Dennis Quaid Talks About His Coke Habit
You would think that an interview with Dennis Quaid would talk about Meg Ryan and that breakup or perhaps his brother and the star whackers. Nope. Instead, Newsweek talked to Dennis Quaid and got him to open up about all his coke use from the past. Judging from the timeline in the article it sounds like Dennis was pretty much a coke head for the better part of two decades.
"My greatest mistake was being addicted to cocaine. I started after I left college and came to Los Angeles in 1974. It was very casual at first. That’s what people were doing when they were at parties. Cocaine was even in the budgets of movies, thinly disguised. It was petty cash, you know? It was supplied, basically, on movie sets because everyone was doing it. People would make deals. Instead of having a cocktail, you’d have a line."
He pretty much admits to being a big a-hole for that entire time and I can't remember off hand when he got married to Meg Ryan but it sounds like he got clean about the time they got together or shortly thereafter. I am trying to imagine Meg Ryan with her head bent over doing lines of coke and can't see it, although she must have known Dennis did.
Dennis has never commented about Randy at all. I find that very interesting. Even the Sheen's talk about crazy Charlie. As for Dennis being an asshole, I can see it.
ReplyDeleteHe just commented on Randy somewhere saying he missed his brother very much and that was all he would say. Maybe on HP there is a link. Can't remember where I was checking.
ReplyDeleteHere it is:

Sorry I don't know the link tag.
I wouldn't talk about my brother if he were having personal problems. I wouldn't talk about my ex-wife either. He might be a jerk, I don't know, but I certainly don't fault him for not talking about his family. Are you listening, MiLo?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've read, Meg demanded that Quaid get clean before she married him.
ReplyDelete@looserdude - agreed...
ReplyDeleteI actually think the article was sort of refreshing and sort of changed my opinion about him.
it's always tacky to talk about someone else's personal probs to the MEDIA. always.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the radio show?
ReplyDelete@karrots: let it go, man! just let it go...
ReplyDeleteI don't see why asking for an explanation is to much? He had no problem keeping us updated before the first show, I don't see why now would be any different..
ReplyDeleteAgree, Klondyke.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, he sure has aged well for someone who did coke for 2 decades!
Totally agree, RocketQueen; the man looks very good!
ReplyDeleteWhile you cannot picture Meg blowing rails off a Hilfiger model's abs? I suppose it doesn't mean it never happened. I think Meg's issues go way deeper than drugs or drink. As in ORGANIC mental issues maybe. I do not know her, but I met her mom during shooting of the Doors. Wow. Very unique person.
ReplyDeleteI think it'll be interesting to see - 20 years from now - all the tell-all books and memoirs about actors who are doing shit TODAY whom you'd never suspect. There's more shit happening today than any time since Studio 54 days. So it'll be shocking in the future to learn which A-list "America's Sweetheart" is hosting drug-fueled orgies today. Or the Nick tweener girl (now legal) who found sudden fame by submitting to a perverted criminal gross twisted child-molesting TV producer. Or the TV and movie actress who could top them all in her hedonistic lifestyle (brought about by her own disgusting stage momager to boot!).
Strange days indeed...
Looserdude, you are totally right. It is classier.
ReplyDeleteHe has a wonderful smile and an insane sense of humor--which I discovered while watching him on Ellen. I'm glad he didn't spend the interview talking about his ex wife.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the update on the radio show? Didn't people give money for that? What did ENTY say about it?
