Your Turn

This is all about karaoke. Writing about Snoop and singing Gin And Juice made me think about the beloved drinking activity and made me wonder if you sing karaoke and if so, what is your go to song.

  1. I love to sing, but I don't do karaoke at all. Singing in front of people feels more like torture than it does like fun.

  2. Crazy - Patsy Cline

  3. There are soooo many good karaoke songs, but my standard ones are George Michael's "Faith" and if a duet, then "Don't Gp Breakin' My Heart" by Elton John and Kiki Dee.

But I have an affinity for any Grace Slick song, too.

  4. Juice Newton - Queen of Hearts or The Bangles - Manic Monday

My friend Tina and I also use to do a mean 'Crusin' duet at The Gas Lite back in my LA days...

  5. Isn't everyone's drunken karaoke song "Total Eclipse of the Heart?" I once had the pleasure of pulling that one out of my drunk ass in Tokyo. Memories.

  6. I've never done karaoke in my life and since I'm not a drinker I don't see it happening any time soon -
But if I were to find myself behind the mike, I have two go to songs... "Crazy" by Patsy and "Sway" by Dean Martin. Both are my guaranteed singalong songs in the car.

  8. I loooove karaoke...Cher- The Shoop Shoop, but if my girl Nicky is there, then we revert to Salt n Peppa's Shoop...

  9. Haven't done karaoke for some time, but I like doing funny songs, like Bohemian Rhapsody or Push It. I also once embarrassed myself by doing Livin on a Prayer.
I once read about Bill Murray standing up and doing "Marie's the Name" (Elvis) and have decided that is an AWESOME song to do in karaoke. That's what I'm doing next.

Have never done Karaoke even though I love to sing. Don't think I could get up in front of a crowd and do it....Unless I was very drunk and just didn't give a crap. Maybe then....

  13. Johnny Cash. Always Johnny Cash.

I did a version of The Sex Pistols' Anarchy In The UK that ended with a circle pit forming in the bar. And I did a duet of Holy Diver with another guy...and we did a combo of the Dio & Killswitch Engage versions and brought the fucking HOUSE down.

  14. Just like KiKi said - Son of a Preacher Man or Miss You by the Stones.

nothing is worse than a karaoke clunker, those slow songs that no one really knows and i swear, makes your beer flatter.

  20. @leslie - HELL. FUCKING. YES. That's right up there with Rasputina's cover of Heart's Barracuda.

  21. Not kidding...my favorite is It Ain't No Fun by Snoop! My two sisters and I sang it in Okinawa and we're pretty sure the video is on youtube somewhere. Apparently three white girls from So Cal rapping is pretty funny.

  22. I can carry a tune, but never sang karaoke. Stage fright is terrible and even with liquid courage.. I know alcohol makes the voice go to hell, so I've never done it.

When I listen to others though, I like "Summer Loving" from Grease. That always gets the crowd going. I hear a lot of Spanish songs with karaoke and other than knowing "beso mi mucho", I can't sing along very well.

The Way You Look Tonight by Sinatra. My fiancee loves it when I make a fool of myself. I hold no illusions as to my vocal talent, I just really like this song. In the shower, I'm Sinatra. Everywhere else, I'm me.

  35. Sorry if this is off topic-but when I try to log on I get a white background unresponsive site. I must then click away and log on again and finally get the black background and a useable site. What is up with this?? This has been happening for the last couple of weeks.

  38. Oh, my best karaoke experience: Years ago, my bf actually showed up at MY karaoke bar with another woman! Of course i heard about it quickly.

On the next karaoke night, I went in and started to unleash my favorite "you done me wrong" songs.

Right smack dab in the middle of "Lesson in Leavin'" who should walk in but the Scuzbucket himself and the Slut du Jour!!!!! It was HILARIOUS! My friends said he shrunk down and the Slut was too proud to turn tail. Everyone gave them the cold shoulder and after I sang a couple more songs, they left. HAHAHAHAHA It was great timing!

  40. @The Nightmare Child...I am in awe. Let me know if you ever bring your show to Bend.

Let's Stay Together, Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay, and Never Been To Spain. Every time. And I most certainly do not bring the house down. Maybe out, but not down.

  41. Radio show? Happening? Your Turn: What's the biggest scam you ever fell for? Your answer: Donating money for "start-up costs for a radio show for Enty". Watch this blog disappear along with your 'donation'.

  42. I'm a part of the National Karaoke League in Austin, TX! My last performance was Whip My Hair! I wore a multi-colored ribbon wig and whipped it reaaaal good!

I am not familiar with the dealings of AM radio. Is there someone here familiar with that market?

If I am not mistaken there was a reader here who broadcasts from her home pc thru some service?. If money was an issue why not, go that route first?

I have a hard time believing that someone who is resourceful when it comes to celeb shenanigans, fails to seek help from those in media to gain a good footing.

  45. Enty: are you not going to do pictures and regular blind items on your blog anymore? If no, let us know. Most of us are getting tired of checking only to be disappointed.

  46. @chigirl -- I'm seconding that opinion. :/

  47. My 2 go to songs are "Picture" (Sheryl part of course)and "Beautiful" by Xtina

  48. I can't sing for shit, but if I am really really drunk I will do Kyle's Mom's A Big Fat Bitch by Eric Cartman from South Park. The whole bar seems to reallty get into and sings along thus no one can hear how badly I suck.

  49. I've never really cared whether Enty was a lawyer or not. There is obviously a few people writing posts under Enty banner, again don't care. The change in the site of late I do care about. Unresolved technical issues... jesus, no excuse for that.

But it stuck me with the radio show that the team behind this blog is fairly clueless about syndication. Two hour show? Cripes, that very difficult to sell. 30 minutes, much easier to syndicate.

Enty team - the blog is your anchor. Treat it well, please.

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Leslie - I love that version. :)

I've only done it once (although I did once back up dance to someone's karoke Bon Jovi). I am extremely shy, so it helped that i was with a friend, hammered and in a hole in the wall bar that I didn't care about making a fool of myself in.
We sang "Love Shack" by the B-52's.

  51. I lurve me some Karaoke. Brings out the show-fox in me. And my go to song is 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton.

Thanks for that Private. I know very little about radio. We do know that Enty has done a show out in Tenn?. Why couldn't he work with other radio hosts across the country, who wouldn't mind him being mysterious/anonymous, to get his name out there.

So a 30 min radio show is easier to syndicate? Okay.

  53. I'm a Karaoke Jockey and I still have just a handful of songs that are my 'go to'. Midnight Train to Georgia, Angel from Montgomery, Don't Stop Believing, Beautiful.

'Total Eclipse of the Heart' is definitely my go-to. My aunt and I ROCKED it at some townie bar in Northern Wisconsin, we even had the FIBS (F'n Illinois Bastards for all you non Midwesterners:) cheering us! I even drop the F bombs and the gratuitous crotch tapping or whatever the hell he does. Favorite. Karaoke. Ever.

Well that, and anything Hall & Oates.
