Steven Spielberg Had Megan Fox Fired

Despite Megan Fox saying it was her decision to quit the Transformers franchise, it turns out she was fired at the behest of Executive Producer Steven Spielberg. Megan had compared Michael Bay to Hitler in an interview and as soon as Steven heard about it he ordered Megan to be fired. So, the stories she and her rep spread about Megan quitting on her own because she was tired of them were not so true. Have you also noticed that Megan has not worked very much since all of this went down? Do you get the feeling that if you want to work in bigger movies that actually have a budget that you should not really get Steven Spielberg upset enough to fire you? I wonder how long this now not so secret double secret probation will last.

  1. I'm Team Megan on this one. Bay is a misogynistic ass, and she gets blacklisted for calling him out on it? Sure, the "Hitler" was uncalled for, but it's not exactly uncommon these days for his name to be used in hyperbole.

  2. She pissed off the wrong Jew, she will be lucky if she ever works in this town again.

  3. Just what is it with all the Hitler/Nazi stuff anyways?!?! It's like the very most hateful time in the world since the crusades and people just cannot let it go. Why would anyone want to revisit that? It's just not logical. It was a horrible time and while it should never be forgotten it shouldn't be used by fashion designers, low life bike builders and actresses with truly horrible taste in men ever for any reason.

Even if I don't entirely agree with the method, it wouldn't be the first time a producer exacted revenge on an actor for spouting off. And I'll be grateful in the long run if, like Enty indicates here, it's the beginning of the end of Megan getting featured work.

  5. she'll be back, unfortunately

  6. She's actually worked quite a bit, it's just that none of her movies have been any good. She's simply not really that great of an actress. I'm no Michael Bay fan, and judging by what Shia said about this whole mess, I kind of got where Megan was coming from. Can't stand Michael Bay.

  8. although you shouldn't cut down your boss, most people do it behind their backs or to co-workers. People in charge just seem to get a holier than thou attitude. I'm sure Michael Bay sucked.

  9. As soon as you use the Hitler/Nazi reference, I assume A: You're poorly educated and B: You're unable to form a good argument.

  10. I guess it's worth it if she sleeps better at night.

  11. _-_=_

Although I do agree with you on some level, it's now a term used by a large majority to describe a controling, horrible, unreasonable person. It's like saying someone has a Napolean complex which is used towards angry, short people.

  12. While I totally concur that Michael Bay is misogynistic and thus deserves to be called out on for it I would like to also call attention to Susan's lovely comment.

This is exactly how I feel about her Hitler reference too. And honestly Spielberg did Shindler's List. I mean common, I'm sure being that close to the Holocaust is enough for anybody to be sensitive and reactionary to some early 20 something skinny vapid starlet throwing the adjective 'Hitler' around carelessly. Ugh.

Not saying she shoulda been black balled but still.

  13. ^ Didn't you equate Tracy Morgan's rant to genocide? Isn't that almost the same thing? I'm terribly confused.

  14. Megan just suffers from Diarrhea of the Mouth and/or Poorly-Chosen Metaphor syndrome. Personally, I've got nothing against her -- but I've also never been subjected to any of her performances. But she seems harmless enough in real life. She doesn't drive around L.A. shitfaced with pockets full of cocaine, she doesn't have her own perfume, and she doesn't seem to want her own reality show. So hey, kudos from me for that.

I HAVE been unfortunate enough to see a Michael Bay flick or two -- and my, he certainly does like cleavage, laughable dialogue, and explosions! He's terrible, but she could have slyly called him for his chauvinism and unoriginality in a *way* more creative way.

The _____ = Hitler thing is so played out, it's not even inflammatory anymore. It's the kind of thing a third-grader calls his stern teacher or bitchy babysitter. It's just stupid.

  17. Is it because you know I'm not terribly confused mooshk, and am just being "that girl"?

Totally. I just figure if it's good for the goose, it's good for the gander.

  21. Spielberg is executive producer of Transformers and a WWII fanatic who has made many films that take place during that time (1941, Empire Of The Sun, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, The upcoming War Horse - Geez, even the Indiana Jones movies all took place during WWII - except for that Crystal Skull thing - let's pretend that one never happend.) And - he's JEWISH. So, uh, no wonder he fired Megan's tiny bony ass.

  22. Bay is disgusting, he went after Drew Barrymore when she directed her first film...it's as though you need to get his permission, only in that case Steven Spielberg was on her side.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Has she really been blackballed? She's been working pretty steadily, and firing Fox for a dumb comment (not to seem insensitive) seems a little much. It's not like she was trying to demean Holocaust victims.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ummm, that Didnt make me laugh Sue Ellen.
Not that I feel I have to explain anything to you but just to clarify in general, I dont think drawing similarities between the things Tracy Morgan said as far as his mentalities that can be detrimental to mainstream acceptance of stereotypes of certain marginalized groups and tying that with what I've actually gone to school and learned about the Holocaust and other genocides as far as recognizing the warning signs of what happens when you target a group of peopl. (I believe I said something about the fact that all genocides took place onto a group of people that were already scapegoated in mainstream society.)

I think making educated similarites is fucking FAR different from a vapid throw away description of somebody using the term 'Hitler'.

And Mooshki- I really dont appreciate you laughing it up with Sue Ellen over that.

  25. the thing was Megan made those comments 2 years ago promotring jennifer's body. She was hired for T3 shortly after. She even showed up in April 2010 for tests. She was fired on May 19th, 2010.

    http://www.deadline.com/2010/05/michael-bays-revenge-no-more-megan/

He didn't fire her right away. He waited 9 months later. Why, would he do that?

    There's more to this story.

    ReplyDelete
  26. My own website posted about that very odd gap of nine months. The basic time line is Hitler (not Nazi per se) comment in September 09, April 10 she was spotted on set in LA and a makeup test shot leaked. In May 10 she was fired. While I think the Hitler comment fed into the decision, it was not the final straw that led to her being fired. Something else did.

  27. maybe she's not getting any movie parts because she's a horrible actress and no amount of good looks can help her.

    ReplyDelete
  28. she does have one movie coming out this fall with Jon Hamm and she is set to co-star in the sequel to Knocked Up. Her career isn't over. Hell, She has more of a career then LL has right now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The quote that I read she likened him to Hitler (pretty stupid thing to say about your ex boss) but then also said that outside the set, he was fine, personality wise. So I don't know if that was a save or not?

I think Friends With Kids sounds good. The cast looks good.

  30. Hello Lelaina P. LoL. LOVE that name. I want a Reality Bites sequel Sooooooooo bad. Reality Bites 20 Years later. Imagine the awsomeness.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The Hitler comment had nothing to do with her firing. It was a pure business decision. She was clearly riding the last ticks of her initial fifteen minutes of fame. Her salary demands escalated and she was easily replaceable eye candy in the context of a shoot-em-up franchise.

Spielberg's religious ethnicity had nothing to do with it.

  32. I think Michael B. was just not used to women talking shit back to him, which I think was what really happened. If that was the case, good for Megan.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I find it interesting that Steven was quite happy that a female was being portrayed in a stereotypically sexist way, but as soon as she said something she was fired.
    Hypocritical much?

  34. Hi JasonBlueEyes ;)
I would LOVE a Reality Bites sequel.

  35. Eh, don't really care. But, I am intrigued by the last sentence, "...how long this now not so secret double secret probation will last."

Not so secret, double secret probation? WTH does that mean?

  36. @surfer - I believe that's a reference to the movie Animal House - still a funny movie that holds up :)

  38. I once worked in technical (computer) support services in an advertising department where the creative director got upset because our department would close the door to my office when we had a staff meeting. He called me up on the phone, accused my staff of being secretive, and told me I ran my department like a Nazi Concentration Camp. One of my staff members was Jewish and went straight to Human Resources. They made the Creative Director personally apologize to my entire staff. He choked on every single word of his apology, but he did make it. Megan Fox is not bright -- comparing anything to Hitler and/or the Nazis will land you in a heap of trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My sympathies lie towards Fox on this one. While I agree that the term, 'Hitler' is thrown around a bit carelessly these days, this sort of smacks more of the 'Good 'ol Boy' misogynist crap that Hollywood is well known for. As a newcomer and a female, she should've been down on her knees, not speaking her mind, albeit carelessly.

She should've been given the opportunity to apologize. Then again, this is coming from Bay, so I'm kinda not believing it until proven otherwise.

  41. If you really wanted to get back at an an under 30 actress who has only a few years left to make movies in Hollywood, an effective way to do that would be to tie up her schedule for nine months with her agents thinking she had a paycheck and a big gig. That little trick cost her a year of not making movies during her peak.

  42. Not so secret double secret misogyny?

I don't think Spielberg should be claiming moral high ground here given he had no problem stamping his name on the blatantly racist Transformers 2. http://www.slashfilm.com/no-one-wants-to-own-up-to-racism-in-transformers/

  43. @ Jasmine

Can you stop mentioning your education? We'd all appreciate it. We don't like that here on CDaN.

p.s. Mooshk, don't do you dare put a toe out of line, even if you find something funny.

  44. Isn't Michael Bay supposed to be a dick?

The whole hitler thing just basically 'casualizes' Hitler. He was a monster, and one of the most vile human beings to ever exist. I don't think Michael Bay deserves to be compared to him. Just call him a dick, or a control freak and people get it.

  45. What is the Yiddish for what the Irish did to Captain Boycott?

What happened to "there is no such thing as bad publicity" ?

Now it is out, (from her side?) will they kiss and make up?

Why would SS damage a franchise by dumping a bimbo?, For the H word? H was used as an agent paid by guess who, to destroy Germany and Russia and the British Empire. America blossomed! But then they also denigrate OBL who was CIA and Saddam also CIA. Trend here? Maybe Megan will invade Poland?

  46. Hitelerian is the adjective, Hitler is a Proper Noun! I know of no adverbial form.

    Moi, a pedant?

  47. Meagan is a pretty girl but a pretty much a dim bulb. Comparing Bay to Hitler shows a remarkable lack of imagination.

I think there is much more to this story than a bit of name calling.

  48. Sue Ellen-
Sorry you find the fact that I'm educated offensive. It doesnt surprise me one bit but I think lumping all of CDAN onto your bandwagon of education-haters is ridiculous and smacks of your narcissistic delusional shit-starting ways.

I will say I only mentioned my EDUCATION (oh no I said the no no word again) because you have mentioned a few times now my comment about Tracy Morgan and Genocide. Obviously you have a bee in your bonnet about my correlation but that's your concern and will not stop me from being up genocide again if so necessary. Genocide is not a bogey monster to go quietly into the closet, its a repeat offender that MUST be examined so that we may help to prevent the next one.

And I also mentioned my education again in this post because you tried to tie my comment on the Spielberg/Fox issue yet again with my Tracy/Genocide comment. My educational background, as it is, around the topic, was mentioned so as to defend myself in the comparison with my previous comment and what Megan Fox had said. It was to show that I have studied the subject and also notice I wasnt making careless throwaway comments ala Fox.

Now, I am done explaining myself to such a shit-stirrer.
To Mooshki- its cool girl, you know how Sue Ellen makes US ALL FEEL, I was pissed off for a sec but no harm done :)

  50. I guess it's only shit stirring when it's me.

Actually, when someone has an opinion or makes a statement, I like to know where their p.o.v comes from, and if that comes from education great, if it comes from experience, wonderful. I just like to make sure that if the "rules" apply to me, they apply to everyone. Cause no one likes a hypocrite. :)
