Only One More Year For 30 Rock

If you believe Alec Baldwin, and there is no reason not to, next season will be the end for 30 Rock. Alec had already said he was not going to sign again when his contract runs out next year and now he told New York Magazine that Tina Fey will also not be returning. So, that would probably spell the end of the show. I guess the rest of the cast could stay and I think it would still be pretty funny. With the exception of Tracy Morgan it is not like any of the other actors are being hounded to come work on different things.

I have thought before that Alec Baldwin has always kind of kept the show together, but in the past season or two it is like they have taken his character and made it more and more cartoon like and unbelievable. It has been a good run and a great show.

  1. I've seen about 4 minutes of the show and that was it. I continue to think that shows like 30Rock and 2 1/2 men are only considered good because everything else on network television is absolutely horrible crap. They are simply the best of the crap.

  2. Agree Jessica! I haven't been able to watch more than that either. Where are the great shows like Cheers, Taxi, Friends, Seinfeld, etc... Hollywood complains about reality tv, but gives us no reason to watch scripted shows.

  3. I love 30 Rock, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, and Alec Baldwin. It's silly fun.

  4. I loved the Reaganing episode (which centered on Jack D.) last fall.

I've kind of missed Tracy for the last few episodes. He brings a nice crazy to the show. It definitely would not be the same without Alec and Tina.

I missed the first few minutes of the reality-show episode, but it looked bad, so I didn't bother to watch it all.

There was an episode earlier this season (not written by Tina) guest-starring John Slattery that was completely awful.

  5. It's all a matter of opinion. Personally I love 30 Rock and Parks And Recreation. They both make me laugh out loud regularly.

I guess I need to get some DVD's from Netflix and catch up on this show. I have never watched it.

  7. Funny to read y'all say it, because I was gonna say I guess I should have watched it at least once, ever! I have never seen one minute of this show. Don't know why, either. I just don't watch network TV, I suppose.

  8. I've never watched 30 Rock regularly, but the few times I tuned in, Alec Baldwin chewed up that screen. He's still got it.

  9. Yes, good shows like Twin Peaks, X-Files!

  10. 30 rock is great, i will miss it.

  11. 30 Rock is amazing. It's a cartoon for adults. That's why I love it.

Thursdays are going to look very different in the fall of 2012, I'm guessing A Steve Carell-less season of The Office will mean it wil be the show's last. And now 30 is going.

For what - shit like Outsourced *shudder*

NBC sucks. I'll bet they cancel Parenthood too (a show I love.)

  12. I too am a 30 Rock fan. I think the writing is what makes it so good - especially the dialogue between Liz and Jack. Genius. Of course, Tina Fey can do no wrong in my eyes.

I love 30 Rock. Have all the seasons on DVD and have watched them thousands of times.

Trashtalker, the reality show was actually quite funny. They really mocked the whole Housewives of... schtick.

I haven't been loving it so much this year. I hate people who always say, "oh, it hasn't been good since...." but this season.... I hate that Jack is married and has a kid and I'm really getting tired of Liz Lemon being a loser. And yeah, I miss Tracy Jordan. I wouldn't mind seeing more Danny and less Kenneth.

Also, I really like Outsourced. I don't care for Todd or the Australian girl but I love the rest of the cast. Parks and Rec has really hit its stride and The Office is... well, it has its moments. I can't wait for Will Ferrell.

I don't understand why people feel compelled to comment to a post about a tv show and write, "I've never seen it."

  15. Last year 'Better Off Ted' was one of the best sitcoms I've ever seen, and no one watched it. People want dumb tv, not smart tv. :(

  16. Mooshki - I watched it!! I am mad too - that was a great show.

  17. I think 30 Rock is incredibly well-written and very funny (usually). I absolutely love the show, but it is very witty humor. It has these recurring themes that remind me a bit of how they did it with Arrested Development (my all-time favorite show). I agree with Maja - there are strokes of comedic genius in the shows writing that clearly separate it from horrific shows like 2 1/2 Men.

I have to mention that I also think Parks & Rec and to some extent Community could become on the same playing field as 30 Rock. The writing is consistently funny and intelligent. There's still some hope for the sitcom genre, in my opinion.

  18. ^ and wow, that was some horrific writing on my part. In my defense I took a Xanax about an hour ago to stave off a panic attack. I have to go hang my head in embarrassment.

  19. My husband and I love 30 Rock, but we both agree that Alec makes the show. I am glad they won't continue without him as it wouldn't be the same.
Mooshki, my husband and I loved Better Off Ted as well. The only reality show I watch is Survivor (I even got tired of The Amazing Race due to the stupidity factor).

  20. KLM- I agree!! Arrested Development is one of my favorite shows ever and I think there are a lot of similarities in the writing between that and 30 Rock. Very clever, witty writing with some pathetic characters that are super likable. I'll be sad to see the show gone.

  21. I love 30 Rock. It's so damn smart. But without Tina in the writer's room and without Baldwin, it will die a miserable death.

  22. Nikki Finke says NBC has no plans to Cancel the Show.

    http://www.deadline.com/2011/04/30-rock-chatter-no-plans-to-end-show-next-season-as-star-alec-baldwin-suggests/

    It's just Alec being Alec.

  23. Love this show. Alec is very funny.

  24. as much as i really like tina fey, i really dislike alec baldwin...for this reason i'm all sorts of meh about the show and the length of its run. i don't find it as brilliant as everyone else seems to.

  25. Arrested development was about ten times as good as 30 rock. There is just no beating it. But 3r is still good, I watch it even though this season is a little bit... I don't know, less edgy perhaps? I really liked the Oprah episode though! :)

  26. *GASPS*

You guys can hate on 30 Rock all you want, of course, but it is NOTHING like Two and a Half Men!! Nothing!! Nothing, I say!!

Personally, I haven't really cared about the show this season. I hate the new schedule almost as much as I loathe Elizabeth Banks and her HORRIBLE ACTING OH MY GOD, so I just haven't been as loyal to it.

Tina needs to get her ass back to SNL and save that sinking shitship, anyway.

  27. Moosh---I LOVED Better Off Ted. It was smart and hilarious. I loved the ep on Racial Sensitivity. It was an awesome little show and I miss it.

  28. I love 30 Rock, it's what made Adam Baldwin more appealing to me. They crack me right up!

Agreed with the Arrested Development comments. If you watch the shows back to back, you pick up on a lot of recurring gags and tiny little things that you miss when you watch it once a week.

And yeah, there's no comparison to 2 1/2 Men. You might not like 30 Rock but it's much much much better than that garbage. Hot in Cleveland is terrible like 2 1/2 Men. Everything is set up so poorly the average viewer could say the punchline before the actor.

  30. I never like Alec Baldwin in movies much but I love him in 30 Rock. If he doesn't sign again he's a fool, he'll never get such a great part ever again. He's perfect as Jack.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have never understood the appeal of Tracy Morgan. He's the worst actor and I find him not the least bit funny. Otherwise the show is okay.

  32. Thank you, Mooshki. Better Off Ted was the funniest thing on television, and ABC treated it horribly. *Sniff*

  33. Aw, I LOVED Better Off Ted too! The episode on racial sensitivity was the best, I agree. ABC just did not do that show justice, I tell ya!

  34. I liked Better Off Ted too!

Love 30 Rock. I will miss Alec's character when he leaves....l love pretty much anything Tina Fey.
