Another Congressman - Another Sex Scandal
56 year old Congressman, David Wu, who represents Portland, Oregon, faces some serious allegations this week and will probably be forced to resign which is a very good thing. The guy was already strange, what with his sending photos of himself in tiger costumes to staff members and the allegation he forced himself on a woman during his college years and tried to force her to have sex. Well, now come reports he had unwanted sex with an 18 year old girl. The girl, apparently the daughter of a donor and one of Wu's former high school classmates called the Congressman's office shortly after he was re-elected and complained that he had forced unwanted sex on her. She did not call the police because there were no witnesses and she did not think anyone would believe her. Well, I believe her and the newspaper The Oregonian believes her and this is serious enough where it looks like the Congressman will be forced to resign.
"unwanted sex"? Well, isn't that a darling way of phrasing it?
ReplyDeleteEnty, I understand that you're a lawyer and have to be careful with language on a daily basis, but I'm sick and tired of the media's reluctance to call a spade a spade.
If a man forces himself on a woman and makes her engage in intercourse, it's not "unwanted sex." It's fucking RAPE.
Ida, ITA. Rape is rape.
ReplyDeleteWhat is WRONG with these dopey bastards? We need a Congress 100% women - they don't pull this kind of crap.
ReplyDeleteRape is forced sex, not just unwanted sex. Unwanted sex is what I do with my husbnd when I would rather just go to sleep, but I am still agreeing to it.
ReplyDeleteThere was a story about Wu that came out earlier this year describing how his staff covered up for him just in order to keep the GOP candidate from winning office. They actually had asked him to seek psychological help, but were unwilling to publicly call for him to stop running for re-election. (http://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2011/02/rep_david_wus_staff_confronted.html)
ReplyDeleteThis latest charge just proves that we have too many people on both sides of the political aisle willing to ignore the worst characteristics of their political leaders and patrons just so they can keep power.
It's time for folks to remember that an honest Democrat is better than a dishonest Republican and an ethical Republican is better than an morally debased Democrat.
I agree, Ida, I'm wondering if Enty just kind of re-typed what was in the original piece?
ReplyDeleteAnyway. I'm wondering if this guy might also be a Furry?
Sevenmack - very well said!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSevenmack, ITA.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, that whirring sound you hear is Adams, Madison, et al spinning in their graves at what our national leadership (or lack of) has become.
The daughter of a campaign donor. That's a nice slap in the face. God, I LOATHE politicians.
ReplyDeleteThis man has had PROBLEMS for years. The problem is you can't FORCE mentally ill people to take their pills, and part of being crazy is thinking you don't need them.
ReplyDeleteThis man should have been shut down years ago, but unless he or his next of kin committed him, it's hard to do anything.
FYI to everyone. I have a good friend from college who works in Oregon politics. Oregon is even more starkly divided (liberal vs. conservative) than the rest of the country. You have total granola vs. NRA-4-life.
I would say the voters of Oregon and the Democrats in his district have a responsibility, and should have challenged him in the primary. If they really felt they couldn't intervene in his health, then make him lose fair & square. They knew that district would not vote R, and they kept sending Wu back and hoped for the best.
Wu was a very smart, very sharp man. But now he's ill. It's been obvious for a while. I don't think they should ask him to resign, I think he needs to be strapped to a stretcher immediately. I'm saying this as a mentally ill person myself. Wu needs the HOSPITAL, before he hurts anyone else.
I am sorry to anyone who is offended by this, but Who the FUCK is running our country?!? My GOD.
ReplyDeleteGood grief, 18 year olds don't have to have sex with older men when they're not in the mood. They certainly don't tell their Dads bout it and expect them to call to complain.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds more like the forced variety.
Ida, thank you for posting that. If you hadn't, I would have. Totally agree.
ReplyDeleteI'd like him to be on the bad end of an "UNWANTED" asskicking.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I fear for our country. I seriously do.
@sevenmack: If I understand you correctly, this guy was re-elected because, in the end, he's the best candidate the Democrats could come up with to win the election? THAT'S scary in itself.
ReplyDelete@lauren: I couldn't have put it better myself.
I'll bet somebody's dad will be drinking tiger's blood soon!
as others have said above - please don't diminish what this is about - unwanted sex is rape. don't minimise it or make it sound any more palatable please.
ReplyDeleteHe's trying to get away with just saying he won't run again.
ReplyDeleteYeah, right. Your ass belongs in jail.

ReplyDeleteD-I-T-T-O-!
This is actually an old story...the WW ( a local Portland weekly ) ran this story last February.. http://wweek.com/portland/article-16993-strange_wu.html
ReplyDeleteThis guy is just another douche in a long line of shady Portland political characters. Our very handsome and openly gay Mayor Sam Adams had a scandal recently where he was caught having an affair with a seventeen year old intern named Beau Breedlove. After the affair came out the intern came out with all the steamy details in a tell all and full nude spread in some porn mag. Then he continued to tour the cities sex shops ( which we have more per capita than any other city in the US ) doing signings and meet and greets!
Wu's behavior has been nothing but ridiculous yet time and time again he gets re-elected and actually is gearing to run for the next seat coming up..
Portland't motto is : Keep Portland Weird
I think its truly : Keep Portland Smutty
Ever see Portlandia? Yah...half of my friends are extras or bit players and though its a parody..it is pretty much on the money.
I love my city but its beginning to be a bit of a trendy bore..
