Detective Testifies In Casey Anthony Trial

Can you imagine telling police officers you work in a place you don't, and then take them on a tour of your fictional work place before finally breaking down and admitting you are lying? Why the hell would Casey Anthony tell the police she worked at Universal Studios Florida, home to the Harry Potter experience. Just trying to lighten things up, and I do want to go. Anyway, the detective who took the stand on Thursday said Casey's lies were really convincing. It sounds like they were, but I don't understand why she would say what she said in the first place. I understand about the lying in regards to the nanny and Caylee being kidnapped because she had to come up with some kind of story, but what is the point of not telling the truth about where you work? Wouldn't you give it up before you even got to the fake workplace? Did she not want police to know she was a shot girl at a bar?

  1. Yeah I'm actually really confused?? I'd be too scared to straight up lie like that in an interview, let alone to police. All they have to do is make one phone call to anyone that actually works there. She is seriously just fucking up.

  2. She lied because she is a sociopath, and that's what sociopaths do: they lie. They spew untruths with the ease and regularity with which the rest of us exhale. Doesn't even have to be for any reason, they just lie.

  3. I predict we will understand once she's convicted and the trial moves into the penalty phase. Then we will learn about how Casey Anthony's brain doesn't work.

I just found out a woman I've known for 20 years is delusional and has been for years. I had no idea!!! It explains SO much. She wasn't delusional to the point of criminality, but her reality was not ours.

  4. FYI, I'm not excusing her behavior, just trying to make sense of it.

  5. I am watching this trial right now and it is simply infuriating.

They're showing the jailhouse visits and Casey is going on and on about "You don't know what it's like for me!" and "I want to be at home with the family eating chili!"

and the kicker: "I know in my heart Caylee is still alive"---even though the defense is claiming Caylee had already "accidentally" drowned by this point.

    Disgusting.

  6. Figgy has it exactly right. She believes every single lie she speaks, because at that moment it is her truth. She's baffled no one believes her.

What really makes me mad is that we (Floridians) are paying for her trial and her defense counsel and when she's found guilty and it gets to the penalty phase, they'll drag out the diminished capacity defense or some variation thereof. She'll finally admit she did it after she's found guilty.

And if she's not found guilty, God help us all - she'll murder again. She has absolutely no conscience.

  7. Definitely a sociopath.

Back to the loser I dated when I started to suspect he was "off": I called his work, they had never heard of him, I confronted him about it. He laughed at me, said he worked for their SUBSIDIARY and I had dialed the wrong number. I asked him for the correct number, which he gave to me. The next day, I called that, too, they had still never heard of him. Confronted him AGAIN, which was when he finally admitted it. Like, what the fuck?? How do you lie to THAT extent?? He GAVE me the phone number, hoping I'd buy it and not call again. These people are honestly scary.

  8. I'm following this case closely. I can't decide whether Casey accidentally gave Caylee too much chloroform to make her sleep so she could go party or if she did it on purpose because Caylee was in the way. If it was on purpose then it had the added benefit of destroying her parents because, as we all know, she was a "spiteful bitch." It was a win-win for Casey. Thoughts?

  9. Sociopath or psychopath? I know about psychopaths, and that's what I think she is. But off to google sociopaths.

    Either way, chilling.

  10. @April, she researched chlorform on her computer. So she definitely was planning something. I think she just wanted to be rid of Caylee, so she wouldn't have to keep finding ways to subdue her so she could go party. She didn't give one thought to the consequences of this action, but she never has. she has always had her parents clean up her messes and help her and she really believes that she deserves help and sympathy as you can see from the jailhouse tapes. I think she really believed that her dad and lee would admit to some sexual abuse, just so SHE could get sympathy from the jury. she doesn't give a damn about the consequences that would befall them if they admitted to some abuse, she just sees her endgame as everyone taking care of her.

The work lie is right up there with the babysitter lie, there was no babysitter. This is someone who will tell the most outrageous lies and she thinks because she is Casey, that everyone will believe them, even when they are the most convoluted and impossible scenarios.

She is so good at it, that the police brought her to Universal, so she could show them where she works, she talks her way in, past security and only when she is trapped does she finally have to admit she doesn't work there.

This woman is not crazy, she is scheming, cunning, emotionless and has an uncanny ability to get people to do what she wants them to do. A true master manipulator.

  11. Watching this trial has really done something to me, I'm so angry at this woman, she not only took her beautiful little girls life but also tortured her parents and brother by lying to them, playing on their emotions and as a final act of vengeance she dragged her father & brothers names through the mud. She is an awful human being and does not deserve their love or support.

She deserves to be executed for her crimes, she cannot be rehabilitated.

  12. enty, are you seriously looking at casey as if she's like the rest of us and can be understood that way? because clearly she's not.

sociopaths only give up their lies when cornered and sometimes not even then. that's what she is.

  13. oh, and my personal opinion about caylee's death?

she did this on purpose. she planned it. she knocked her out with chloroform and then taped her nose and mouth so she wouldn't wake up. benefit being she didn't have to struggle with her and have caylee know it was her mother who was hurting her.

she probably put on the tape and walked off for awhile until caylee was dead. that's what i think happened.

  14. "sociopath" is just the newer term for what used to be called "psychopath." Not sure why the name changed.

  15. @April, I'm watching the trial too and wondering the same thing. No doubt Casey killed her daughter, but did she mean to kill her or just knock Caylee out for a night?

I have a whole new appreciation for the torture Cindy, George and Lee went through. My heart broke for them watching those tapes. They are wrecked.

  16. casey's had 3 years to use the accident story. she was given every opportunity. it was suggested to her many times and she never said it. even after she was charged with murder, she stuck to the nanny story.

her parents found out 6 weeks ago that the nanny story was gone, and baez was going to use the 'accident' theory and throw george under the bus as her sexual predator/accomplice.

that's why cindy said she just quit looking for zanny the nanny 6 weeks ago.

this has been confirmed by jean casares. the accident thing is a brand new story---and just another one of casey's lies. she MURDERED that baby.

  17. I dated a narcissistic sociopath before. now, 30 years later, he tried to blame his lying on me and my treatment of him. He has been leading 2 lives and got caught last summer. He and Casey should hook up.

  18. Pathological liars are very very messed up people, I've been hurt by one myself, but sociopaths like Casey are entirely different league of dreck. It's a shame she didn't get the help she needed years ago, she might have been salvageable. Now she's just a murderer who deserves to spend the rest of her life in jail, where she will probably shank one or two of her inmates for having the wrong hair color or something. I hope this jury convicts her.

  19. Are sociopaths created by their environment or are they born without normal human traits?

That's what I want to know. Casey is guilty as sin, but is anyone guilty of creating Casey?

  20. I can agree with nancer's theory. I heard another one that I think is possible. She chloroformed Caylee so she would sleep in the trunk. Somehow the chloroform container spilled out and killed Caylee before Casey returned. Tape was put on prior to decomposition, not necessarily before death. Hopefully Dr. G will make this more clear.

I now think she was also going to kill the parents. Chloroform them when they're sleeping, since they work at different times, and then break their necks - hence the neck breaking search. That could be more easily done if they are chloroformed.

Lillian Glass says the parents have sold the story to Lifetime for $2m. I continue to think this kind of crazy would be more like $20m to a major motion picture outlet. I just said it was at least as crazy as Psycho, Sybil and All About Eve, if not more crazy by the time we have the whole story. Parents also both have book deals. They can't get that baby blood money soon enough!

  21. I think the current thinking is that sociopaths are born, not made. I read a book called Sociopath Next Door. It claimed some people are born without a conscience. Things like this make me believe it.

  22. @amazonblue - I agree with Margaret. I've read some stuff, and saw a fascinating episode of House last year where they were doing a brain scan of a sociopath and as she was talking, they were watching her brain and it was NOT behaving normally. She simply had no feelings and was incapable of them. Totally effing chilling. These people FAKE emotions. Agree that there's no rehabilitation for them.

  23. she's a bad seed. i do believe there is such a thing and she's a prime example.

as for the tape, i don't believe this was an accident and one reason is there was absolutely no reason to wrap duct tape around the nose and mouth (THREE TIMES) if the child was already dead. none. that was done to insure she never woke up.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @ _-_=_ (hope I did that right!) why put the tape on after she's dead? She won't get any deader. I think she meant to kill her, chloroformed her, taped everything shut before she woke up and kept her in the trunk a few days looking for a place to dump the body. On June 17th or so her cell phone was pinged in a lot of out of the way semi-deserted places that might be good places to hide a body.

Not since the OJ trial have I wanted so badly to go and beat the absolute hell out of a defendant. She is a sociopath, no doubt about it. I think my ex husband was as well. He could lie so well and be so convincing it was insane. You had to wonder if you were the one that was crazy. And charming, unbelievable. No wonder he is making $250K a year with no degree. So glad to be rid of him.

  26. That's the great irony, bluebonnet, sociopaths seem to often be financially successful, but they have to keep moving because they tend to wear out their welcome as folks around them catch on.

Have you guys noticed how Casey looks different now? In the tapes, she continually talks about emotion, but now her face looks blank. Like she doesn't know what feeling she should be feigning now. Or is she finally realizing her goose is cooked? Wonder if she just figured out this is a capital case. And her attorney is out-gunned and out-classed. Hmm...

  29. I have friends who lie to make themselves appear to be more important and/or more involved in things than they are. They also rank people on a scale of usefullness so to speak. I am pretty trusting and open, so it has taken me years to work out how to be in their lives but protect myself. I still get caught occasionally, but I find it fascinating that they think they get away with their lies. Other people know they lie, and they always seem on edge, because if anyone were to call them out on their lies, they would be gutted. Don't understand choosing to live that way.

Feral, why do you remain friends with people like that?

My cousin, who has the absolute WORST taste in women, was married to a compulsive liar. She would lie about anything and everything, no matter how big or how small. If all things were equal, she'd tell a lie rather than the truth. And if you confronted her about a lie she told, she would just look at you blankly for a minute and then carry on talking about whatever she was talking about before, as if you hadn't said anything. It was bizarre. She raised their kid to be a liar, too. I think the wife was born that way and she influenced her daughter to be the same, because while the mom would lie about everything, the daughter only really lies to benefit herself. What a pair.

  31. Enty - Where you been, boo? I have been saying this all along, which is why I convicted her in my mind from the VERY beginning. I think she told the lies to buy her more time to get rid of whatever evidence she may have had to cover it up.

The best thing for this girl is going to be for her to rot in jail, so they better give her life.

@RocketQ - I meant to say this before...I am VERY glad you are no longer with that person! :)

  32. I think the big word here is, 'sociopath'. I don't know if this girl is guilty - she probably is, but she's not the devil. She's a human being with a serious disorder and she probably doesn't deserve compassion, but I don't think she's Hitler, either.

I find it a bit grotesque reading online speculation about all this, as if these people know her, her family and exactly how she killed her daughter. Yeesh - I don't know. It kind of gives me the creeps - just as much as the case itself does.

Maybe they should bring back the gallows or the guillotine and start allowing crowds and refreshments at executions? She may or may not have done something truly horrible, but to want to do something horrible to her is wrong. After all, she's supposedly the sociopath and the people judging really believe they are decent, justice-seeking human beings. Heh. http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html

  33. I like all the "how she did it" theories... and I know she is guilty...but the piece of the puzzle for me that doesnt seem to fit, is where she DID dump the body..It wasn't even hidden....
