The Beaver Gets 10 Minute Standing Ovation

After missing the press conference for The Beaver so he could chain smoke cigarettes while lounging around half naked is pants unbuttoned with another guy, Mel Gibson did show up at the premiere of The Beaver at Cannes and apparently the people in Cannes loved the movie so much that at its conclusion they gave it a 10 minute standing ovation. Of course, this is the same group of people that think Roman Polanski is a saint so it is all relative. I do find it interesting that Mel left Jodie out alone in the press conference to defend him and only showed up for the premiere when he could get away with just taking pictures.

  1. It's probably best if he no longer says anything, anywhere. He should invest in a dry erase board.

  2. Ah, The French....They love Jerry Lewis also.

  3. Nothing interesting about it Enty. Mel didn't show to the press conference cause he didn't want to take the heat. Sue Ellen's idea is probably the best one I've heard for Mel :)

  7. It's funny all these stories are coming out of Cannes about how great this movie is. They recently released the movie here on a sort of trial run, and it was declared the movie "bombed".

  8. What the ef is going on in this second picture? What bothers me is I can visualize him losing his temper so easily now. Never the same.

  10. Why would they give HIM a standing ovation...that should be given to Jodie, who heroically stands by him even though she knows he's turned out to be a complete maniac in his old age.

I know I want to see it as well Looserdude. I like Jodie, but with Mel I just can't do it. Maybe I will watch it on cable when it comes on. Then, I am still being true to my moral code! lol....

  13. Wow, he's become quite the curvy little bitch, hasn't he? Throw a cheap corset on him and he could be in a burlesque troupe!

  16. You can disagree with what someone said or did and be able to like his work (Fincher,a huge fan of Polanski didn't sign the petition but did the commentary in Chinatown's bluray)

  17. As a lawyer you better than anyone here should understand , that they where aplauding the movie. This wasn't about Mel the person but about Mel the actor and Jodie the director

  21. Hum .. well .. not quite sure what the hell being lawyer would have to do with this. But I - for one - can tell you that I won't see this movie because I know how contracts work.

Mel - the misogynistic, anti-semitic scumbag - is being paid for Mel's - the misogynistic, antisemitic actor - work. So .. no. Not going to do mental gynastics to make excuses for Mel or for seeing this movie. No.

You want to see it .. see it. But I will not de facto validate his bullshit by lining his pockets. Mel the actor is also Mel the sick bastard and I will no longer support him in any way. Sorry.

As for Jodie, she knew what the chances were that this movie would fail. It is not like Mel's behavior has been secret nor a thing of recent memory. She knew he had a long established rep as a scumbag. So, I shed no tears for her .. something Cyndney Bernard and I might have in common.

  22. Princess - the movie bombed in the sense that people didnt go to see it, not in the sense that those who saw it disliked it.

As far as I can tell, critics seem to really like it. That doesn't mean it will do well financially.

  23. I don't care if its wrong to say but to me Jodie Foster with her constant defense of Mel Gibson is almost like the sister of an abuser who stands by her bro blindly out of familial love.
I will never ever respect her for standing up for her friend. Not when its Mel Gibson. Her weird devotion to him just skeeves me out. Maybe its because I know people who defend and are still close to abuser's or something.
She will always be tarnished now, along with Mel, to me. You can have him as a friend even but to publically support him is wrong. He has been ostracized for a good reason- to support him is almost to infer she is okay with it. Its gross and the French are gross for supporting this movie.

  24. But Jasmine, isn't he her sperm donor? So that would be like family, right?? She made a bad choice years and years ago. Still not ever seeing the movie. Wouldn't buy it from Goodwill!
