That Was One Expensive Wisdom Tooth

Mischa Barton has been ordered to pay $95,000 in private nursing bills she incurred in 2009. For those of you who do not remember, Mischa Barton says she had wisdom tooth surgery and that resulted her being put into a psychiatric hospital. Well apparently she must have had some other medical expenses she did not discuss earlier because a company called Doctor's Choice Nursing got a judgment against Mischa for $95,000 for services they provided to her. That seems awfully pricey for just making sure she was not in pain after dental surgery. I think she must have seen the bill, freaked out, and that is how she ended up on a 5150 hold.

  1. Yeah I'd freak out too over $95k.

I have an abscess over my bottom left wisdom tooth right now. Got to spend a hot Saturday night date waiting in the emergency room for 9 hours because I couldn't find a dentist to help me on a Saturday (not even at a clinic that claimed to do emergencies the same day).

Have to admit, the pain was almost enough for me to bitch at other people waiting their turn. Good thing I had to put my tongue between my teeth so upper and lower molars wouldn't touch (very painful).

  2. the whole story sounds like bullshit to me. sounds more like she had nurses around the clock for quite some time---i doubt it had anything to do with her wisdom teeth.

  3. Misha to wisdom tooth = Charlie Sheen to hernia, i.e., publicist-created bullshit.

  5. Is anyone truly surprised her tooth story didn't hold ?

    What a moron.

  6. It costs like $200 without insurance to get your wisdom tooth removed. Makes total sense that it ended up costing a 100 grand.

  7. I once passed out cold when presented with an automotive bill, and that was only 500 bucks. Can't say I blame her.

I really wanted her to win Fug Madness, BTW.

Yeah, this was some pr bs when it was put out and now we all know for sure. How stupid do these Hollywood People think we are? Charlie Sheen is sober, so is Lindsay and all of the male moviestars are all straight? WTF ever.

  9. Rose, you're kidding, right? That was the price quoted me (IN INDIANA) in 1990 PER TOOTH.
More like $200 co-pay, maybe, but not without insurance.

Regarding Mischa---I appreciate you pointing out when celebs tell dumb lies to save face, but in this case, it's obvious she has A LOT of mental health problems, and I don't think those problems are funny.
Sure, she needs publicity, but if she wanted us to know what she was REALLY treated for, she would have told us.

  11. No, I live in CA and the I got my third wisdom tooth removed about two years ago and it was around $200 give or take $20. They already had my x-rays on file. I don't have dental insurance. That's per tooth.

  12. The bill for recent wisdom teeth removal - impacted, if that makes a difference - $2500. Health coverage covered some since they were impacted.

  13. I don't know what to tell you. I used my long time dentist for two, and then my mom's for another and it was comparable. They didn't need to be cut and it tool like 25 minutes.

Last year I ended up having to get a cap and it was $800 and they ended up having to do a root canal first and I think that was around $600-800 at my same dentist.

  14. Damn, Rose, it might be worth the price of a plane ticket to visit your dentist instead of mine.

  15. No kidding, Mooshki.
Mine were not impacted whatsoever either.
He was a young dentist, and his pressure on me felt more like a scheme to make a student loan payment than necessary extractions. At that time, however, $200 per was the 'going rate.'
In fact, I still have them and I'm fine.

  17. I had all four of mine removed (impacted, also) and I think without insurance it was between $2k-3k. Luckily at the time I was working for someone who paid my insurance 100% (thoooossse were the days).

I had MAJOR pain after my surgery & missed several days of work but, it's not like I needed round the clock care. Did she really need to hire a private nurse after that procedure?? I'd freak out over $95k too!

  18. I am so shocked, I really didn't know it was so much everywhere else. They were licensed too. ;)

  19. Sounds more like Mischa hired them for rehab purposes.

  20. How much does detox in a rehab cost?

  21. That company supplies sober companions, too. My guess, she was required to have a sober companion (at her own expense) in order for the CW to allow her to work on the quickly cancelled TV series, The Beautiful Life. That would definitely account for the bill. I doubt health insurance would pay for that type of care.

I always thought the wisdom tooth excuse was bad, more so now. But with this new information, I'm guessing that probably had to do with getting sober than her teeth.

  22. I had all four of my impacted wisdom teeth removed at the low-income student dental clinic at my local university and I still had to pay about $1000 (in 1997).

Poor Mischa-just one more reason I won't let my kids get into acting until they grow up.
