I Want The Audio Book
I have never been a big fan of audio books, preferring instead to turn the pages myself. This allows me to skip sections and I also find it frustrating sometimes at how slow some of the audio people speak. I find this to especially be true with would be actors who think they are trying to win an Academy award instead of just reading the damn book while I drive.
This will all change though in a few months. Jaycee Dugard's book about her experience as a kidnap victim is coming out on July 12th. I can;t wait to read it. In this case though, I think I will also get the audio book because Jaycee is the one who reads it on the soundtrack. Do you know how hard that must have been for her? I am sure she had lots of help writing the book, but reading about her experiences aloud must have been heart wrenching and this is a time where I am perfectly willing to wait for as long as it takes for her to read it and won't even try to skip a page.
I never want to read it. I can understand why people do but I don't want to emotionally go there.
ReplyDeleteI don't really want to read it either. I read the book about Paul Bernardo and that was enough for me.
ReplyDeleteGood for her to tell her story. I think this is important because her daughters will have to live with the circumstances of their conception their whole lives, and Jaycee is showing them that they have NOTHING to be ashamed of by being frank about it.
ReplyDeleteJMO, I guess.
Won't read it. Good for her for confronting it for her daughters. I hope they can all move on with their lives.
ReplyDeletehow emotionally draining yet empowering that must have been. writing is hard enough but having to share your words aloud, that is so hard to do. she is an amazingly strong woman.
ReplyDeletei'm sure it was also quite therapeutic for her to read it aloud.
ReplyDeletei know if this was me, writing about what happened would help but actually talking about it would be the only way i could move past it
I for one will be purchasing this book because by doing that I will be supporting Jaycee. I lived in the general area where this was breaking news when she was first kidnapped and have followed the story ever since. I'm sure it was difficult for her to write and read it out loud but like others have said, it was probably very cathartic. I know that the more I talk about some past childhood experiences the easier it is for me.
ReplyDeleteI would buy the book or audio book to support her as well. I guarantee it will make me cry, she and her daughters just break my heart. The kidnappers deserve a slow and painful death.
ReplyDeleteThe state of Calif. gave her a $20 million settlement in July.
ReplyDeleteI feel for her, stolen and raped as a kid until she gave birth .
ReplyDeleteHow can being an actual living case of 'criminal minds (etc)' ever be overcome?
So what if she she won $20 Mil ?
No amount of money is going to make that situation "behind them, and moved on"
all of that money wiil be spent on therapy or numbing.
I'd get it to support her too, not just money, but I think she might feel some support when she sees that many people want to connect with her.
ReplyDeleteI hope for only the best for her and her family.
