You know, if you are going to bribe someone, then why on earth would you record it? A group of 15 Mexican police officers, including three women have been suspended and will be fired after a video came to life of the officers telling a woman she would be released if she performed a strip tease and gave a lap dance to the police officers. Although the video was shot in March, it was just released after a news organization got a hold of it. I know it is just one video, but you know it probably happened all the time and it probably happens all the time here too. One of my very first blind items was about an actress who offered to orally service some police officers to get out of being arrested. It happens all the time. I am just glad that at least sometimes, the people are punished.
while i can appreciate that they named names...the irony, of course, being the declarations from the mayor and chief that they're cleaning up the dept...when in truth, they, being in positions of power, have traditionally allowed this sort of thing, no? not trying to pick on tijuana, i know this happens everywhere...they're just the ones that got caught.
ReplyDeleteI don't trust people who court power and authority, which means I sure as hell don't trust cops. Here, Mexico, or anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteSome of the state troopers here in VA drive Harleys and wear $500 boots -- I know this, because a peacocking pig felt the need to brag about this at a local gas station. The ones who don't drive motorcycles have fancy Dodge Chargers, and they hang out beside underpasses with the A/C blasting all day, waiting for people to go more than five miles over the speed limit. And I hate them.
I know that there are detectives out there doing good work, but where *I* live, the police seem more interested in filling monthly quotas than they are in fighting actual crime.
And here in Vancouver, well....just feel free to Google about all the police abuses that have been going on here for years. And then they investigate themselves. And are never punished. There are some good ones, I'm sure, but damn...the bad ones sure do make the whole system in Mexico and everywhere else pretty fucking awful.
ReplyDeleteThe actress didn't think to offer some movie premiere passes or a set visit first? Classy.
ReplyDeleteFirst off...Tijuana...are we really surprised and second...these are NOT Police Officers these are COPS! Police Officers uphold the law and do NOT use their power in an abusive manner as these COPS did. Police officers is a positive word used for law enforcement where COPS is a negative word...just a pet peeve of mine.
ReplyDelete@Ida - I feel the same way. Plus, the few I know in real life are total a-holes (and in one case, an abusive a-hole).
ReplyDeleteMy town's police department is being investigating on all sorts of corruption, including embezzlement, and are more recently in hot water because one of their idiot deputies arrested a Mexican immigrant on charges of cocaine for what turned out to be TORTILLA DOUGH that he was on his way to bring his family!?!?
Seattle Police are being investigated by the FBI for abuse of minorities (or majorities) and just plain being a--holes.
ReplyDeleteCan't shoot and stomp on the head of everyone that offends you.
Even if some of your bros got slaughtered in a coffee shop a few years ago.
DAMN IT. Who was the actress?!
ReplyDeleteJeri - I too live in the land of never-coming summer. It's disgusting what has been happening but then we're shocked when police are shot?
