gay or not.
ReplyDeleteHe may very well be, or maybe not.
Either way, he doesn't care what people are thinking about that.
Good for him. He probably wasn't an alcoholic, but recognized that he was heading in that direction. A lot of people don't drink by choice. You don't have to be addicted to give it up, or never start for that matter.
ReplyDeleteI like Dan. My little cousin did a movie with him and he was very protective of her, even though she had a pretty small part. I think he is sympathetic to young actors since he's been there. I wish I could get to NYC to see him in How to Succeed, loved his performance on the Tony Awards. Had no idea he was that short.
ReplyDeleteAs for that quote, I love it. He went through a stage where he thought that since he was the star of this mega movie franchise that he had to 'be a star', then he realized it didn't feel right and he just went back to being himself. Would be nice if a few more of our Hwood types could come to that self-realization.
He supports gay marriage, he's done service messages for the anti-bullying campaign and others, he seems like a good guy.
all on board. I like him too. Seems like a decent sort of person who's been through an unusual "star" experience and come out of it an essentially grounded person.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE him. Sounds like a wise decision for him, and his reasons sound perfect.
ReplyDeleteI'm 27, but I feel as though he's kicking my ass when it comes to who has their shit together.
ReplyDeleteI really liked his quote about there not being any shame in enjoying a quiet life---it took me way too long to figure that out. The kid's a good egg.
Gay / Straight, who cares he's adorable.
ReplyDeleteGood for him! I know a few people who have been there...you might not be an alcoholic, but you *kinda* realizes you're drinking the sweet nectar a little too often. Dialing it back for a while is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteUltimately, proof that child stars need not become a mess when they become adults. (LiLo for example?)
ReplyDeleteHe sowed a few wild oats, and now he's growing up. Good for him.
ReplyDeleteSeems pretty mature for his age and fame. Best of luck to him.
ReplyDelete@Jackie, I think a lot of that really depends not only on the childstar, but also on their family/handlers. D-Rad wants a longterm career as a charcter actor where Lilo wants the lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteSmart kid.
ReplyDeleteHe is very wise for being so young. Good for him and his parents have raised a good man. Whether he is gay or not, would not matter to me at all. And it should not to anyone else either.
ReplyDeleteVery cool. Good luck to him!
ReplyDeleteSounds like he has a good head on his shoulders. I like him and the other HP kids, too. They seem to have their acts together and are working toward having long-term careers. Good luck to them.
ReplyDeleteI was a bit surprised to hear this about him, but glad that it was something he recognized early on. I love all the Harry Potter kids and it is quite surprising that after all these years, they have remained pretty grounded.
ReplyDeleteFor all you Harry Potter fans, you should check out the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. 50 pages on the series/movies.
Good for him. Glad he didn't get sucked into the Hollywood party lifestyle that has killed so many, and ruined many more.
ReplyDeleteI see good things for him in the future - in or out of the spotlight - he'll kick ass wherever he chooses to be
ReplyDeleteJust saw him last month on Broadway---he was AMAZING. I thought my kids were going to explode from excitement. I wish Daniel Radcliffe the best. He is a very talented young man.
ReplyDeleteI think we've all been there, I certainly have. When you're in uncomfortable situations or trying to be something you're not, you drink to loosen yourself up. It's a slippery slope though. Good for him to recognize the consequences before it got out of control and realize if you aren't that person, not worth trying to be all your life. Love him.
ReplyDeleteI can understand where he's coming from. Boozing only got me pain & heartache. Now I keep it down to Halloween & New Year's. He's got my support.
ReplyDeleteI really really like what TREESAP COVERED LADY said about Daniel wanting the career and Lindsey wanting the lifestyle!
ReplyDeleteThat really sums it up, doesnt it?
I was actually very impressed with his quote (Michael K has a bit more of this) and it made me feel good that I COULD be impressed by a celebrity's character and maturity. Its refreshing to know that my beloved Harry Potter (he'll always be Harry to me) is growing up with an outstanding head on his shoulders. :)))
***BTW- I'm going to the midnight showing on July 14th and I literally have been vibrating with excitement since I bought my ticket last week!***
Count me as on board the Dan-loving train too... gay, straight, actor, non-actor, whatever, who cares. He seems like just a genuinely amazing person.
ReplyDeleteDan is a class act, he continues to amaze me with how mature and humble he is...his parents should be extremely proud of that young man!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, the older he gets the more he reminds me of Elijah Wood.

Me too, Jasmine...15 of us have tickets together, CANNOT WAIT!
