So, this future Hall Of Famer has a celebrity girlfriend, but he still shows he has heart and compassion. A while back, there was a young boy who had cancer. Prognosis was not hopeless, but not great. Being that he was just shy of being a teenager the Make A Wish Foundation granted him his wish to meet the New York Yankees. He did. It was at Yankee stadium, before a game. The Make A Wish people were amazing. He was brought onto the field while the players were warming up for the game. He was told that the players knew why he was there and they would each come over, one by one, talk for a minute or two and pose for a picture. And they did. Our player though did a lot more then that. He stayed and talked for much more then a few minutes. And it wasn't the obligatory "hang in there kid" talk. It was real talk. Joking around, talking about music, movies, baseball etc.. cheerful things.. very authentic. The boy, who has recovered now still has the picture and nothing but love for our player.
Derek Jeter
Love reading the reveals on kindnesses, Enty. Bravo, Mr. Jeter -- looks like A-Rod could take a lesson from you in how to be a decent human being.
ReplyDeletesigh.... I love Derek Jeter.
ReplyDeleteI love you Derek Jeter. You are a classy guy.
ReplyDeleteMinka Kelly would not go out with a selfish, cheap-ass lout of a "Man" Like some pathetic washed up has- beens will *Cameron Diaz.*
ReplyDeleteYes! I remember that Jeter was the popular guess for this one. Glad he revealed it.... especially with all the A-Rod is a jerk reveals. (Though really, I think we all knew he was a jerk)
ReplyDeleteBut so glad that Jeter has class.
Awwww. If he wasn't a Yankee, I'd love him. :D
ReplyDeleteThis almost makes me want to watch baseball :) Almost. Love Jeter now though!
ReplyDeleteAs I recall, DJ was the overwhelming choice for this. Hallelujah, a professional athlete at the top of his sport who isn't a massively self-absorbed jerk. A real palette cleanser after the revolting reveals about his teammate.
ReplyDeleteLOL@AMD I totally agree!!
ReplyDeleteYou made me have affection for a Yankee. I'm not sure I can ever forgive you,, Enty.
ReplyDeleteAnd I bet he pays for dinner, too :)
ReplyDeleteThis comes as NO surprise to me!
ReplyDeleteJeter is the ONLY Yankee I can stand. He's prett much the only one anyone can stand.
ReplyDelete@Momster - Have you seen the size of his house? You bet he pays for dinner.
ReplyDeleteGrrr my ovaries just trembled a bit. How sweet!!
ReplyDeleteI like the kindness reveals
ReplyDeleteDJ you are a class act. A-Rod.......
ReplyDeleteAnd to make it even better, Jeter's supposed to be coming back from the DL today... GO YANKEES!
ReplyDeleteNice guy.
ReplyDeleteKarma hopefully will pay him back in kind.

ReplyDeleteNice to read a kindness blind in the midst of all those others.
ReplyDeleteYou will meet no bigger Yankee hater than me but I will give credit where credit is do. I have always had a level of respect for Jeter that I have never understood. Until now. While I'll never root for the Yanks I will always wish Derek well. And if I ever get the chance I'll buy him a drink for being such a great guy!
ReplyDeletei think i guessed this one when it was written
ReplyDeleteDerek's sister has battled cancer. I'm not surprised by the reveal - I believe I picked him at the time.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge Sox fan and a Yankee hater - but I can't hate Jeter. Never have been able to. He has always seemed like a class act. That said, I hope the Sox kick their butt every time - but I"ll always secretly not hate Jeter.
ReplyDeleteAwesome reveal.
ReplyDeleteI don't follow sports but even *I* knew it was Jeter.
Plus he was hilarious on SNL, for a non-actor. Just thinking about the sketch where he got a perm makes me giggle.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see my love for this guy is justified. DJ always seemed like a good egg. Now if he'd just dump Minka for me. I'll happily move into "St. Jetersburg"--LOL!
ReplyDeleteWell that leaves me to comfort Minka then.
ReplyDeleteI normally don't ever comment, but I met Derek Jeter a few years back I was with my grandfather at the mall in Tampa and he was there. I was super excited to get my first designer merchandise and was in some sunglass store in the International mall. He came in with all his entourage and the sales people immediately dropped helping me to assist him. I had NO idea who he was at the time and my grandfather goes 'hey I think that's that Jeter guy'. He was wearing head to toe his merchandise, a Jordan shirt with his face on it and the Jeter shoes. Pissed off that he ruined my moment of designer bliss trying on Chanel glasses I immediately was ready to let him know how I felt. Suprisingly he told them I was first and had them help me before him. So minus the wardrobe he was super nice. Wasn't even bothered by all the people taking pics of him.
ReplyDeleteThat's right, Jason. You keep Minka company. I'll take care of Derek, hee!
ReplyDeleteThis is why we love our Jeter here in NYC. He always comes across as a respectful, good guy. Whenever there's a game at Yankee Stadium, Jeter has always been the one consistent player that always stops to sign autographs, take pics and say hello to fans for the longest amount of time.
