One thing I have learned about any and all MTV Awards shows is that it is better to just DVR them and come back to them because you will drive yourself insane trying to make it through without the fast forward button for the commercials and the inevitable stuff that makes you feel like you want to scream because you just cannot believe someone really is interested.
Anyway, with the exception of the Justin Timberlake groping of Mila Kunis, the only other thing I found interesting was the award given to Reese Witherspoon. After some emails and comments on Facebook, I have to say don't know whether she is pregnant. Apparently she was out buying baby stuff last week. But, I do know she can swear like a sailor when she needs to.
When she was being presented the MTV version of a lifetime achievement award, which means she has been around for more than five years, the award was presented by Patrick Dempsey, Chelsea Handler and Robert Pattinson. Robert was drunk off his ass and dropped an F bomb that made it past the censors. It basically involved Robert talking about his sexual chemistry with Reese and how it is possible to be 33% lesbian. When Reese had her chance to speak, she dropped another f bomb, but this one the censors got.

This entire 'awards' show was nothing more than a Twilight awards show. I can't believe anyone would choose Kristen Stewart as a better actress than Natalie Portman. Not that Portman cared, with her Oscar and all, but that was just pathetic.
ReplyDeleteAnd as a guy, a was miffed that Portman & Kunis didn't win Best Kiss.
The only award that was legitimately won was Emma Stone's Best Comedic Performance in Easy A. She was pure gold in that role!!!
Ok did Pattinson just rub his nose giving us all a hint that he was skiing back stage???
ReplyDeleteI just read how Reese totally called out Blake for her nudie photos in front of everyone - ha!
ReplyDelete@MontanaMarriott - Lainey had a blind about Pattinson being a cokehead last year. I think the boy is headed for rehab somewhere down the line.
Reese has been around a long time. Her critically acclaimed performance in "The Man on the Moon" was twenty years ago.
ReplyDeleteI became a Reese fan with 'The Man on the Moon' which is one of my favorite movies. I also liked, 'Election'. I had to turn the awards off after RPatz made her award about him. And also, MTV giving out movie awards is about as legitimate as they're giving out music awards - ZILCH. When you have the fans voting for this stuff, you shouldn't be surprised or upset that something like, 'Twilight' walks off with all the awards. MTV is a freakin' joke anymore. Actually, they've been a joke for a long time now. But still, dummy me tuned in anyway, and for too long at that.
ReplyDeleteOh, as always, I apologize for the grammar and the 'they're'/'their' errors. :(
ReplyDeleteI get the feeling Reese doesn't like Robert Patterson.
ReplyDeleteOH, and dude was totally on something.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED her in Man on the Moon. Ditto Election. I'm sad that Legally Blonde seems to have opened a gateway of mediocrity for this woman, since she really is a skilled actress. She's settling for easy scripts, IMO.
ReplyDeleteOkay, she kicked ass in Walk the Line, but I am SO TIRED of her doing all those crappy, banal rom-coms.
I wish Reese would make a sequel to Freeway. Vanessa Lutz was THE greatest performance of her life, truly.
Real awards shows are shown live in all time zones. I only watched up to the Harry Potter preview, then I stopped paying attention. None of this was important, it was just an excuse to party.
ReplyDeleteThat HP clip was all tease and not much new. The only thing added from the trailer was Hagrad saying "no!" Glad I didn't try to watch that crap and caught the clip this morning.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of HP, only about 6 weeks out from the final. Can't wait.
Didn't watch it because MTV is about as relevant to movies as I am to neurosurgery (and from what I've read it was basically just a Twilight Appreciation Night, ugh) but I gotta say I've always loved Reese. She's a good actress and she seems genuine, not a phony philanthropist like most other actors.
ReplyDeleteChelsea and Reese are friends? I would not have thunk it. Unless Chelsea thinks that anyone who comes on her show is a friend??
ReplyDeleteLegally Blonde is a guilty pleasure that I've watched on cable more times than I care to admit, however I do draw the line at watching LB 2. My favorite Reese performance is in "Freeway" (which also features Brooke Shields kind of playing herself). I had the movie on VHS until I was able to find a DVD copy in the $5 Wal-Mart bins. BEST FIND EVER, after my $5 copy of "Master and Commander".

ReplyDeleteWhy do I *always* forget that Brooke Shields is in Freeway?! Talk about HER best role. Waaay better than Suddenly Susan, at least. And Kiefer Sutherland is SOOOOOO effectively creepy. Him in that car with Vanessa = nightmares like whoa.
ReplyDeleteThat movie is a GOLDMINE of amazing lines.
"My dick may not function, but I have not lost my smile!"
I watched about 10 minutes of this mess. Usually, I find myself eerily mesmerized by stupid awards shows but this one just didn't stick.
ReplyDeleteMan on the moon was a fantastic movie. If you can watch it and not cry, you are made of steel. Love Reese, she keeps things real for her kids and does not take herself too seriously.

ReplyDeletere: Reese Witherspoon. I agree with everything you all have said above and I would also like to add "Pleasantville" and "American Psycho" as two other interesting (and completely different) performances. So what we're trying to say, Enty, is that in spite of Reese's relative youth she has produced an admirable body of work in her time.

ReplyDelete@ Mango - I watched "Freeway" just last month after hearing about how awesome it was for 15 years. And yep - it was Awesome. I loved Reese in it.
ReplyDeleteI want a sequel made.
I guess the "MTV" in the MTV Movie Awards stands for "Mostly Twilight Viewers."
ReplyDeleteSomeone please explain to me why Rob Pattinson is supposed to be good looking? Honestly that boy is FUG.

ReplyDeleteI just can't wait for the day the Twilight franchise is over and Hollywood stops returning their calls or greenlighting their dumb vanity movies.
ReplyDeleteCome on 2012!
Oh, Legally Blonde is my guilty pleasure too. *blushes*
ReplyDeleteI thought RP was cute in Harry Potter, but they say he smells. So that sucked the cute out of him to me.
I never cared for Reese, but I liked her speech. I guess it's not only a dis to reality stars and people like K. Kardashian and Blake Lively, but I take it as criticism to the industry too. The fame hungry people only exist because there is an industry that is avid to find the next biggest porn star turned reality star. I don't know if I made myself clear. Language is a big barrier sometimes.
Only someone is barely turned 35 yrs old could get a lifetime acheivement award from MTV
ReplyDeleteEye Roll
* who is
ReplyDelete♥ to Ida B., Mango, JasonBlueEyes, and everyone else on other threads who brought up Reese in Freeway. One of my fave movies of all time and she was great in it!
ReplyDeleteI guess it takes something like this to remind myself that I do appreciate Reese. I'm just not a fan of her rom coms. Also loved her in Election and American Psycho (one of the most underrated films ever, imo).
@Ida -
ReplyDelete"Okay, she kicked ass in Walk the Line"
She was a HORRIBLE June Carter.
I don't like Reese. Not because I don't like her body of work...or her actual body...there's just something about her that screams "I Am The Antichrist".
Actually I get the impression that Reese likes Robert quite a bit. She was very touchy-feely during the WFE press tour.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the whole thing yet but I did see this part. I thought her speech was good, but my husband and my friend watching both thought Reese seemed drunk??
ReplyDelete@Mango - She is friends with Chelsea. They did a movie together.
I'd say the only good thing the MTV Movie Awards are good for are recognizing movies that were fan favorites or did well at the box office but maybe wouldn't get notice at the legit award shows.
