Glee Graduates
With Glee starting to slip in the ratings and the phenomenon of the show slipping, the creator, Ryan Murphy decided to shake things up by trying to get lots of people to watch the upcoming season. How? By saying a season in advance that this would be the final season for Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith. I can't believe I actually agree with Ryan Murphy about something, but it is a good idea to have people graduate and move on. It makes it more realistic about the cast being in high school, plus it saves a lot on salaries and keeps people wanting to watch the Glee Project which I actually like. I also like the fact that Lea Michele will have to try and make a living after Glee and knowing she wished that she had not made so many people mad at her when she thought she would be on Glee forever. Is anyone still watching Glee?
I AM A GLEEK. AND PROUD OF IT!
ReplyDeleteI still watch it. I'm surprised they are getting rid of those three..It will be VERY interesting to see what kind of roles they get after they leave. Especially Lea.
ReplyDeletesounds like Monteith's lack of singing/dancing talent caught up finally.
ReplyDeleteI think Lea probably only signed a 3-4 year contract but I don't see this helping a slipping show. People don generally like when there favorites leave and newbies come in.
ReplyDeleteI still watch it. I find it hilariously funny most of the time. I could totally do without Monteith...dude is wooden. I could also do without Michele - her over the top facial expressions are just.....ugh, enough.
ReplyDeleteI'll miss Colfer, but very much looking forward to a new batch of kids.
I'll be happy to see Lea go!!!
ReplyDeleteNever watched it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rose, people don't like to see characters leave and be replaced. Sometimes it works but it depends on the show and the depth of the characters. Can't they do what other shows do and have them all go to the same college where they always run into each other and still keep their high school dreams alive?
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I still watch it. I agree about Monteith. I never understand why Finn is the male lead.
Puck should always be shirtless.
I love Glee. I will miss Chris the most!
ReplyDeleteI've watched parts of a few, but never watched a full episode.
ReplyDeleteI watch it and am okay with the three of them graduating. I'd actually be more than okay with Lea dropping out of school and heading to Broadway, where she'll never be heard of again.
ReplyDeleteNew blood is good.
Apart from Brittany, Chris Colfer is the best part of the show for me. I don't know if I'd keep watching without him. Of course, a lot more is riding on whether the writing gets better this season than which actors are there. Last season was awful. (Rachel fucking Berry doesn't know that Cats has ended? Give me a fucking break.)
ReplyDeleteI used to be a huge gleek, but I've lost interest. It was the sweet little indie-type show that could, but now it's sold out and become this big, bad better-than-you show that's lost most of its charm in the process. I'll still watch it, but I don't regret missing episodes (especially ones filled with Goopy).
ReplyDeleteIn any case, it would be interesting to see what the writers do with new characters. Shows like Degrassi integrate new characters while allowing older ones to graduate, but they also have developed believable plotlines. My only hope for Glee is that they can make new characters more believable, and less over-the-top.
I wish Chris Colfer had replaced Charlie Sheen on 2 1/2 Men. Charlie dies and Chris buys the house and lets Alan and Jake live there because he is a friend/client of Evelyn Harper. Ashton's a new Charlie, Chris would have made it a new show!
ReplyDeleteI've never watched Glee on a regular basis, just bits and pieces. And Lea Michele just seems like a bratty, self-involved, delusionally entitled bitch. Moderately okay voice, but nothing else there.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen an episode and I highly doubt I'll start now.
ReplyDeleteoff topic, but on the 2 1/2 Men train - I read that Charlie's going to be killed off in a plane crash, never to return. Accurate? who can tell?
ReplyDeleteI have never watched a episode, but the thought of that mean Bitch Lea Michele as unemployed is pretty sweet. : )
ReplyDeleteI watched at the beginning, but they just never moved forward.
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY agree that Cory Monteith is an endless annoyance on that show- his squinty acting level is barely more believable and real than a loaf of soggy toast. Ugh
ReplyDeleteAnd I also agree that having people like Goopster Paltrow was a bit jumping shark for me. At least Kristin Cheonowith has a real background pertinent to the show- what are Goopster's qualifications? Oh yeah, she was in Shakespeare in Love, eye roll.
I actually was very surprised they would get rid of Chris and Lea- the two BEST singers on the show, love em or hate em, its true.
They also both have some of the best story lines and seem to out shine the other castmembers in every episode. I think there is a reason for that and I think its beyond STUPID to slash off those two while keeping the Santanas, the Pucks, and the Quinns on, who while amusing, dont really showline shit.
This dude is delusional- its like getting rid of Jim, Pam, and Dwight from The Office. Hella dumb
Lea leaving might actually improve the show because the strain on the directing and writing to let her have more of the spotlight without being obvious has made the show stilted and awkward lately.
ReplyDeleteI am so sad that Chris Colfer will be leaving and I always thought he was younger than Rachel and Finn's characters. Poor Lea. What is she going to do now? Fail miserably? YAY! ;) She got lucky with this role and will have a hard time getting any mainstream work, IMO. She still acts for the stage not the TV. Good riddance. If Glee can STOP with this obnoxious stunt casting and get back to good storylines like in Season 1 then I'll tune in after "graduation", but they half lost me last season, it just got too ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI might be minority here, but the only reason I still watch this show is Rachel. She's a great singer and entertaining. Kurt actually bugs me so I won't miss him or Cory Monteith. So if she leaves I might actually stop watching this show and it's good because it really sucks right now.
ReplyDeleteAnd oh, they are keeping Quinn, Santana and Puck? Good luck with that. Dianna Agron is cute, but her voice is not a big deal and her stories are not that interesting.
ReplyDeleteJust keep Naya. That girl is hot.
ReplyDeleteAnd stop doing Lady DooDoo episodes. Twice in one season? Barf.
ReplyDeletejust saw this post that Lea and Chris are getting a spin-off.

@car54- just read it, sounds like it could be an interesting premise, if a bit short lasting.
ReplyDeleteHowever, my FAV part is the last sentence which says "As for Cory Monteith, he'll be looking at other opportunities"
LOLOL, yeah, none that have to do with acting, singing, or dancing, am I right? :P
I'm a gleek, but not so much Team Lea. I suspect she was the first to try for a big raise and the producers decided to nip that whole thing in the bud. I suspect she's not-so-popular here in NYC (her home town.) She was rude when they were shooting here (a big nono for a homegirl) and she's just been too obvious about campaigning for "Funny Girl." (Uncool, also a big nono -- ask Anthony Wiener.)
ReplyDeleteI do understand that the actors are a little old to play high school but Ryan Murphy definitely went about this the wrong way, especially not informing Cory Monteith before making the announcement. Murphy's ego is getting bigger and bigger by the day. I think he believes the shows successful only because of him and not because people like the characters and the cast (who work really well together). I'm sure he belives by just adding new characters in season 4, the current viewers will stick around.
ReplyDeleteAnd what is the show going to do - spend most of season 3 introducing characters with the original cast doing nothing? I don't like Lea Michele, but she's great as Rachel. I don't think the character of Blaine is going to have the same affect on the Glee Club as Rachel did.
Cibele, I am on your side. I don't hate Rachel. She plays that part beautifully and she has an amazing voice. I don't care if she's a bitch in real life, I don't have to work with her. And yes, Kurt (Curt??) can be annoying. Blaine is boring, Quinn is beautiful but can't sing and again, Puck should be shirtless.
ReplyDeleteThat's the problem with setting a show in high school. Characters grow and leave.
Wait - Murphy didn't tell Monteith before making the announcement? Moron.
ReplyDelete@Mooshki - Brittany is my favorite part of the show too.
ReplyDeleteI agree w/ y'all on Corey Monteith.
I kind of got the feeling like it was a shock/surprise when Chord Overstreet got the boot, based on how he worded the news...
So, I don't totally understand. I was under the impression they were ALL supposed to graduate next year? I suppose there are somewhat believable reasons for Quinn (her pregnancy), Santana (probably doesn't do much schoolwork), Brittany (dumb as rocks) and Puck (got sent to juvie) to be held back but the fact that all of them are held back is a bit of a stretch. A little too convenient for the Glee club. And does that mean that Mercedes, Tina, Artie and Mike are all supposed to be a year younger? Because they've never given that impression before...
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I think it's a good thing. Dragging the show into "the college years" would just be stupid. The show is about a high school glee club. A normal high school glee club would go through changes every year. Now, whether they can do this successfully depends so much on the writers and producers, but I'm willing to watch and see.
Don't watch, so I don't care. I do like the idea though. I'm not a Glee fan after the way Ryan Murphy treated artists who did not want their stuff on the show. Remember the rage attack he gave the Foo Fighters?
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't understand is that Glee is a show that doesn't trade in reality....this is a show where one of the characters actually married herself, dressed up in full make-up as the Grinch to steal a Christmas tree and actually shot a cheerleader out of a cannon???? Now he wants the show to be realistic and have the kids graduate? Makes no sense to me.
