Gary Busey Fired

Although the firing on Celebrity Apprentice was for entertainment, the firing Gary Busey suffered this week was much more real. TMZ says Gary Busey was fired from the movie he was filming because a woman claimed Gary made inappropriate comments to her. I am sure he did. I am also sure that just about everything that comes out of Gary's mouth is inappropriate to some extent. Apparently the other cast and crew also complained about him so the production team fired him and hired someone else to re-shoot all of the scenes Gary had completed. He had already finished half of his shots so he must have really been out of control.

I think that Gary Busey tries to be Gary Busey. People expect him to be a little off so now he exaggerates that off-ness and instead of being quirky or cute, it becomes annoying.

  1. I can't hate on The Busey - you can't really expect much from someone with serious brain damage.

  2. GOD, can the rest of the freaking world PLEASE take note of this incident?!?

I know that the workplace atmosphere for women has improved dramatically in the past few decades -- PLEASE don't get me wrong -- but I was utterly shocked by how pervasive harassment still is when I graduated college and entered the workforce. I've had my ass smacked, my legs stroked, my hair pulled, and I've been called shit like "babe" and "sweetheart" by sentient men who should fucking know better -- coworkers, clientele, and employers.

I was also informed by one boss that "professional" women wear heels, hose, and skirts. To which I heartily say: FUCK a bunch of THAT.

  3. @Mooshki -- I get where you're coming from, but I don't care HOW messed-up a dude is. There's no excuse for inappropriate comments or touching, IMO. I'm glad his ass got canned.

  6. Ida, I'm not saying that he shouldn't have been fired - he should probably never have been hired in the first place - but that I don't know how responsible he is for his own behavior.

  7. Ida - It's nevah gonna change. Nevah! They will keep on until the end of time. It will happen to you forever. For some stupid reason I thought it would stop when I was 40. What an idiot I was!!

Fortunately now I make enough money so I don't ever have to hire any of them to do anything ever for me. There is that.

  8. @__-__=__ -- Oh, I'd hire those assholes, if *I* were you! I'd hire them to scrub your toilets, clean up your dog poo, weed your yard, scrub your baseboards, clean your gutters...

  9. Some people on the Apprentice were convinced that Gary was crazy like a fox and his loonytoonism was just an act. I think he'll pretty much do or say whatever he thinks he's supposed to. He even told The Donald that he'd campaign for him.

Whether it's brain damage or just schtick, it's no excuse for being a rude ass.

  10. He is responsible. And he is inappropriate and abusive as long as he thinks he can get away with it. I've worked with him. Our entire crew hated him, so much his nickname was Gary Abuse-e. This was before Celebrity Apprentice and he hadn't had a job in awhile, so when one of the producers took him aside and informed him that his behavior was unacceptable and would not be tolerated - SURPRISE - he toned it down. He was still obnoxious, but the touching stopped. (Sadly, obnoxious is acceptable in this business.)
I'm sure he mistook Celebrity Apprentice for American Idol and figured he was really hot stuff again. And so he probably didn't take any warnings seriously. Because if he could tone it down when he KNEW that he would be replaced, believe me he could have toned it down here. Brain damage is an excuse here- a way of saying boys will be boys about Gary - not the reality.

  12. Not suprised Gary has always seemed a few cookies off his Keebler quota.

  13. Remember that David Lynch movie "Lost Highway" from 14 years ago? Gary actually played a normal guy in that movie. Now, how fucked up are the other characters in your movie when Gary Busey plays the sanest one?

  14. Jason, you're making me miss my dad. He taught Film Studies, and he was the only person I ever met (in real life or on the internet) who could explain a David Lynch movie so that it made perfect sense.

  15. This guy is an asshole. He tries to cover it up by acting all crazy but alas, he's (1) not crazy, and (2) not a good actor. Buh bye.

  16. I met Busey years ago in a club on Beale Street after I'd been on stage singing w/the house band. He was gracious and polite, even kind, to me. Even so, if he was sexually harassing someone, his firing was merited. It's a shame, really, because he once was quite an interesting actor.
