Sometimes I wish that every public relations person was British. You would not get a statement like this from an American police officer.
"The men had information and items that lead us to suspect that they may have intended to commit a criminal offense."
Now, why would a British police officer say this? Well, two guys were caught at Joss Stone's house in England with swords, rope and a body bag. They also had a detailed map of her house and property. The pair were spotted after they kept driving around and around the house and someone called the police.
I doubt the pair were just doing it for kicks. How do two people like this find each other? Joss Stone message board? Who the heck decides swords are the way to go on a kidnapping and murder? They seem a little awkward. But yes, it sounds like they may have intended to commit a criminal offense.

ReplyDeleteI think Joss is enormously talented, and I hope those rumors about her sleeping her way to fame are false, because the girl's voice is seriously great enough to merit her success.
I'm not a fan of her music but she was good in the Tudors. And took the whold thing in stride.

ReplyDeleteAre you kidding? If this happened in America and an American police officer said that, they'd be lambasted or hated for not being PC. They would be accused of making stuff up without having all the facts and it would be used against them in court and would help the criminals get off. So what if they were carrying a sword, body bag, etc...that doesn't prove anything.

If a bunch of men circled your home over and over in a car, and they had those items with them, wouldn't YOU want the police to pay attention? I mean, most sane people don't tote around body bags.
Gun control. They use knives there in their crimes. (And swords, apparently).
ReplyDeleteThe wording is because British law is stricter than in the US about what can be said before a trial, in case it prejudices the jury against the suspects. If they said "We arrested these men because they were going to kidnap and kill Joss Stone" (or wtte), the case would never have got to court. Remember "innocent until proven guilty."
