Blind Items Revealed

March 21, 2011

Back in the 90's this group had a couple of big hits. College radio-ish for the most part but they made some national television appearances. Have not done much lately, but they always remind me of liquor so that is good. Anyway, back when they first started touring they had something in their rider about a massage therapist. It turns out they did not actually want massages, but a good rub and tug. Unfortunately they only could ask for one back then. One of their albums even has a picture of one of their therapists in the liner notes. Later, when they could demand more, they would make sure there was one for every band member each night.

  1. Just googled and image of them...
No wonder they had to pay for it!

    Funny story all the same!

  2. I'm trying to fit in a "Hey, Jealousy" joke here but I can't see one.

  3. Their lead singer, Doug Hopkins, completed suicide several years ago. This may be why their band fell apart.

  5. They had that one minor hit in the summer of 95 that I actually kind of liked that was in that Liv Tyler movie.

Liv Tyler was very hot back then.

  7. I just googled them, their former lead singer and principle songwriter Doug Hopkins committed suicide in 1993 after they released the album of his songs. They broke up for a while but they are back together now and touring again. I remember their songs after seeing the titles, but Hey Jealousy is the only one I could have named off the the top of my head.

They so remind me of the 90s.

Although so far we've learned that musicians like pot and handjobs. Shocking, non?

  10. Found Out About You was one of my FAVE songs in high school. I feel so... disenchanted.
No, not really. Whatever they had to do, lol!

  12. FS: They kicked Doug out of the band because he was basically a hopeless drunk by then, which was understandable. What wasn't so understandable was that they then turned around and screwed him over his songwriting royalties when it was his songs that actually got airplay and made them famous, and it was after that episode that he shot himself. Notice they never had any really big hits after they ran through the last of Doug's materials...can you say "karma," kids?

  13. Whaaaaat? I was the contract person at one of the colleges they played at "back in the day" and had to be the point person who made sure the riders were taken care of. Never dealt with a "massage therapist". I'm not seeing this one Enty, sorry...

  15. Yeah, seems like after I looked at the CD liners, Gin Blossoms made sense.

I never heard about Doug Hopkins. That's sad. :(

They are STILL touring, if you can believe that.
