BuzzFoto Blind Item

This B List actress is silently battling a serious illness that affects her work. She doesn’t want producers of her film to know that she might not be able to do her job so she’s had her publicist fake a family scandal so that she has a reason to have some time off.

  1. No idea, but I feel sorry for her to be in that situation. It's terrible she feels she must fudge her reason for missing work. I wish her the best.

  2. This seems like an inappropriate blind to me.

  3. Lindsay Lohan. She's faked all the DUI's, jewelry stealing, co-dependent douchey parents in an effort to hide--- oh forget it. I can't type that with a straight face.

Seriously though folks, there are too many B actresses and too many scandals for me to fathom this one.

  4. @T-Grape, I agree. I'll read blinds about cokeheads and philanderers all day, but the mental illness and abortion blinds make me deeply uncomfortable. I honestly don't even want to know.

  5. buzzfoto are the original vaguey mcvaguersons of BIs. boo.

heartbreaking tho, for the actresss. sounds like an MS-type illness, that goes in and out of remission. :(

How desperate must she be to think this is better than the truth? Just breaks my heart.

  7. Halle Berry for me
She again dropped a project because of custody battle

    ReplyDelete
  8. Halle's part is so small I can't believe she dropped it...it's the second one in the same film...and I thought she bullied Gabe into easing back on custody...
Also she has hit every PR event with her new boyfriend..it's not her...

  9. I'll come back and reply to this one after a bit of research.

  10. Blinds should be fun to guess.

This one's not fun. At all.

  11. Agree with Halle Berry. And I wish whoever it is well.

  12. I can see everyone's point, but I disagree. I have serious migraines that border on seizures and have to monitor my workload accordingly.

It saddens me that the industry focuses so much on perfection that medical issues cannot be factored in.

  13. I remember for years gossip that Michael J Fox was an alcoholic, and his wife, Tracy Pollen, was an overbearing control freak. Then when he came out as having Parkinson's Disease, he said in the interview that he let the stories of being a drunk and his wife being a shrew stand, since the truth, that he was ill and she was on set to help him, would make him unemployable/uninsurable.
    Poor girl.
It is sad but true in many facets of life, not just Hollywood. I think this is a helpful kind of thing to discuss, it makes people think about the issue.

  14. I have to throw my lot in with the people who think this was better left unsaid. I love blinds, but not this kind.

  15. Agree with the others. It's an insurance issue. A douchey insurance issue. Wish the best for the actress.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mari, that is exactly what I thought of.

Pwner, you got it right: blinds should be fun. This is just depressing.

  17. Typical buzzfoto. Nothing is sacred. Even private medical issues. I feel this way about Catherine Zeta-Jones being "outed" for having bi-polar 2. As long as employees- that means actors too - are behaving professionally and delivering on the job, health issues should be kept private and not interfere with employment. If a health issue interferes with work, then it's between the employer and employee to come up with a solution. However there are insurance issues that crop up with a film/tv series as it is prohibitively expensive and often disastrous to lose a major player part way through the shooting. Probably better for her to come clean. (Meanwhile, functioning active alcoholics/drug addicts still work every day they can drag their asses to the set, enabled by others to hide their problems until they can't be hidden any longer.) Whatever, my heart goes out to this actress. She's in a bad position.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I didn't know that about Michael J Fox. I watched Family Ties but I was too young to know any gossip. I love him. How sad to have to live with lies all around you.

@ Mari - That is true. So whatever this actress has is probably equally as bad. MJF was who I was thinking about earlier as well. What a horrible secret to have to keep hidden to work to provide for your family. That is just wrong and I work in the insurance industry. The Underwriters can be blood suckers at times.

  20. Foregoing a part like Halle Berry did, is not asking for Time off. So it's not Halle Berry as she is a diabetic anyway.

She is not insurable if she is ill. That's the problem. When someone else in the family has a problem, she is insurable and it's just a time factor.

But honestly, who is a B actress that can't come out and say she has cancer or Hep C or Diabetes? That is so sad.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Rose..Michael wasn't diagnosed with Parkinson's until late 1990 or 91. Family Ties ended in 89. It's true - he did admit to being a bit of a party boy in the 80's - it's in his first book. He and Woody Harrelson would get drunk together a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  22. She's thinking she might not be able to do her job, so she's lying. While it's unfortunate that she is ill, the show must go on. Other people's jobs will be affected if she isn't there. Not cool. There's not a job for the sick, and a job for the healthy; there's just 1 job. We're all expected to do our jobs and when we can't it's time to say so.

  23. Remember Dudley Moore and everyone thinking he was a drunk? And it was the brain disease he had that caused the symptoms that mimiced drunkeness. So sad.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Dudley Moore had progressive supranuclear palsy. It has parkinsonian symptoms, which is what was misinterpreted as his being drunk. It was sad.

  25. halle berry won an best actress oscar.
    therefore A-list

    ReplyDelete
  26. Dana - there have been discussions on this board before about actors and actresses who can sink below A list after winning an Oscar when enough time goes by without any substantial work. I believe Tomei, Zellwegger and Cuba Gooding Jr. would also qualify.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love Tomei.
i think her work in "the wrestler" was fine enough to keep her A-list.

I certainly agree with cuba gooding jr, though .
thanks for setting it straight :)

  28. Anonymous2:02 PM

    halle is a-list.

  29. Jason, wouldn't he have had symptoms during shooting? I didn't know he even had rumors about being an alcoholic so when did those rumors start? I wouldn't say partying is the same thing if he was doing it. I thought the posts above were saying he wasn't an alcoholic though, just that he let the rumors slide so the Parkinson didn't get out.

    Lol, I confused myself.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think Tomei is supposed to be in a new HBO series from Aaron Sorkin.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Halle has done nothing of note since Monster's Ball in 2001. Except Catwoman.
Although she did get nominated for Frankie and Alice which no one seemed to watch but me....it was really not very good and I can't figure out how she scored the nom...other than she was playing a woman with multiple personalities?
    And Dana - I like Tomei too...but A list?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well surprisingly quite a few people saw and liked Frankie and Alice, myself included. And Halle is definitely still A-list. I think she's one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood, somewhere on the list, that probably qualifies her.

And I agree, dropping out of a film altogether definitely isn't asking for time off. Time off implies that you'll come back and they'll shoot around you or with your stand in while you're gone.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Tomei redeemed herself as a stripper in The Wrestler. Tomei has 4 movies in the can on IMDB, and it is clear she has talent.

Also, You have Parkinson's symptoms for years before you are diagnosed. There is no true diagnosis until the symptoms start.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I also wonder if this actress is married too?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I would say that Monster's Ball was the exception to Halle's career.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I remember there was this video of Michael J Fox's hand shaking on the set of Spin City, and all the tabloids said he was a drug addict. Shortly after the video was shown on TV, he came out about his disease.

    ReplyDelete
  37. No one's arguing Tomei is talented, Jamie's Girl. The discussion is whether she's A-list. I say not. Halle's a bit fuzzier.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Here's what I don't understand: in order to be insured by the production, wouldn't the actress require a thorough medical exam? And wouldn't that turn up evidence of a "serious illness" that could affect her work? I'm not sure I believe this blind.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't know how any of that works Sue. Can you not be hired/work because of an illness? That would discrimination but I know people like LL can't get work. I don't know how certain illness would show up on an exam. You're tested for everything. Sometimes, a lot has to be ruled out first. If you're getting a physical for insurance purposes I don't imagine they do that.

I really don't know how the insurance & the entertainment industry works though. Very sad blind.

I think Halle is probably A- from name recognition and Marissa Tomei is probably B/B-. I wouldn't say B+.

  40. It could be something like lupus. My sister has lupus. One of the ways it shows in exacerbation is a butterfly rash across her face.

The asshats in Hollywoodland might consider this a disfigurement and not work around the B-lister.

  41. My beloved stepdad just died from progressive supranuclear palsy. And he always liked Dudley Moore so thank you Camigobu for that little tidbit. It made me smile :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Mari & Camigobu - I never heard either of those stories! So sad! :(

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think we're more likely to get this blind by trying to think of people who have battled "family scandals" recently.

That said, does BF ever change their items around just a bit? Calista Flockhart has been noticeably absent from B & S a lot this season... and a lot more than they initially said she would be... supposedly because she asked to take time off for personal/family reasons.

  44. I'm so sorry Doug.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh, I'm so sorry to to hear that. My sympathies, Doug.

  46. Terri--I suffered from migraines for years and even took Maxalt for them, which helped a little. About 1 1/2 years ago I was diagnosed by a fill-in doctor at my regular clinic with trigeminal neuralgia. It is a disorder that mimics migraines, sinus headeaches, and even TMJ. The only treatment is regular doses of Tegretol, an epilepsy drug. It is NOT epilepsy, but this particular drug works on the fifth cranial nerve which causes the disorder. I now take one pill twice a day and this has changed my life. I think it actually saved my life, because I was getting to the point that I couldn't deal with the pain. I once went out of town and forgot the pills and w/in 24 hours I was in agony. I got the doctor to call it in to a pharmacy where I was and took them and felt better w/in a few hours. You might want to try this. xxoo Gypsy

  47. Sorry Doug - that is really sad...

  48. My understanding is that actors, in lead roles at least, all have to submit to insurance medical before filming every movie and at the start of filming for another season of any series.

Andy Whitfield's cancer was found via an insurance medical exam prior to the start of filming for what was supposed to be the second season of Spartacus Blood and Sand and he was the title character.

My further understanding was that it is not necessarily that you are uninsurable per se, it would depend on the nature of the health issue and that the insurance company might be willing to cover that person but they may ask for an increased premium because of the increased risk and then it is up to the production company to decide if the actor is worth that extra cost. and of course whether or not the actor is still able to do their job in spite of their condition.

Then there are circumstances like Robert Downey Jr where the insurance companies refused any coverage until he proved himself stable, and then the issue again is whether the production company is willing to assume the liability if production is interrupted or delayed due to any health or other issues of the actor. Robert Downey Jr. again because he had friends who believed in his talent had producers who were willing to take that on for him to work for a few of his films.

Patrrick Swayze clearly had pancreatic cancer before he started filming that series he worked on before he died, so someone else must have assumed that liability. I can't imagine any insurance company covering him under those circumstances.
